This video is the best thing I'm seeing in my adult life... I'm 26 and my husband and I just started eating beans more often, cooking dried beans.. I honestly could cry because of all the help you're giving me right now. Thank you, 100 times, over.

Yes, I remember being 26 and newly married, and how older more experienced people helped us along the way. Some unsolicited advice to you is, grow what you can yourself, even if it’s a few herbs and a potted tomato plant, stock your herb cabinet and pantry with the essentials, put a little food by for emergency or time of need, name brand is not always the best, in fact, many times, you are just paying for the name on the label, try and make cooking a pleasant experience and not a chore. Good luck to you from an old kitchen witch. 🍲🥦🌞

What I love most about this channel is that it kind of proves that you can make decent, mostly healthy, home-cooked meals for cheap. I once worked at a really boring data-entry job, so I used to talk with my co-workers a lot. We talked about food, and I was just kind of shocked to learn that many of my co-workers like didn't know how to cook for themselves. Like, not even soup. I gave them a recipe for crockpot chili. They were thrilled. The women of my family have always known how to cook...(although my bf cooks better than me!) buut its a skill I never take for granted. This channel also proves that you don't have to be like a chef to make good, home-cooked meals. Making home cooked meals is a life skill that everyone should have, and it's easy, too!

when you make a frugal meal make it special with a great dessert, here is my favorite recipe for zucchini: CHOCOLATE ORANGE ZUCCHINI CAKE Favorite Recipes of the Sutton Families & Friends Ingredients: 2 1/2 cups flour (unsifted) 1 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 cup cocoa 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. cinnamon 3/4 cup soft butter 2 cups sugar 3 eggs 2 tsp. vanilla 2 tsp. grated orange rind 2 cups coarsely shredded zucchini 1/2 cup milk 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts Recipe instructions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine flour, cocoa, baking, powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Set aside. With mixer beat together the butter and sugar until they are smoothly blended. Add the eggs; one at a time, beating well after each addition. With a spoon, stir in the vanilla, orange peel, and zucchini. Alternately stir dry ingredients and the milk into zucchini mixture, including the nuts as a last addition. Pour into a greased & floured 10 inch tube pan or Bundt pan. Bake in oven at 350 degrees for about 1 hour or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 15 minutes. Turn out on wire rack to cool thoroughly. Drizzle glaze over top. Cut into thin slices to serve. GLAZE: Mix together 2 cups powdered sugar, 3 Tbsp. milk and 1 tsp. vanilla; beat until smooth.

I made the potato soup yesterday and I did it exactly as Christine and her mother make it. OMG…that is soooo good!! I live by myself in an apartment, so I shared the soup with some of my neighbors in the building. They loved it as much as I did. Interestingly enough, one neighbor had two teeth pulled yesterday and that soup was ideal for him! I’m making the spicy noodles next, followed by the red beans and rice. Oh! I almost forgot! I made the cinnamon raisin bread last Sunday and it was another winner!

I don't know if I have a favorite, but what I did learn from this video was that there are lots of ways to make low costs meals and many of them do not involve meat. I have traditionally used meat as a basis, but this helped open my eyes as to what other things I can do to feed my family. Probably healthier without the meat as well. I greatly appreciate this video!

I dropped in to tell you that I made your raisin bread. It’s really, really good! I almost never make anything from the many KZbin food videos I see, mostly because the ingredients aren’t available where I live in Italy, but this one interested me, and all the ingredients were always in my pantry. I had a small problem because of cups instead of weight, I do have cups, though, and the difference in our flours, my mixture was very wet. Muddled through with confidence, as I am anything but an amateur, so I have tricks. If you end up with a wet dough, use more flour on your work surface, and use a dough scraper dipped in flour to manipulate it on the work surface, then put it on floured parchment, extra large sized. Fold and roll, repeat. Its never going to be a ball, but it should at least have a form after a while. When your pot is heated and dough rested, use the parchment like a sling to get it into the pot. Then return to Christine’s directions and you’ll have a delicious loaf.

hey Christine! thought I would share my "efficient" method for chicken n dumplings. instead of making the mess and spending time rolling dough....I form my dough into a loose ball in the bowl...and then with thoroughly floured hands I pinch bite size pieces and plop them into the boiling soup (carefully). then any flour leftover just goes in the soup too and helps thicken it. quicker and less mess to clean later.

I had to rewatch the section where Ryan(?) popped in at least four times! My brain overloaded on the cuteness and I didn’t hear a single word you said. 😅 Thank you for another excellent cooking video, and for downloadable recipes! I'm sharing the link so my daughter in a college apartment can see you in action, making easy meal magic. Although I don't yet have an InstaPot and she can't use that or a Crockpot on campus, many recipes can still be made. I'm so happy to have another mom's cooking talents on video that she can watch and learn from as she starts experimenting on her own while she's away. I love that you are a flexible cook and tweak your recipes to suit your tastes and by what is available in your home; that is an essential skill. Thanks again! 💜

Yup. As a kid, we lived off of beans, rice, tortillas, tomatoes, onions and chilies. My mom would use one chicken to feed a family of six and spread it out for two dinners (Enchiladas, tacos, quesadillas, casserole bakes). Same with one lb of ground beef. She would bulk it up with rice or beans. Cutting back on meat was and still is an easy way to trim the budget.

When I make any kind of taco or tortilla soup, my family likes when I make homemade tortilla strips as a topping. I cut up any leftover tortillas and fry them quickly in oil. Drain them on a paper towel or shake in a brown paper bag

I love your videos! I always look forward to seeing your videos every week. You have an amazing personality and always make viewers feel like a part of the video. Your recipes are always good and I use them often. Also you inspire me to get into fitness regimen with family. Thank you. Oh and I am redecorating my room similar to Hayley’s style with light sage green. Thank you for sharing

My mother (who passed away a year ago) used to make slippery dumplings the exact same way for chicken and dumplings. That section of your video made me smile and remember so many evenings as a child rolling dumplings on the counter with her. But I was never allowed to drop them into the boiling brother because she didn't want me to splash and burn myself. :)

I tried the Jose Ole Taquitos I found at Dollar Tree. They are wonderful. I also got the last 3 boxes of the loaded potato sticks. Will have them soon.

Since I’m a pretty dedicated watcher I had pretty much seen all these recipes before, and made several of them 😀 BUT I haven’t seen this pizza dough/crust/batter (??) before! Definitely going to try it

The recipe just says flour. Is that self rising or all purpose? Mine didn’t turn out quite right

My friend taught me to make dumplin's with just egg and enough flour to make it barely pourable. Use a spoon to scrape bits straight into the pot. They puff a bit, so if you make them too big they might not cook well in the center.

another awesome video! a quick suggestion on the dumpling cutting - next time, use a pizza cutter.. it makes quick work of it and it doesnt "drag" the dough like a knife does. i use this trick with pie crusts, sheet pan biscuits and the crescent dough sheets, too, when I'm fixin up pigs in a blanket or homemade hot pocket type shizzle.. #kitchenhack

I make Irish soda bread with orange/cranberries soaked in rum or marsala or maderia wine for the holiday in the Dutch oven. Like your recipe for raisin bread will try with the golden ones.

Thanks for this video and all your videos! I just prepped all the recipes from your Chicken Freezer Meals video just in time to come down with a sinus infection, and I couldn't be more thankful to have some meals ready to cook for the family. Thanks for making your recipes available and inexpensive!
