thanks for all the great advice/info... I'm working with a small 2 acre property that includes my house. I have roughly 25 mango trees planted so far, all in rows planted 15' apart with rows 15' apart. However, I did plant several varities @ only 12' apart... Julie, Dwarf Hawaiian, Ice Cream, Little Gem, Pickering and a Rosigold. I also staggered the trees from row to row. All trees have been planted this year, and hopefully this system will work for me. I know up front there will be some strategic pruning involved moving forward. Your channel has been very helpfull in my fruit tree planting journey! Be safe during this storm!

My only argument had been that early on you were too enthusiastic about high density planting. The first thing I learned decades ago in Cayman is how big mango trees want to get and that if you have the room, 20' between trees is ideal for minimal effort needed to maintain them later in life as these trees will outlive us and keep growing. Annual pruning immediately after fruit finishes is still advisable for max fruit production, regardless the space available. Following the temporary gap filling concept, I'd put my forever trees 20' apart and temporary trees in between those. I also give my trees the biggest boulders I can handle to grip onto within the soil and I limit their height, all to help them survive hurricanes. If knocked down by a storm, resurrect them along with a deep pruning. Most will recover well and should not be reflexively cleared away (as I've seen done by those who don't know how likely they are to recover if helped). This year I gave my trees a deep pruning while TS Beryl was approaching and was glad I did. That one knocked down lots of trees here, but not mine.

Although I do not like to plant fruit trees closely with the idea of removing some after a period of years to avoid overcrowding issues, I understand that it is a workable option for persons with limited planting space. If one does not wait too long, it is also possible to remove and sell the undesired trees. Your video offers good experience-backed advice for other fruit growers. I think that another practical alternative for very committed growers is planting cocktail trees with 2-4 varieties on them. If one grafts varieties with similar growth habits, one can maintain fewer trees and retain more varieties in a smaller space. My newest grafting experience is a Glenn/Young/Honey Kiss cocktail tree. .Can't wait to see how it grows! ....Mango mania continues!

3 things, 1. glad to hear you're a vegan, I am too, It's the healthiest diet for humans! 2. why not just keep all the trees pruned back super hard like a bonsai? I have cut back 2 very large 70 year old orange trees down to a 4ft tall stump and they have exploded with new growth and oranges after 2 years. Gardening Australia has a video about this and it worked for my trees. 3. I'd like to find out more about that toxin in cherimoya, we have a very large tree in southern CA and love the fruit. I plan on leaving a comment for Dr. Gregor or Mic the Vegan, or The Exam Room Podcast and hope to get a scientific answer.

You have a lot of mangos. Not that you have the space for it anymore, but how come you never planted a Valencia pride? Side story, the house I grew up in Miami had a mature mango tree (don’t know variety but were very good) from before we moved in. I’d climb up about 20 feet with a picker that was 16 ft, and I still could never reach the highest mangoes, which were, of course, the best. These trees get huge.

Paul, I’m in Souther California. You must have a large piece of property compared to what most of us have. You have many wonderful varieties of mangos, etc. Do you have an IG or email that I can contact you? I’ll see if I can find any information at the top. You’re absolutely right about spacing. I took a short class from an arborist, and he said to look at and consider the eventual size a a full grown tree. It’s always surprised and shocked me how many homeowners plant next to their foundations so that they can have a lawn in the middle for the kids to play in. It just doesn’t work too well. Just an opinion Paul, but you have way more knowledge and vested interest in eating food for your health, I would keep a Soursop. Just eat them in during one season and in moderation. People around all of South America eat Soursop but not all of them are having issues. This is one tree I wouldn’t have an early, middle, and late season Soursop. Just one.

There are toxins in EVERY SINGLE TYPE OF FOOD THAT YOU EAT!!! The question becomes, is how much, does that amount actually have a significant impact, are the nutrients available in the food counteracting the toxin, and can the toxin be removed (such as through cooking). I would make a strong bet that those Annona fruit are just fine, don't cut down those beautiful trees.
@FruitfulTrees15 күн бұрын
Why would anyone want to cook a fruit? Yuk, the question is no one knows how much they just say don't over eat on it. I don't think it is worth the risk as much as I love the fruit. I will still eat a few each year but what is the point of having a tree for a few fruit
@shrimuyopa811715 күн бұрын
@FruitfulTrees You have to cook elderberry. It's poisonous otherwise. Fruit jams are also cooked. Also, I love bramble berry, apple, cherry, peach, and key lime pies. Those are all cooked. I understand your potential reason for cutting the tree down, though. Best of luck, you have a beautiful yard!

@@shrimuyopa8117 you are correct I didn't think about fruit jams etc. because I've been eating raw fruits as my diet for so long. But with soursop I don't know anyone who cooks that and I only eat raw food anyway so I wouldn't be thank you for the suggesting and understand.
