Hello, the replacement for SR10 pro is now SR12+ :) If you have a later rx for redundancy you can use Fbus on ch10, then you also have all telemetry from rx redundance. I think later firmware use ch9 now for sbus in. The later fw also has two banks of gyros 1-6 and 7-11, so important to disable second bank if you use ch for other things.
@rsl3600 Жыл бұрын
I'm a bit confused. As far as I can tell, all of the ACCESS receivers are both ACCESS and ACCST. And have been for a while. (correction, only the plus series and the RX series have dual access. So the G-RX8, RX6R, R-XSR, G-RX6, RX4R can all have either ACCST or ACCESS firmware installed. Where as the PLUS series, R10+ and the SR10+ have firmware that works with either ACCST or ACCESS, no swapping firmware needed. (note, the M+ is not part of the PLUS series)) However, I've been out of the hobby for a bit, and I missed the whole "Frsky sucks" chapter. Did they just fix this compatibility issue and I just happened to come back in at the right time? Right now Frsky seems to have a great balance between the old stuff and the new stuff. I have a new Horus X10S transmitter, but I can still easily use all my old receivers. I did decide to the change to version 2.x, I just decided to do everything at once and be done with it. So nothing I own was made obsolete. And it looks like they still make ACCST stuff, although you mentioned in a previous video that Frsky was no longer developing it. And if everything comes as both ACCESS and ACCST, then it seems like they sort of are still developing the ACCST stuff. It seems like someone could do a video on how Frsky has recovered from their perceived missteps. There are a pile of videos on how Frsky screwed up. But there is nothing on how it might be better now, probably because their "fixes" were gradual and took place incrementally. ETHOS is great, Frsky costs much less that that other big company, especially if you need a lot of channels, telemetry is easy and inexpensive. And with the new Lemon DSMP module, you can easily drive all of you DSM planes. (it's hard to beat E-Flite an HobbyZone for the UMX stuff, and you cannot really change out the receivers in those.)
@pfeerick Жыл бұрын
Darren would know, but I thought it was only the transmitters that were dual ACCESS/ACCSTv2, not the receivers.

Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to reply to this on a computer, as it's easier for larger messages and responses than on the mobile. I'll reply to each paragraph, so hopefully it all makes sense. No not quite. On 2.4GHz, ACCESS receivers historically have only worked with ACCESS transmitter module. The first lines of ACCESS receivers were the Archer series. These, up until the Archer Plus series, have been ACCESS only. There were, however, ACCST receivers that could be flashed with ACCESS firmware. These include the RX series that you mention. They can run ACCESS firmware and some can use OTA receiver options. But they are not fully ACCESS receivers which can have OTA updates. With regards to the Plus and +. They are actually two different things. There is the Archer Plus series (SR10+ and R10+ currently), which supports ACCST and ACCESS seamlessly, and some other features. There are also receivers which have a + after their name (including the R10+ and M+). The + symbol signifies that the output pins can be reconfigured. -------------------- In all honesty, the whole "FrSky sucks" thing was massively blown out of proportion, and false claims made against FrSky. One of those claims was back when ACCST v2 and ACCESS were released, that older customers were being dropped and forced to upgrade. This has been proven not to be the case. Forgetting the new Archer Plus releases; you can still buy receivers now that will work on the original X9D, without problems. The same goes for the R9 system. There has not been a point where people with older equipment could not buy compatible receivers. ACCST is no longer being updated. But with ACCST v2, the link is very stable. The new Archer Plus line does not mean that ACCST is still being developed. The version of ACCST on my X9D Plus in the video is much older than the Archer Plus series. The series would not have been planned when that firmware was released almost 2 years ago. The magic for the seamless switching is all in the receiver. I imagine it knows if it's not using ACCESS, so then switches to ACCST. -------------------- In all honesty, I don't think the people who are hating on FrSky would pay any attention to a video like that. I have fact checked people on other platforms. And when shown evidence that the claims they are making are false. The either just ignore you and post the same false claims at a later date. Or they change the subject to give another reason why "FrSky suck". Have FrSky done everything well. No. The swapping out of the high speed inverters on the Q-X7 and X10 transmitters, just to spite Crossfire was a bad decision. It only caused problems for their customers. This was remedied on the ACCESS Q-X7 and X10 Express transmitters. But it was really an unnecessary pain for their customers who had bought the earlier transmitters. FrSky did threaten to stop supplying dealers who sold Jumper and RadioMaster transmitters. But, these transmitters are direct clones of an X10 (T16 and TX16S) and Q-X7 (T12 and TX12). So were they really wrong to do this? People also forgot, or chose to ignore, that TBS did the same thing to FrSky a year or two earlier in the Crossfire Vs. R9 period. TBS claimed that FrSky cloned Crossfire. This was later reduced to be just about the Immortal T antenna, which is basically just a semi-rigid dipole. What it was really about is that R9 was being offered at a price point that Crossfire could not compete with. The stupid thing is it didn't matter at the time, as Crossfire then was far superior in terms of ease of use and features. With ACCESS, FrSky closed that gap on the 900MHz side. The TBS threat was also the reason why FrSky responded by swapping out the high speed inverters on the Q-X7 and X10 radios. But other than those two things, the other claims are largely false. - ACCST v2 getting rid of D8: False. If D8 and LR12 worked on ACCST v1 on your transmitter. They will still work on ACCST v2. That's actually why in the video I make the point of showing them ;) The new ISRM module did remove D8 and LR12 support, because it is illegal to produce new products with them on. Same as why Spektrum can no longer make anything with DSM2. - ACCST v2 only being release to encrypt the protocol and make it harder for cloners: False, it fixed a big RF issue I totally agree with the rest of that paragraph. FrSky are making some great equipment at the moment. ETHOS works well and is improving all the time. Best of all, FrSky are listening to what their customers want. There have been changes to hardware and to ETHOS that clearly demonstrate this. And all at a lower price point than the other established and high end brands like Spektrum, Futaba, and Jeti.

