Hey Josh I just wanted to let you know that you change lives. I never REALLY knew I wanted to fly until I started watching your videos a few years back. I am 9 hours in to getting my ppl and I honestly couldn't be more excited to get those 1500 hours to fly commercial. I've never really been this happy in my life and I can't help but give you a lot of the credit. Thanks again man, you do fantastic work.:)

I owned N39MG (1979 M20K turbo 231) from 1995 till 2010. We put 2000 hours on it. Here are some things we learned: - always full rich in the climb, fuel is the cheapest thing you’ll put in it - flew it at 65% power, leaned to about 1550 degrees on the turbo inlet temp, never lean of peak. We got over 2000 hours on our factory REMAN. - managed the fuel burn, take off on left tank, after 1 hour switch to right tank, 1 hour on right then back to left tank, burn down to low fuel light comes on at 8 gallons, burn 20 minutes more on left then switch to right for remainder of flight. - we started the turbo cool down in the pattern. We kept the prop speed low until we retarded the throttle. If you spin up the engine while taxing you need to restart the cool down clock. The turbo Mooney is a great with lots of speed and room to stretch out. We routinely made non-stop trips from Danbury CT to Jacksonville FL in 5 hours burning 55 gallons. Enjoy it. Regards, John

Why not just leave it on both fuel selectors? Keeping one on for an hour and then switching to the other seems unnecessary, and adds extra steps that could possibly be forgotten about.

Fantastic as usual!! When I went from a 172 to my friends '62 M20C, I would spend alot of time practicing slowing her down from cruise to the white arc, very slippery. And lots of practice with the Johnson Bar gear extension/retraction! With the pushrods, she did handle like like Ferrari! I miss her...And FFZ!

Great video Josh. Great shots skimming along the cloud tops. Even the refuelling shot with the meter ticking over put me into rhythm and mood of the scene. The whole video reminded me of previous adventures and even better ones to come.

Also, yay, learned something! When I got my constant speed prop endorsement, I was only taught to cycle the prop three times (if it was cold enough to warrant making sure the oil was flowing) and watch the drop in RPM. Going to add the "check oil leak" - "check RPM" - "check slight OP drop" to my personal procedures :) (In EASA world, a complex aircraft is something different, and we have separate endorsements for things such as a constant speed prop, glass cockpit, retractable landing gear, (turbo) charged engine etc.)

Gotta love a Mooney. One of my favourite things about the low stance is that you can actually feel the ground effect through the yoke - once you get used to that, never make a 'flat' landing again, even at unfamiliar airports or in unusual lighting/visibility.

I got my PPL in northern Minnesota. I don’t remember the runway being closed like that. Only thing that would delay us is to preheat when it was below 0. My complex endorsement was in a M20C and was a favorite to fly. Shoulder room between two grown men was tight but a sacrifice I was willing to give with the performance. Another great video.

I always wanted a new Mooney someday. When the French company bought Mooney, and sold the rights to the new 301 to Socata, and they designed and had Daher build the Tarbes-Mooney in Tarbes France, or TBM, that is now the Daher TBM 900-930, I wanted one of those. Until I learned that they cost ~$4.0M USD. Now, at 67 I want an old Mooney! LOL 8) Congrats, nice airplane!! --gary

Wants aside, don't let anyone tell you that you need a multimillion dollar new airplane. The older Mooneys fly great, there are plenty that still need pilots to fly 'em, and they're fantastic cross country planes.

"I've never seen anybody do that" - we do it in Finland every winter, unless we happen to own a pair of those fancy gloves that work with smartphones :-P And I learned to fly on frozen runways, not such a big deal over here (well, actually, for reasons beyond my control, I learned to fly over a period of two years so I did get to see clean and hot runways, clean and cold runways, runways that shone like a mirror with ice, runways with frozen ruts and ridges, runways with slush, runways with water, and everything in between; what you really wanted to avoid was landing on a runway with more than a couple cm of powdery/soft-and-wet snow) :) Loving the video, you guys seem to be enjoying yourselves despite the cool weather, and that comes through perfectly. Keep up the good work!
