For those interested. Yes the X7 can have 16 Channels. But it comes defaulted to 7. You can update it to have 16. All the radios can also be updated to 32 Channels. Says FrSky.

Drone Camps RC when was it defaulted to 7 channels? I got mine not long after it came out, and I remember it always having 16. I always kept it updated with the latest opentx so maybe I never noticed? I have a hard time finding a use for 8 channels let alone 16...

Its 16chs out of the box, not just 7chs . Theres no updates to make it 16ch . I got a green one from Banggood and its 16chs .Mine also had the backlight. Maybe yours is burned out or you really have a old old QX7

I bought the white x7 and then upgraded the gimbals as well as the plastic case to the carbon fiber qx7s style, and it’s been working great for like 2 yrs now. I just ordered and received the R9m 900 MHz transmitter, I am still Waiting on the corresponding receivers.

You just made up my mind and sold me on the x7s I was looking between it and the x9d. What ever I get I’ll just be happy I’m away from spektrum finally and can have room for expansion

Thats weird. My qx7 regular white version has a backlight. Ive had it around 2 months now

My X7 has a backlight. It times out. But you can adjust it. The X7S comes defaulted to have the light stay on.

Honestly for most of us were only flying a mini quad and 8 is plenty and we who own the qx7 we can upgrade the gimbals for way cheaper than the qx7s and I bought 3D printed gimbal guards that look like rotor riot skulls and there’s silicon skins you can get not to mention thumb sticks so basically you can get the qx7 and do upgrades along the way rather than fork out all that dough up front especially those of us who are just starting out and the buy in is already around 1000 to 1200 for decent gear coming from the fly sky i6s the qx7 is a huge upgrade and I did do those upgrades to my qx7 over time and I have 2 cell lipos from my first brushless quad and the power the qx7 for a long time not having a back light never really bothered me I set my stuff up at home then selects the model I want in the field and you can still see the screen ok in the sun having said that if money isn’t an issue or you already have everything and this would be a nice radio to upgrade too both the qx7 and the qx7s rock I love Frysky,!! And open TX

Another X7 owner with a unit that was 16 channel out of the box and backlit LCD. Looking forward to swapping in the M9 gimbals! Either option, the X7 is an awesome series radio!

The switches on the QX7s are angled more than the QX7 making it more pinch friendly.

The X7s doesn't actually have exactly the same shape as the regular x7 - the switches above the gimbals angle away from the user slightly when compared to the X7. That's because (from what RCModelReviews said) it can be difficult to pinch on the QX7 if you have bigger hands, without flipping those switches inadvertently.

And the top of the housing is molded differently. The switches are angled up. Makes it a little better for pinch pilots. The switches are “upgraded” also, they flip a little easier. I switched from a qx7 to qx7s.

Its been about three or so years on mine with the hall effect gimbals and they are going south Time for a new transmitter ,, Sad I did the crossfire mod too so I wont be getting another one of these and doing that mod again for sure

The battery pack looks like it is simply six NiMH batteries, so how is that pack going to last any longer than standard AA NiMH batteries in series?

I'm confused, my QX7 has a backlit LCD screen. Is yours a pre-production version? Also you didn't mention that the QX7S still can't run Crossfire's protocol at full speed just like the QX7. So anyone looking to run crossfire at its full potential should go for the X9D

X7 has 16 channels too dude....am i wrong? the differense i see are the gimbals and the 3 position switches the long ones....with x7 i had 40 klm range signal...with futabas i have max till now with plane was 6 klm...btw i got the phoenix i asked your opinion and yes its perfect and durable as hell.....anything else would need repairs or something would go defective after some crashes i had....but phoenix is like new

FrSky stated it will be fixed in the next major release of OpenTX. However they didn't give a date of when that will be. I wouldn't hold your breath as you will probably suffocate before it is out.

M7 gimbals are the same as M9 gimbals, but the M7 gimbals are designed to fit the Q X7 and Q X7s while the M9 gimbals are designed to fit X9D, X9D+ etc.

Telemetry bug. Look it up. There's a firmware fix for it but I think it adds latency. The hardware fix involves soldering tiny surface mount components and is not for the faint of heart. I was hoping that they Q X7S didn't have the same problem.

...x7s got hall sensor gimbals + bluethooth + better switches...thats it...everything else the same...you can buy the better gimbals later...and solder in the not so exciting bluethooth later...and exchange switches ad they wear out...the x7s is overprized and not worth the money...go for standard x7 and update as you go along...the difference in feel of the expensive hall gimbals is absolutely minimal...the original switches are crappy but thats just to replace when worned out...if to suggest anything-save up and buy a jeti ds and a dc...i did and love the swiss clock precision and feel...but i also adore the sturdy plastic fantastic x7’s...but to sum up: it’s to polish a turd to upgrade a plastic fantastic cheap radio like the x7...

I like the idea of the 'S' version, and I can see why it's become so popular with the quad-copter and FPV peeps - lots of channels, lots of switches... But I fly big gliders with lots of moveable control surfaces - rudder, elevator, flaps, airbrakes, spoilers, ailerons, and variable wing camber (aerofoil section), and they need sliders and finely-positionable controls, not on/off switches. A throttle stick and a couple of tiny rotary pots just ain't enough. I was alarmed by the short battery life, too. 90 minutes? Good grief. My dear old Sprengbrook Variomodul Tx (late 1970s) ran for over 8 hours on a charge. On NICADS, already! It's a pity that nobody makes add-on bits for these radios so that weirdos like me could customise them to suit our needs. More sliders, please! As it stands, the QX7S is a good bit of kit... but... for somebody else, not for me.
