I had frozen shoulder a year ago and had no idea what that was until I came across this video. The exercises in this video helped me immensely - I'm 90% improved. The exercises work! Just wanted to say thank you :D

I'm a couple months in on the freezing phase, lots of pain - doing PT the way my therapist suggested brings me to tears and my shoulder is getting worse and worse each day, more pain, less ROM after every PT workout. I suspected it wasn't right, but your video confirmed this. After 2 days of just following this video my pain is WAY better and I believe the ROM is better too. This has been so beneficial to me, thank you!

All my doctor pushed for this was injections and medication. I pushed through PT and found improvement, but so SLOW and I felt like giving up! Thank you for these additional tips and positive outcome!

MRI results show bone spur, some arthritis, lots of inflammation, small tear in labrum and frozen shoulder too. Received a cortisone shot to address the inflammation right away. Yours is the first video about FS that I wanted to watch. Thank you for all of this info. My dr showed me all the same exercises you show here, and I look forward to getting into the thawing stage soon, with persistence and patience!

I've had FS twice and last recovered two years ago. Don't know if it was a coincidence but I got FS about a year after entering menopause. Was told by PT to continue exercising shoulder to avoid recurrence but didn't listen and I got it a second time. To this day I'm still frustrated that science can't explain that "gunk," the adhesive that attaches to the joint - almost science fiction-like LOL. Thank you and I greatly appreciate your knee (cartilage, spurs and arthritis) lectures since I don't want to get knee replacement for a long time if ever.

I have experienced frozen shoulder and also am in the peri-menopause stage. It appears that many women suffer from frozen shoulder due to the fluctuations in hormones and drop in estrogen. Estrogen protects cartilage and blood flow, hence heart health, and as mentioned by the doctor it appears that also thyroid and diabetes can be factors in FS syndrome. I stumbled on this page for my horrible knee pain and happy to see a wealth of information for all my joint pain and overall health. Thank you El Paso Manual PT.

Hello Dr David, I fell down when walking my dogs nearly 4 months ago and caused an injury to my shoulder which has been troublesome, and sometimes extremely painful. I’ve tried to self diagnose and treat myself with endless painkillers and exercises. By watching your videos I’ve come to the conclusion I have frozen shoulder and am using the exercises in this video. I have a question about using the pulley please - what is the reason for shrugging the shoulder on the painful side? It’s r3ally awkward to do so I wonder if I’m doing it incorrectly and how important it is. Thank you as always for your help and advice.

What do you call a diagnosed frozen shoulder that has never become unfrozen? It’s been 10 years now, I’m now 63, so definitely post menopause probably contributed (no trauma happened). And, yes, I had surgery and injections and PT in the first 3 years. Is it too late to wish for full range of motion?

I've been going through some of your videos and they're very helpful! But, I have a question. I have a frozen shoulder and a complete rotary cuff tear with retracted tendon. So, is it ok for me to do all of these exercises for the frozen shoulder? And, then I can move on to the rotary cuff exercises? Thank you so much for sharing all of this information!

Great question @ancientpathway7160! It may actually be better to start with the rotator cuff exercises first. With frozen shoulder it is very important to avoid unnecessary stress on the frozen shoulder. Therefore, any exercise that causes pain or excessive stretching should be avoided or minimized to a point that is comfortable. I went like 80 % frozen shoulder then got 60 % of that back .. how do we know what stage we are in ?. I won't add the 2 full tears but still doin physio every 2 or 3 hrs . Also the fact you can't explain it has to be the most frustrating thing ever and some look @ you like your full of it.. appreciate Happy 2024..😊

Great question Edith! That's what the medical community has nick-named adhesive capsulitis in the shoulder. They call it "frozen shoulder" because the shoulder joint stiffens up.
