If I could give this a thousand thumbs up 👍I would !!! The content couldn't have been more SPECIAL, since Hurricane Fiona changed the course of your direction to salvage Fruity Knitting's schedule of planned events...instead we received an incredibly intimate view into the lives of Prince Edward Islanders passion for making, knitting culture, storytelling and history of a very magical place !!! Thank you so much for deciding to tough out the storm and allowing us to tag along on your great adventure ❤

Another wonderful episode dear Andrea and Madelaine. I particularly enjoyed the two ladies at the end, the Newfundlanders. 🙂 I recently watched the movie: "Shipping News", which plays in Newfundland. I recall the actress Judy Dench, telling her nephew, who is played by Kevin Spacey, about his grandfather who died when he was only 12 years old. Stacey wonders, how this can be possible, if he is his grandfather, whereas Dench replies: "You don`t know Newfundlanders." lol. 🙂By the way: I think it is a great idea to include recipes in the books! Food and drink are essential items to survive and so is clothing. Food and drink brings folks together, crafting, telling stories as well. And since the first book was brought to life in a Cafè, it makes perfect sence. I would really enjoy the occasional Newfundland culinary recipe, along with the knitted ones. Blessings from Rose-Cottage, Schurwald Forest, Germany. 🙂

As a Canadian who has not been home in over 15 years, I thank you for this episode! It was so wonderful to see Christine and Shirley. They were so funny. And I concur...adding recipes would be great....sugar pie, butter tarts and screech! It is too bad about missing the yarn festival, but you have managed to snag some great stories and memories from your trip! I love the look of your website. I have been watching you since the beginning. Thank you to you, Madeline and, of course Andrew in heaven for creating the best forum for knitters!

Congratulations, Andrea. You are wearing the most beautiful jumper I've ever seen. I loved your interview from Newfoundland. It is a great skill to know when to be quiet and let people tell their own stories and I am full of admiration for the self-restraint in the way that you conduct your interviews. I always feel that we have seen the best from your interviewees and that you have enabled them to communicate their knowledge with enthusiasm and enjoyment.

I’ve only been to Nova Scotia twice, once 20 years ago and once this past September, and a hurricane hit both times… Hurricane Juan in 2003 and Hurricane Lee in 2023. Both storms were very destructive and the power went out for days, but we stayed and still enjoyed our time weathering the storms. Düring our most recent trip, many knitters mentioned your visit to PEI (they were all looking forward to meeting you!) and Hurricane Fiona forcing the cancellation of the fiber festival. What a huge disappointment. But I love that you stayed and made the most of it! What a memory for you both that lives on in this lovely episode. ❤ Kim

With the designs of Selbu Mittens and Selbu Patterns from Norway my love of pure wool and knitting started 40 years ago. In summer 2021 I was so lucky to visit "Selbu Spinneri" who make the traditional yarn in Norway for these patterns and in collaboration with the author of these books. I very much enjoyed this part of today´s episode. Big thank you to Kim - and of course to Andrea and Madelaine!!! 💖

The trip around PEI was such a joy and Shirley and Cristine are such a delight that I just sat back with my knitting (socks at the moment) and basked in the laughter and beauty. Thank you so much Andrea, Madelaine. I'm sorry that Hurricane Fiona messed things up in so many ways but thank you for sticking around to enjoy such a beautiful place. HUgs

Thank you for a wonderful episode. I spent a summer in Newfoundland with my husband in 2011. I had the opportunity to sit and knit with NFL knitters. We fell in love with NFL mostly because of the people, who will readily invite you in their house for a piece of pie, even though you’re a total stranger. The scenery, the sea, the icebergs, the whales, the puffins, there was so much to love. There’s something about the air in NFL, once you’re there, it’s hard to come back. Thank you for bringing that segment, it brought me back to a very happy summer in my life, I have since lost my husband but watching this made me feel like he was sitting right next to me and smiling. ♥️

As a Canadian I really, really, really enjoyed this episode. Almost 50 years ago my mom and I raised sheep. We actually sent wool to McAuslands Woolen Mill and still have one of their blankets. Also used to knit with Briggs and Little Yarns. We live in western Canada so it was amazing that we even knew about these places as there was no internet back then. My husband and I now have friends that are from Newfoundland. They still have the accent and oh my goodness, the sense of humour!

