I love how she says "the cold never bothered me anyway" and then when she has the conversation with Anna and gets more stressed she points out that "the air's getting colder." SO IT DOES BOTHER HER. Edit 1: When Anna dances with Kristoff its with fun music and his family, vs when she dances with Hans its purely romantic and alone. I like the dynamic of Hans manipulation vs Kristoff and Anna's natural attraction to one another. Edit 2: Hans says "Her skin was ice, her hair was white." And its makes Elsa think about herself, how what she touches freezes and her white blond hair. He compares Anna's 'dead' state to how Elsa naturally exists. Edit 3: Kistoff is an ICE MAN. HE IS STRONG. In the movie, he is able to spin Anna like she's NOTHING. And yet, when he is about to go KILL Hans, a single touch from Anna stops him. And THATS on true love. Edit 4: when Anna and Elsa hug at the very end, Elsa looks to the sky and Anna looks at Elsa. Elsa hopes her parents are proud of her for fixing things with Anna, controlling her power, and for saving the kingdom, and Anna is just happy to have her sister back.

They built everyone’s character better here than in the movie tbh
@pamspray52543 жыл бұрын
I think part of it is because they have the time to expand and the other part is what live theatre brings to the table. I mean- in order to keep the show running they have to focus on the most critical elements that will stay with it - namely the music and script. Everything else can and will change. So if they beef up the script and music to drive the emotion better, it'll carry through in future shows that lack complex sets or a large number of people for the chorus. They also already had the concept thought out, so they basically took the movie, revised it, and turned it into a proper musical. In a movie, a lot of storytelling is done through the environment. It's a move that sometimes leaves characters lacking, especially since mood and environment is subjective. Combine that with nasty deadlines and crunch times and you end up with a sub-par end product that is the end-all be-all film adaptation of the story. I don't know where to end this, but I finished my thoughts.

They referenced the original story so well, too. In the original ice queen, the queen was evil and in the end was executed. The fact they added that they were going to kill her and announcing it to the people, like it would be realistically in a time period like this, is such a nice touch. Making her feel more like a minster added to the "evil" idea, rather than how in the movie it felt more like the people after her were the evil ones.

the quick change at the end is basically when a large group of people are gathered together whats likely happening as they conceal the actress playing Anna, the white costume is put together in little pieces for each person to grab a hold of, subsequently 'breaking the spell' on Anna when Elsa hugs her. Its one of my favorite quick changes in theatre because you can make it a literal part of the show and its near seamless
@dramagal193 жыл бұрын

Something that always gets me during Monster is that in the last few lines... “one thing that’s left for me to do”, “before I fade to white”, plus the moments before when she calls for her parents, it REALLY sounds like once she’d hopefully put things right, Elsa was going to be willing to kill herself to protect everyone else.

Oh damn, I never realized that. That probably wasn't the intention when the lyrics were written, but just the fact that they could be taken that way. Damn! 🤯

The creepy glowing eyes of the trolls reminds me of Film Theory's Frozen theory. MatPat pointed out how Elsa used to have total control of her power and the only reason why she accidentally hit Anna is because Anna wouldn't listen to her when they were playing. The trolls "manipulated" the royal family into thinking Elsa's power is dangerous and they have to supress it, they even scared Elsa into thinking her power is deadly. Sooooo yeah.
@dustinflowers19143 жыл бұрын
To be fair, the Hidden People only tell her that "Fear will be your enemy" and offer their assistance any time. The Royal Family specifically never takes them up on that offer and teaches their daughter to fear herself. Like, that's specifically what they said not to do.

it may be a stretch but perhaps Anna’s transformation after that hug from Elsa was the act of true love. by finally accepting and returning anna’s love, they were both released from their isolation and in elsa’s case, fear. besides, it was like elsa finishing that hug Anna had given her earlier.
@waffleauflauf4213 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. The act of true love was from them both. Anna displayed an act of true love by sacrificing herself, and Elsa reciprocated it, reversing the damage Elsa had inadvertently created. And I never thought of it as Elsa finally returning the hug Anna had tried giving her earlies. That just makes it so much better lol

UGHH ciara’s portrayal of elsa is the most REAL to me. the terror she shows of herself throughout most of the show is so palpable. and her resolution to at least TRY to fix everything in Monster hits that much harder. she still doesn’t know she can do it, but she is committed to try. her facials throughout the show make me see how much she’s hurting in a way I didn’t before, like we can SEE her inTENSE anxiety. and she’s like a young woman trying to figure it all out, and ugh somehow I related to her, which says something about how human this show made her, considering she’s a literal ice queen. (also love that she’s a woman of color!! #representationmatters)

I agree - best Elsa, and best Anna, both separately and together because we actually empathize with both of them, and they feel so incredibly real. In the film even though I enjoyed it I didn't find their characters to be particularly likeable for a myriad of reasons but these two are instantly and consistently likeable, so you root for them through thick and thin, rather than because the story calls for it. You actually are invested in them.

I love when Anna places her hands on Elsa in order to further communicate her emotions, because it speaks to *both* characters: Elsa puts her hands together so she can't even attempt to touch her sister. She also fiddles with her fingers as if trying to adjust gloves. (It also draws a connection to her misconception of safety and hiding one's self going hand in hand.) Though speaks to both characters, not just Elsa. Case in point, Anna, who is a tactile person. This is possibly due to not seeing many people and wanting to express how much it means for her, an extrovert, to be amoung people again. So going to touch Elsa is very in character for her and speaks to her urge for connection. Meanwhile, Elsa is introverted and, due to trauma, she avoids touch (and therefore connection). So her reaction for put her main magic tools (her hands) together and shy away is completely in character for her. Both women's facial expressions express the urge for connection in different tones, Elsa's tinged with pain in a morose tone while Anna's is more hopeful. The entire scene really highlights the interesting touch=connection and no touch=isolation motif. And to think I didn't like the movie Frozen, only to create a little analysis of a single scene when it's brought to stage due to the extra LAYERS.
