Hi Ariel 👋, my besty been cutting and styling my hair since high school 40+ yrs , my hair long , fine but lots of it and still sunbleached like yours not many greys. Since pandemic I stopped going to see my friend 300 mi round trip and vulnerable for both of us. Was always a fun trip and a style. Always paid but I got a good deal. In a panic months in 2020 I watched a video, I separate the two sides and comb forward just like you but I just cut straight across while hair hanging down on my chest about 4 to 6inches below my shoulders, no bangs for me anymore. I wear it in a ponytail or clip , I would love to see my best friend but just not a good choice right now. Works well for me, I was shaking in my boots first time but it grows back.

Hi, Ariel. Me, too! I trim my own bangs & long hair. You are such a natural beauty! I have family/friends who get their hair done (cut/colored, etc.) every few weeks & by the time they give a deserving tip, it's over $200 each time!😳 I used to color my own hair which cost a fraction of going & getting it done & would get a discount stylist cut, but realized I have beautiful gray hair. So let it grow out & realize I can do quite a nice trim on my hair myself so I can keep that money for other things. Thanks for the continued encouragement! Love your posts!

If you want your wavy hair to become more wavy, add a handful of burdock root pieces into the herbal decocotion for the hair. I use only that decoction without any soap or shampoo. Whe hair dries, it looks like hair sections stuck together, which freaked me out a bit first time. But when I combed out my hair, it got beautiful waviness and volume. I can't stand any soap or shampoo, it makes my head itch for days. I always use filtered water to make decoction too as ur city water can make my head itch as well.

Twenty Five years ago I got tired of the time and money it cost to get my hair cut. One night on late night TV I saw an add for the Flowbee hair cutting system. It's a hair clipper that hooks up to a portable vacuum cleaner. I'm a guy so hair cutting is pretty simple. I later added a small battery trimmer. Now it take me about 4 minutes to cut and trim my hair. The cost and time savings are about $20,000 and 1000 hours of my time less the $200 invested in my Flowbee. I'm now on my second Flowbee and about my fourth battery trimmer but it is about the best money I've ever spent. During the pandemic I'm about the only person I know with a crisp short hair cut. I saw a news story where the actor George Clooney told an interviewer that he cut his own hair with a Flowbee and he became the butt of late night TV show jokes. Well, George and I disagree with the notion that cutting your old hair is a topic for late night humor. Ariel, I love your videos and common sense self sufficiency. Clay is a luck guy yo have found you (and you found him as well). Take care, stay warm, and keep entertaining and educating us. Thanks.

Something you may want to consider is not brushing your hair. For people with fine hair, brushing can cause breakage and "fluff." I have thick curly fine hair and I usually detangle after washing with a wide tooth comb and then only finger comb or lightly detangle til the next wash. I do usually wear my hair braided or twisted up which helps with tangles, dirt and frizz, but my hair has been smoother and more manageable since mostly eschewing the hairbrush.

I really like this. I just started this year cutting my hair myself. So far I've been using my sewing scissors, and a pair of thinning scissors I bought (my hair's super thick). I often have it pulled back or just the front part pulled back, so I actually kept some bits at the front "too long" just because I can. It's just hair, just some dead cells. I do understand why people go to the salon to get it done, and I did for many years, but now I feel I have a choice to do it at home or treat myself.

I do the same. I cut my husbands, daughters and my own hair and have for a couple of decades or more (self taught). I started out the same with a friend, we'd visit and cut each others hair for years then we just started doing our own. I have several mirrors in the bathroom so I can see the back really well. Once you get past the fact it's only hair and it will grow back it becomes easier to branch out. I do short or long cuts on myself, mine is very thick and the past few years I've been buzzing the underneath part off completely then layering and thinning the rest with thinning shears. Mine grows very fast so a short cut would be expensive to maintain if I went to a salon for it.

