SAETA Flight 232 took off from Ecuador's Mariscal Sucre Airport with 59 souls on board for a short hop internal flight to the city of Cuenca. It never arrived. Seemingly having vanished into thin air, anxious relatives waited for news of their loved ones. It would turn out to be a very long wait indeed.....

Noraly is a simply wonderful person, she has a degree in geology and is full of fascinating facts about all sorts of subjects. She travels completely alone and has dealt with many tricky situations including Mexican drug cartel road blocks and the police and customs officers of most of the countries in Africa. She has rode through Iran, all the 'Stans and Russia during her many, many adventures. If she could have gotten a visa for Afghanistan she would have traveled there too but the Taliban would not give her one because she is a woman. Nothing fazes her.

It's extremely curious as to why the military leader didn't want the wreckage's discovery made public. Perhaps there was someone or something on the aircraft that was of a highly guarded secret. The fact that, according to the witnesses, the military had already been there and that the bodies had been stripped of identifications seems to suggest this. In the late 60's, it was said that the Vicount was about the safest aircraft flying at the time. Perhaps, there was magnetic interference with the compases of the two aircraft that resulted in them being off course? In any case, it seems that misdeeds took place with the first aircraft and its passengers.

This was in the days before GPS. In South America in the 70s, navigation aids were mostly NDBs. The pilots may have been flying a heading until they picked up the NDB signal maybe 50 miles out. They would then determine a heading with wind correction that would take them to the NDB. I suspect that the wind aloft was strong enough to blow them off course to Chimborazo while they were in cloud and couldn't see.

SAETA Flight 232 was still at cruise altitude of 18,000 feet as aircraft wreckage being found at 18,044 feet means the SAETA 232 never changed height as wreckage at 17,420 feet is probably the result of glacial movement or debris falling from the point of impact Looking at the map of the area, the flight must have strayed off course after reported its position at 8:27am and they crashed at 8:35am meaning with the 9 minutes between the position report and impact they got off course and never noticed

Their departure was delayed because of rain and bad weather. I think we can assume that there were storm clouds all over the region and that was a key element in cause of the crash. The pilot may have attempted to fly around significant cloud cover and crashed before he could get back on track.

I have a suggestion for a video. In 1980, a Holland America ship, with a name I cannot remember because it's Dutch, Several hundred miles off the cost of Alaska caught fire and burned to the waterline. It was full of mostly elderly American tourists; the Coast Guard would never have reached it in time. The reason everybody didn't die was there was an Exxon tanker in the vicinity which rescued the passengers. As an American who is a child at a time I don't believe anybody remembers this incident. The investigation was held in the Netherlands; and amazingly, the cruise line was not found to be in anyway at fault

It's exceptionally strange they left the bodies up there. No effort was made to reclaim them so the families could bury them. And still no answer as to Why these planes, second hand but very much safe to fly, crashed in the first place. It was broad daylight, they had good maps, radar, and there's no way they just dove into a mountain. Why wasn't there an investigation? Maybe a mechanical malfunction? It would have to be pretty severe to bring down a large aircraft like this. With the way Galo acted, and didn't tell the public, the lack of any real investigation, has me thinking there's something rotten in the state of Ecuador.

Two similar planes with two pilot errors? Sounds more like mechanical failures on pre-owned aircraft, maybe maintenance issues.

Thank you for sharing this. I have never heard about this flight before and you did an excellent presentation. God bless to all of the people who perished and their families. I hope the part about the government knowing the location and not telling anyone isn’t true. I also hope the rumor of the bodies being robbed isn’t true as well and if it is. There is a special place in hell for those who did that. Again a great presentation.

.... Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Come to Jesus Christ today Jesus Christ is only way to heaven Repent and follow him today seek his heart Jesus Christ can fill the emptiness he can fill the void Heaven and hell is real cone to the loving savior today Today is the day of salvation tomorrow might be to late come to the loving savior today John 3:16-21 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. Mark 1.15 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel. 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Hebrews 11:6 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Jesus

Very similar fate happened to a converted Lancaster bomber. Flying to Chile, it dissappeared, only to emerged many year's later, as it was spit out of a glazier. All was well till it descended into the mountain. It was flying in the jet stream, thus miscalculated it had cleared the Andes.

Given that it was a South American based airline, I'm thinking that it may have run out of fuel. I'm not a pilot but isn't 60 miles in 21 minutes rather slow? Got lost and burned through the fuel? And wouldn't this make sense given that there didn't appear to be a fire?