I definitely felt like a kindred spirit when we visited the Anne of Green Gables park. I felt my roots very strongly in P. E. I. I felt like I belonged there. What a lovely edition with such fascinating stories....and toe tapping music to boot. So glad you were able to grab such wonderful footage and that you remained safe throughout. I do agree a wool blanket is just the warmest thing ever. I knit my husband an extended 'HUGE' version of Kate Davies Rams and Yowes for our anniversary some yrs ago and whenever he is feeling under the weather he grabs it and tucks up. He always says' it really is the warmest blanket in the house' which makes me smile. Glad to see Jack doesn't for into full withdrawal from you girls. NancyKnot

I love everyone and everything Fruity Knitting! This said, I particularly love this episode. In June 2014, my husband and I visited Prince Edward Island for the first time. This was a dream come true for me. We both loved PEI and continued to visit for a full week each and every June through 2019. Then, of course, COVID happened. I was on pins and needles when it looked likely PEI would be in the path of Hurricane Fiona. Watching this episode, I felt I was once again in PEI. Familiar places: Confederation Bridge, Prim Lighthouse, MacAusland Woolen Millm, Fleece & Harmony, Anne of Green Gables Museum, all of which we've visited regularly in years past, plus Belfast Mini Mills (perhaps we'll see in a future episode). Familiar landscape: red earth, blue sky, blue sea. During our visit in 2018, I bought a copy of "Saltwater Mittens" at the Charlottetown Farmers Market. This book had just been published. And, in fact, only this past week I finished knitting two pairs of mittens from this book for two friends. Seeing the aerial view of the Confederation Bridge which welcomes all visitors and Fruity Knitting viewers to Prince Edward Island, I actually felt a lump in my throat and a little tear in my eye. I love PEI and miss it so much. Thank you so very much, Andrea and Madeleine, for making it possible for me to once again visit PEI, vicariously, through you both and this episode. I am hoping the PEI Fiber Festival finally happens in 2023 and I will be able to visit PEI, in person, once again! Many thanks!

So glad you made the most out of your trip to PEI. I was thrilled to hear stories from my home province of Newfoundland! I was expecting to see a pair of knitted slippers. (Maybe in the next book, along with a recipe for steamed blueberry pudding??) Andrea, so impressed that you pronounced "Newfoundland" just like a local. Thank you for this amazing interview. I could not love this episode more! I was born and raised in Newfoundland and always love hearing Shirley and Christine and seeing their books. I have yet to knit any of those patterns but they were such a staple while growing up. Perhaps I've always taken them for granted - I need to change that! 17 years ago I moved to PEI and now call it home. I'm so proud of how you showcased it. This was an episode close to my heart. My daddy was a Newfoundlander and had a pair of Trigger Mittens knit by his mum in the diamond pattern. I was always intrigued by these mitts as a little girl and as an adult, having taken up knitting, I couldn’t help but buy the Saltwater Mittens book. Dad passed away this past July so watching this flooded me with memories - good memories - of his stories of growing up in Newfoundland in the 40’s and 50’s. Thank you so much Fruity Knitting. I visited Janet's Green Gables alpaca farm about 4 times in 2018, visited Fleece & Harmony last year and follow Kim's podcasts, I've got a couple of Christine and Shirley's books so knit many of their mittens and just before left PEI I went to MacCauslands and bought another of their lap blankets. You still worked hard and so did all of your guests. We were staying just down the road from Point Prim, and left for home in tears (New Brunswick). I knit the moose hat using Samoyed yarn and Briggs and Little yarn from Belfast Mini Mills. Such a lovely interview with the Saltwater authors. I have yarn from Fleece and Harmony and McCauslands as well as one of their blankets. You introduced me to the Cabin Boys. This lovely episode was a balm and as usual made my day. I am so thankful for all the work you two put in to make each episode so fun and interesting, and I especially want to thank Madeline to take the time on how Patreon works and how to access it all, for all the non techy elderly folks like myself.

I loved seeing a sweater knit with a 2mm needle! It’s got me thinking I want to find a pattern in such a fine gauge! Thank you for coming to Canada and sharing of your journey here! I have yet to visit the east coast but now have extra impetus To go. 😊

Another wonderful podcast from you both, thank you! What a beautiful and special place PEI is and perhaps although it was sad that the yarn festival was cancelled due to 'Fiona' you were able to make these fantastic interviews!

As a Canadian living in the US I enjoyed this episode so much. My husband is from PEI and it is my favorite place. You did a wonderful job showcasing the island and its people. I was able to go to Fleece and Harmony this past May and buy some of their beautiful yarn. It is an absolute joy to work with. I’m so sorry the fiber festival was canceled yet again, but, you made the most of a difficult situation. Thanks again for a lovely episode.

I was born and partially raised in NL and although I haven’t lived there since I was a girl, my heart is still there, so seeing this video of these ladies sharing their enthusiasm about knitting and wool, this brought me a little piece of home. Thank you so much.

My My this was a lovely episode! I live in Nova Scotia and was hoping to cross the bridge for the festival and meet you but Fiona got in the way. I have all three Saltwater books and look forward to getting the fourth one. I knit my husband trigger mitts and he used them when driving the tractor and or other work on the farm when weather was cold. Hopefully you will be back next year!!

Love the Bohus jumper. It’s stunning and I’m getting tempted to try that out and the same pattern and colours that you used. 😊
