Smart guest liked this video. I agree interspersing other valuable trees and plants to attract a array of diverse insects, birds, etc that can feed on this beetle and help mitigate the disease from root spread. Spraying insecticides or injecting fungicides is not the answer in my book (aka the destroy and replace model). For those looking for others strategy on planting high density closer than 15-20 feet that was kina laughed at by this manager. In my opinion a home garden orchard has lots of options. Personally I like high density (6'-8' apart) in AZ because I can maximize the soil conditioning, shade, watering, soil health (worm super highway), fungi root benefits. I like to put other plants next to the trees like, ginger, heliconia, basil (many varieties), lavender, water melon, squash, pumpkin, wild flowers, ground cover, and other various plants that attract pollinizers. I do this in areas that have the micro climates that are conducive to the plant/tree. Add worm castings, a good outdoor potting soil, and condition the holes deep to penetrate the hard pack and large stones native in our soil. Remove the top 4"-6" inches surrounding the high density plantings and replace with compost. Mulch the top 4"-6". Erect sunshade fabric around the most sensitive young plantings with garden poles and 75% sunshade. Run cheap drip tubes over the ground to sprayers not drip. Connect RV water purifier to the main water feed to the supply hoses. The idea is to saturate the entire row of high density planting which is typically less than a grass yard. I believe this method will save you time, money, and from buying your plants again because the first one died. Because you planted high density you can afford for a plant or two to either die, not grow well, or you just decide to remove it due to competition with a tree you prefer etc. This way we don't wait 30y to gather a few trees. Keep returning carbon to your soil. Good luck everyone!

Hello John, Have you heard of a variety of avocado called, Avogrey originating in Australia? Ask the experts if they are familiar and if they will be growing them. I have heard great things about this variety, that is only available to commercial growers thus far. The production is said to be off the charts and very resistant to diseases, not to mention the taste.

I believe the Avogrey varieties are from New Zealand. Avogrey is the orchard's name and the varieties are 'Greystar', 'Titan' and 'Eclipse'. They were developed by David and Judi Grey from seedlings of Sharwil avocadoes.

Taste should have been the follow up question to what's your favorite? I dunno a thing about it, but if I'm gonna invest years and money, I want one that's tasty first. I was tired of looking at them for $2.90 each in the store with zero idea on what they even are. Follow up how much you pay?

Thank you for sharing this information. I am going to have to cut down a 50 year old avocado tree. To me, it is not just a tree. It has so much sentimental value.

I meditated on this issue and here is the solution I’m given: add turmeric powder, cinnamon powder, cloves powder to neem oil and brush on the trees. This will prevent new trees from getting infected and heal infected trees.
