I live in Minnesota and a friend of mine was told by Minneapolis police that they did not have the resources to help him retrieve his own recently stolen truck from a driveway he just happened locate while working. They asked if he had another key, and to just go take it back. My friend asked "what if I get shot" in witch was answered by " oh, then we'll come help". My friend did get his truck back, having to risk it all to steal his own property back. Defund the police. In what clown world does this make sense? What are taxes going to? I don't think law and order is to much to ask for. And now St. Paul is not prosecuting any theft under 500$. Wtf I live in the wrong state.

We contacted and made report to the Minneapolis police department regarding our $2,400.00 skidsteer glass door being stolen right off of our parked skidsteer on a snow plowing lot. There were some security cameras in the area but they were never checked, the police didn’t seem interested in a criminal theft and no one even cared from the department, from the plowing company we were contracted with nor the facility we were plowing. We decided to pull our equipment out of the area and only plow locally as a result. We deal with enough headaches the way it is. Our plowing night was freezing cold without that skidsteer door and we had to pay for a new door outright because our insurance deductible was just slightly less than the new door cost. The crime in big cities isn’t worth our time, our health, safety or headaches. For those whom support big city crime and do nothing about it, that’s on your turf and mind, not ours. This is why we don’t live in large metropolitan areas and for other reasons.

Police really are pretty much useless and will almost never be there when you need them. Had they been armed when they initially got to that homeless camp they could have just gone in their and gotten their stuff and van back. I heard similar story of a local plumbing and heating business van got stolen and located at the homeless camp ground. The police refused to retreat it. The guy lost lots of expensive tools. Minneapolice just don't 'protect and serve' if it means they have to pull officers from patrolling Hennepin and Nicollet to go retrieve a stolen van. In their view, the high profile cases always take precedent. The tools are already gone, the owners are insured, what's left is a clunker van that's probably worth more to them as a total writeoff. They could send two officers and a tow truck, but why bother? The cost of the owners' time likely exceeds what pawn shops paid for those tools, it's not even worth trying to recover them.

Well the van and tool owners DO take a big hit even if they are insured: firstly their insurance deductible and secondly their insurance company will either raise their rates or drop them or pay them less than they should. So they're still taking a loss. The police in Minneapolis are still under-staffed so yes violent crime does have to take precedence, but the city should now budget for higher wages and create more scholarships for 2-4 year police degrees, hiring bonuses etc. Gotta pay to play I guess and sadly the real estate taxes are already too high in the cities. The scum bags who steal like that aren't paying any taxes at all I'm betting....clearly not sales tax on vehicles or tools !!! Hey if you can drive a stolen truck than get a frickin' job as a driver you dim witted thief !
