Hey Emmy. I had my three kids here yesterday so I went freezer diving for dinner. I had some frozen chicken broth and some frozen pieces of chicken in the freezer so I made a homemade chicken noodle soup. I added onions, celery and carrots to it. They devoured it 😊

Those pears look delicious! I love pears right off the tree. I was blessed to be able to go to 2 different friends farms to pick fresh sweet corn, green beans and tomatoes. Their gardens produced so well that it was going to go to waste if it wasn't picked and used. I was able to share this blessing with 3 other people also. I don't like to see food go to waste.

Hi Emmy, I love your channel! I rescued 4 oranges yesterday and decided to make a "whole orange cake". The recipe calls for a whole orange that has been simmered in water till soft, before being blitzed to a coarse pulp which is added to the cake batter. I managed to fill 3 ziplock bags with this orange goodness and put them into the freezer for future baking.

You may live in the most expensive state, but the grocery hauls I have seen so far have been much better pricing than where I live (the deep south). The town (population 22,000 with two colleges) I live in has 4 grocery stores which is not enough competition, but, a family owned grocery store is going in near my house (I have to drive 6 miles to the nearest store) and I think that will help! The bruschetta looks good!

Basic size fridge.. small….so I can’t buy too much… I grow in containers on my front porch, Cherry Tomatoes, Jalapeño Peppers, Italian Parsley, Basil, Green Onions, and Mint. I live in the city, but let me tell you we have Ground Hogs, Deer, Rabbits, Raccoons, Squirrels, Snakes, Lizards, Fox, Coyotes, and Rats and mice from the nearby restaurants. We are on a chickpea kick with all the ways to enjoy them when cooked from the frugal dried bean, soaked overnight, the pressure cooked in an Instant Pot for 18-20 minutes. The soak water is used to water the indoor herbs--nothing wasted. Then we make hummus, bean salad, Thai inspired coconut-peanut-chickpea-vegetable curry, chickpeas added to home made soups, refried chickpeas on tortillas made with masa plus tomatoes and cilantro from the garden, chickpea chili, toasted chickpea snacks, chickpea and brown rice burgers, and chickpeas in a stir fry. I use the aquafaba in desserts. The only thing I haven't tried is chickpea milk. Not too sure about that one! I keep cooked chickpeas in the freezer and the fridge for quick meals.

Here is one dinner tip: today we have rice with chicken stew and lots of vegetables. And as desert I have baken some plum cake ( what else? 😄). @@FrugalMoneySaver Here is my recipe for a fruit cake: 100 gramm butter, 100 gramm sugar ( brown or white, or less if you want), 200 gramm flour, 3 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla, 1 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp baking soda. Mix all ingridients with a cake mixer and put the dough in a 20x20 cm baking pan. Put the fruit (what ever fruit you want) on the dough and give 2 tbs sugar with some cinnamon on top. Bake the cake at 345 F. for about 35 or 40 minutes. The cake should be golden on the top. My father and my grandmother were pastry chefs. My grandmother has had her own little coffe shop with only handmade cakes. I loved to stay at her. That's why I love baking so much. 😉

For lunch today we had store bought pizza with our garden produce on top. Frozen or non-frozen take and bake cheese pizza is cheaper than supreme. I buy the cheese then add green peppers, onions, basil, garlic, and tomato - all from the garden. It is quick, easy, frugal, and tastes great. The cheese pizza from Aldi is only $4.99 and when I add all the toppings this feeds our family of 4 (with 2 teenagers). You can even add left over lunchmeat ham if there are a few pieces that need to be eaten.

That Bruschetta recipe looks delicious! We have a limited area that gets enough sun so what I can grow is limited but I always grow a few veggies. This year I did green beans, sweet red peppers and green onions. The beans did really well and I've frozen quite a bit as well as using them fresh out of the garden. I'm just starting to get peppers and I freeze most of them, too. I use lots of the green beans, peppers and green onions so it will save us quite a bit of money. Plus, I enjoy gardening. There isn't much I can do to preserve the green onions, but that's okay. Next year I will grow some tomatoes but I haven't yet decided what else.

My 2 cherry tomato plants haven't done well this year. I have a ton of pears this year. More than any other year. Do you have any recipes for pears? Tonight's menu is a skirt steak, homemade potato salad and a fresh mozzarella, tomato & basil salad with olive oil.

YUM!! Sounds wonderful! I make pear sauce in the crockpot and freeze it to use for Thanksgiving and the holidays. Very similar to applesauce only with pears...LOL! BTW Hope you had a wonderful day yesterday (wink wink!)

You're the best Emmy! I had a wonderful day! Thank you. I looked up pear recipes on KZbin and found quite a few. I'm going to try a few recipes, I'll let yet you know! 😉 I'm not a big pear fan but I hate to see them rotting. The wildlife around here love them... Bears? Deer? Who knows what's visiting at night!

It looks like your acme is the same chain as my safeway/Albertsons here. They do run some specials at times. I cherry pick them as well. Lol

Yes they are part of Albertsons! So smart!

Emmy and Paul I really enjoyed looking at your fresh produce. I wish my garden had done nearly as well. I’ve, got some small basil plants this year and am hoping to grow it throughout the winter. If it doesn’t work, then I can freeze it I suppose. Blessings to you and also to Dixie.

Ugh, so sorry. Some years are definitely better than other garden wise! Blessings to you as well!

Your homegrown produce would have cost more because organic stuff costs alot more. I also have a big garden and i am getting a huge amount of vegetables.

The home grown food tastes better too! Good job! My fiancé and I grew tomatoes, multicolored peppers, jalapeño peppers, banana peppers and cucumbers. We’ve been making tons of salsa and canning it. He also has 4 chickens, so we get fresh eggs too!

Oh chickens! I have always wanted chickens!
