It's not the rulebook's fault people don't know how to do basic tactics. Funny that D&D players would benefit from a game like Doorkickers. Never thought tactics and D&D ever belonged in the same sentence, but there ya go.
@Sanquinity
@Sanquinity 6 ай бұрын
@@manictiger D&D and tactics absolutely go hand-in-hand though. Talking from 3.5e here as I've never played 5e, but; Moving behind an enemy already engaged with an ally of yours to flank, moving to an ally to heal them while staying out of reach of the enemy, repositioning while avoiding enemy reach to avoid attacks of opportunity, ready actions to coordinate with allies, throwing AoE/cone spells in such a way that it misses allies, standing next to an ally with a shield while having the shieldmate feat, that's all tactics.
@manictiger
@manictiger 6 ай бұрын
@@Sanquinity I think it's pretty cool. I used to have the perception that it was just number-crunching and role-playing. I didn't know clearing complexes efficiently, avoiding crossfire on friendlies, L-shaped ambushes, etc. mattered.
@Sanquinity
@Sanquinity 6 ай бұрын
@@manictigerHonestly it only matters as much as the players want it to matter, with a good DM at least. A good DM will adjust enemy tactics to player playstyle. Or at least I wouldn't put a band of highly tactical and organized bandits against a bunch of barbarians that just want to charge in and wreck shit. (okay maybe once or twice for the lols, but not in general. :P) But I would recommend every campaign to have at least some tactics required, as it makes combat more interesting than just "charge at opponent -> roll attack/damage dice"

I agree on the production, it’s definitely really well done. But I don’t agree about the writing. The ‘joke’ is really what the series is about. It’s meant to be multi-layered. It’s simplest concept is seeing new players (both to each other and the game) react to some of the realities and logistics of D&D. But it’s also seeing those same things from a character’s POV as well as the POV of someone playing their character (which is a different thing from either of the previous). I mean, you do you. This is just my opinion and I’m not trying to impose it upon you. I, personally, enjoy the hell out of the nuance & complexity of melding those various POVs. I’m just offering a different way to view it that might change your own (or at least get you thinking in a better mindset).

@@touchofstrange except that this is almost identical to the second video. It’s a gag about the logical incongruity of turn order. First it was waiting to get healed, now waiting to move. Minor details that really don’t change the joke. Edit: To be perfectly clear, the joke works. Both skits are individually funny. It’s the fact that they are the same joke in such a short time that is the problem.

I feel like everyone knows this meme already, but would be funny to see you guys make a video on: The peasant cannon, for those that don't know it: In DnD, a round of combat is 6 seconds, that includes EVERYONES turn, so if you create a line of peasants and tell them to all ready their action to pass a rock to the front and the guy in the front to throw it when he got it, than you give the last peasant the rock, it now gets passed from one peasant to the next all in the same 6 seconds and it has no limit on how many peasants, so with enough peasants you have just created the most lethal weapon in existence. This is obviously a meme, since the rules would just state that throwing this rock does, I dunno, like 1d4 damage or something, but laws of physics say it would do a little bit more. Honestly both results could be funny in a video: The peasants pass the rock it gets faster and faster and than just obliterates anything in its path Or the peasants pass the rock it gets faster and faster, just to bounce of some goblin.

Honestly this all could have been avoided if Rowan the "rules lawyer" spoke up 2 minutes earlier with "Hey, you can ready an attack for when she moves." Not to mention she could have just taken the shot with a slight penalty due to cover... If anything, this ignorant argument was the true downfall of this session :P
