I finally made the jump from a Spektrum DX6i to FrSky and bought my QX7 from Gearbest because they sent you the QX7s. Thumbs up Gearbest. Quick delivery and £74 in a deal! Unbelievable value! Hooked a D8R-XP up to an Omnibus and now have a fully functioning vario thanks to the telemetry. Amazing!

Thank god and you for these teardowns. Today's hobby is missing out on these. I am trying to make a car roof top radio system so that I can hide inside the car while doing a longer range droning. I need to use a extension ribbon cable between the RF module and the TX base band electronics. Most people don't know how that is done. Only teardowns can tell it all.

Thanks :) Few comments: - Soft switch is AWESOME! I've lost a model before by accidentally switching off my x9d thinking I was trimming the opposite side.. - The styling for (in white or black) me is way better than the old gaudy fake toy metal / chrome design of the x9d! Plastics are also of a much better quality.

Any chance we can get a quick RF check? Are we leaking? Are we spread spectrum-ing like we should? Range? When they went cheap, what did we give up?
@jdev_fr7 жыл бұрын
I've got a Qx7 and it's really great. They gave up on a few switches and sliders, the battery option can be made but by default it take 6 AA and no charging via radio option (personnaly i don't care), also the screen resolution is a bit lower than the x9d but for what I use it for it's just perfect (mini quads only). I have way enough switches for my modes and checks. Maybe one nob more would make it easier to change PID directly from radio but I still manage well.
@tomrosch86907 жыл бұрын
So I got my qx7 (no mods done) and the RF performance is great, went 2,5km with my x4r on a full carbon quad (not ideal for RF ) and had no Fail-Safe, Rssi was above 90 all the time (I tested the RSSI and it works from 0-99). I use a L9R on my fpv wing, because I have no RTH on that and want to have extra relatability, also never had a issue, even at 2km with very high banking angles.
@P44man7 жыл бұрын
AFAIK, the RF module is the exact same one as in the Taranis. And therefore, pretty much bullet proof.. Its clear what you "give up": less switches, smaller screen, no sliders, cheap plastic case and finally, no battery, charger or even sd card included. Add that all up, the price difference with a discounted taranis becomes small enough, that I would pick the taranis.

As far as I'm aware the only place selling coloured cases is banggood, which would probably indicate those cases aren't the official ones. My white one is nice hard plastic. This would also explain the white antenna because the official black one comes with a black antenna (and sells out fast) and the white ones comes with a white antenna, and no one else seems to want white so they probably had a glut of them.
@gizfpv7 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that. The plastic on this orange one looks completely different to the plastic on my black QX7. The coloured plastic almost looks 3D printed when you look at the macro shots

6:16 My Q X7 came with the neck strap adapter. I didn't use it since I hold my TX, but it does come with one. Not sure why yours didn't? Also, Alofthobbies (For those in the USA) sells a 3800mAh 2s LiPo designed specifically for the Q X7.. that's what I use.. it lasts several weeks, or even a month depending how much you fly (I fly a lot).

It's a shame that FrSky won't talk to you anymore (Telemetry lost?) but I enjoy the fact that you give blunt reviews and tell it how it is. I've had this radio for a while now and it's been great, but I've had a few issues: 1. Once I was running late for a flying sesh and quickly put the SD card in the slot.. it ended up disappearing inside like your Runcam 3 and rattled around for 2 weeks till I could be arsed to fix it :P 2. the on off switch really gets annoying after a while, having to hold your finger on the button for 4 seconds to turn off every time becomes a drag 3. After adjusting the gimbles a few times, my plastic moulded screw holes inside don't hold the case together so well 4. The circular jog wheel to the right of the screen seems pretty crap, try turning it fast. Sometimes it goes backwards! :| 5. The FrSky logo at the top of the radio came unstuck within 10 minutes of taking it out the box. I think it's glued in with the world's least sticky glue. Otherwise, for the price I've been damn pleased, all of that OpenTX functionality is a steal for the price. Would I buy again? Yep.

The power button and scroll wheel are the biggest gripe. The rest is fine. Wish they made the dimension a bit smaller though.
@cup_and_cone7 жыл бұрын
Soft latch power switches are just better. Analogue switches can get intermittent when the wipers wear as it gets old, and you can accidentally turn it off with one flip. With digital it's either on or off, and you have to be actively trying turn it off...no accidental shutdown.

One mans meat is another mans poison ! The switch is great ! ! The positive timer for power down ensures it cannot be accidently switched off … unlike the FrSky Horrors ;-) The Nav, Wheel is also a great touch similar to my 9E, I have had too replaced both sets of buttons on my 9A/B (could be age or just rough handling ;-) This is really subjective ! the Q7 is the best radio I have ever held in “MY” hands, I feel really comfortable with it and natural. Please forgive me if this is a stupid question. What is the little servo-looking motor on the right side (as you look at the back) used for? I'm guessing to send vibration into the handset?

Correct. Just don't fly FPV with the transmitter on your lap or you might get pleasantly distracted. :-)

A pleasant distraction is always.. well, pleasent! ;) I've never had a radio that vibrated that I remember. Might be a nice feature. It's called a UF.L connector. Take care as the male plug is only rated for around 10 connect disconnect cycles.