Awesome handy tip - I have cut my own hair ever since I discovered that I couldn't get the cut I wanted from a professional. I also have sun bleached hair - depending on how much sun I get how blonde it goes. It looks very similar to yours. I cut my hair in the fashion I feel for at the time - sometimes long, sometimes medium or even short. It's not hard just takes a bit of practice. The old saying there are only a few weeks between a bad haircut and a good one - is soooooooo true.

First of all, thank you. :) I need to start doing this again: I used to take black bristle brush and take a natural paper towel or natural paper coffee filter (try to keep out as much chemicals as possible) and put jojoba oil not too much on the paper (enough to make the whole paper oily but no excess is necessary.) and it seeps just enough onto the bristles to not get your hair oily in any one spot. I would brush the ends first then any dry patches in the back and then near my face oddly there were dry patches. Make the paper the size that when oiled it lays on top of all the bristles.

With the way some of these ‘stylists’ cut hair these days, you’re probably better off doing it yourself! I’ve been on the hunt for a decent stylist since mine retired and have had NO luck. The last one had the left side of my hair 1/2” too long. That’s not a _minor_ mistake, she screwed my hair up! I’ve had far too many of these ‘oopses’ by people who simply don’t take pride in their work. You’re working to make sure it is perfectly imperfect. You’ve kept it ‘natural’ (hence the imperfection), but you’re making sure it is layering and laying properly. While I prefer a more uniformed cut, I can appreciate natural styles. Another thing… how absolutely ridiculous that someone effectively called you a liar by claiming natural bleaching is impossible. SMH Some people are so stupid. You know your own hair and you know what treatments or lack thereof you utilize on it. Some people’s kids, I tell ya… smh

When my income cratered I started coloring & cutting my own hair. I also started cutting my husband’s. It looks as good as salon hair, at no cost now ever since I decided to lean into my 66 years & let the gray grow out. As to the putting people out of work by doing it yourself? What an odd rationale. If I plant my own garden am I putting farmers out of work? If I take control of my fitness by running or riding my bike am I putting a fitness coach out of work? If I figure out how to stop my toilet from leaking, am I putting a plumber out of work? Of course not. I can’t afford or don’t want to have people do these things for me. I’m surprised that people are calling out self-sufficiency. As pointed out, there are plenty of people with the money & desire to hire these tasks out. But there are also plenty of people for whom a $15-$20 hit does break the budget. Our hair still needs to be cut & it’s nice to have someone offer some tips.

I think you're beautiful your hair is always lovely. I can't stand going to the hairdressers I only had one man who did my hair correctly he made me look fabulous but every other hairdresser I have ever been to they just don't seem to care they never even give me the style I even asked for I even showed them a picture and still it comes out nothing like it that's okay though because I learn to cut my own hair I keep it to my jaw line and the back is up to the nape of my neck I just put it in a ponytail and give it a cut where I think it should be then I trim the sides it's very easy to style. Because I have lots of body to my hair it's very forgiving. I'm going to be honest I stopped paying hairdressers because either they just didn't care or they're just lousy at what they do and I've been to over hundreds of hairdressers every one of them were females I'm not trying to stereotype here but honestly this is how it is every single female was lousy at doing my hair like I said I only had one man who did my hair and he did a fabulous job if I can find a male hairdresser again I might consider but I do my own hair like I said so I don't need a hairdresser ever again since I learned how to do my own style. It was over the summer when I decided never again I have lived up and down the east coast and I have been to many hair stylist in every single state except for maybe three of them on the East Coast and not one is able to give a decent haircut in fact over the summer I went to get a haircut I cut it very short shorter than Dorothy Hamill's haircut to give you an idea and after she was done which took two seconds to cut my hair literally it only took under a minute to give me a haircut because at that time my hair was very short to begin with she charged me $20 and I understand that but what really got me upset was when she let me walk out with a wet head and didn't even style it I asked her to blow dry my hair and she said that would cost extra. That was the end for me

People do jump to conclusions, I was recently accused of having a blond bleach job. My warm white hair is natural I'm 75 and used to be a ginger and that is the colour reds go, in fact, like you the hair underneath is darker too.😊