Thank you for this video, Darren. I just received a 10 plus receiver instead of the 10 Pro that I ordered and was wondering which is the difference between them, and seems to be clear: They sacrificed two channels (or four?) to handle redundancy and SBus in/out. The good news for me is that I don't use either, but I sure need the 10 channels. However, the price difference does not justify to loose the four extra connectors. Good thing though (not for me anyways as my old TX is an X9D flat) is for those having old X9D Plus that now can use this advanced receiver. Have a good one, D.
@MrD Жыл бұрын
You only lose a maximum of 2 outputs (not channels, you technically don’t lose any). If you want redundancy, you lose output 1. If you want to use SBUS out, you lose another output. But, what would SBUS out be for? It could be to operate multiple servos, which would save on outputs. Or it could be to an SBUS to PWM converter; which will give you channels 9-16. So it’s not all bad. For me, personally. The biggest loss is the XT30 connectors. But, I agree. I wish they had kept using the old case, had the XT30s and SBUS IN and SBUS OUT dedicated ports.

EdgeTX and OpenTX will need to update their firmware to make this happen. There was also another issue where OpenTX/EdgeTX thinks that the receiver is ACCST so can’t perform the OTA updates. FrSKY have said that they are reaching out to the developers of these firmwares. I guess there will be more luck with EdgeTX, as it’s still being actively developed.
@fdm225 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, shortly after posting I found a bug report on edgetx requesting support from the developers. To abbreviate the thread, it seems that FrSKY has no interest in supporting OpenTX/Edgetx and have rested giving out information, which is truly unfortunate. Ethos is nice, and in the future I have hopes that it can replace edgetx, but it's still missing too many features that even the ancient opentx firmware has let alone edgetx.

I don't want the knife edge and hover, I agree that's cheating and with the latest firmware there is no need for a switch for self check. So I only setup channels 9 and 10, 9 on a pot, 10 on switch SG. After flying the model I then put channel 9 onto switch SG with channel 10 and set a curve to give the output I had on the pot. I also don't want self leveling so i set a curve on channel 10 to give me a damping gyro on 2 of the 3 switch positions with the other being off. The channel 9 curve can then be adjusted to give 2 different gains, 1 for high speed flight and a higher gain for slow flight or landing.

To be honest, you really don’t lose much, if anything by switching from OpenTX to ETHOS these days. Especially from a Line of Sight flight perspective. The main developer of ETHOS is the guy who developed OpenTX. So he is basically making the system he could of he had started over with OpenTX. Version 1.5 will also bring more requested features such as instatrim. Of course, all ETHOS transmitters are also ACCESS, which has big benefits over ACCST. I will need to check what options are available on OpenTX. The channel mapping is likely an ACCESS feature. It looks like FrSky have listened though. They have started using last outputs rather than the first one.

They are already on Fw 1.0.5 and they haven't changed the S-Bus IN option :( quite annoying for people "like us" (OCDed I mean)

I did mention it. But I’m not sure if they can change that opinion, due to hardware. But they have said they would be more careful in the future.

Backwards compatible eh?....It's a bit late for that FrSky, you've alienated your once faithful customer base...Dual RX's?....niche market TBH. It's a shame really, I have a number of their giro receivers the S6R...the antennas are thin and poor quality though...Looks like they've addressed that obvious problem now with sleeve Dipoles also....🤔😳😳😏🇬🇧

I don't get this really. They always did provide receivers for the faithful customer base. You could always buy receivers for older, ACCST transmitters. That was never an issue. This new line-up is just a new range of receivers that seamlessly support both, rather than having to buy specifically for ACCST or ACCESS. Though, a lot of ACCST receivers could also be flashed with ACCESS firmware.

@@MrD I love how people bitch and moan about nothing. They act like they were harmed emotionally in some way. They should of been flying RC in the mid 70's, 80's and 90's. No bitching, no internet and you flew what you could buy. We were grateful for anything new that we saw in the next RC Model magazine. Folks don't know how lucky they have it today. So many choices, reliability and loads of fun!
