Agree with you on the delay in announcing the delay. I spent most of the day yesterday (7th), renaming the Community folder, starting MSFS expecting the update, and looking all over for an official new release date. The update does not contain much I am waiting for, but I have been waiting for the Black Square Dukes, which are contingent on the update. So, a delay due to needing to fix more things is fine, but please let us know sooner.

It seems to me that the SU15 delays are a reminder of just how complex this software is. Only a short few years ago this sort of flight sim program would have been unthinkable (recall FSX for example). I'm happy to wait for the programming experts to do their work and complete it to their high standards.

I'm not sure if this is related, but you can Google news articles with these words in the headline, which came out on May 7th, same date as the anticipated SU15, "Microsoft's Xbox shuts multiple studios". These studios may be exclusively involved in developing games for the Xbox platform other than MSFS, which seems to be Asobo's project. However, the writing may be on the wall, and Xbox is past its zenith as a gaming platform. Here is my sad story with yesterday's update. I decided to update my Xbox S, the version of Xbox that is the 'acid test' for resolving the black screen issues for glass cockpits. As soon as I started it up the Xbox S needed to update itself. Once that was done, I opened MSFS. It too needed to be updated. "Excellent!", I thought, the update is happening! Because the Xbox S is such an under-performer, I don't have the entire suite of MSFS sceneries and add-ons downloaded to this platform. I don't want to over tax its processor and memory. I just have the minimum I need to fly as smoothly and with as few issues as possible. After it finished the update, I flew the Vision Jet. It seemed to operate just fine. No glass cockpit black screens! Woohoo!!! Then I remembered Huddison's tip on updating aircraft and add-ons after the main update to MSFS. Sure enough, the Vision Jet needed an update. I proceeded with this update (v2.3.x). After that was done I returned to flying the Vision Jet. Alas, the black screens were back. I decided to switch to the stock TBM930. It also has a glass cockpit but no black screen issues, that is until now. It too suffers from black screens on the Xbox S. What a crock of you know what!!! I guess we can all surmise what the "S" in Xbox S stands for. In hindsight, I know that I updated my Xbox S to pre-SU15 currency (I hadn't run it for quite a while). Still, why did my experience with the TBM930 degrade to black screen hell after the update? I understand that MSFS is a very complex bit of software. I would grudgingly accept the idea that MSFS updates are two steps forward and one step back. However, in reality, this ratio seems reversed. From reading various blogs on MSFS, it seems that not just X-boxers, but PC simmers as well, are are suffering from this in inverted upgrade program. Let's hope that Microsoft and Asobo finally get their "S" together. Otherwise the next Xbox will be the Xbox U, for Unplayable, Unprofitable and Useless.

Absolutely, better wait for resolving the issue(s) first, rather than get an SU which requires patches all the way. Yet more transparency in communication would have been appreciated. Hopefully they announce it first, preferably with indicated time zones, before it suddenly pops up.

I agree about the late notification. I wanted to fly but didn’t want to be flying when it dropped, in case it caused some kind of issue. I’m glad they’re taking the time to get it right but do wish they would’ve notified us earlier in the day, or the day before.

I am with you Mr Huddison on sim update 15 being delayed, hopefully Asobo will get it right. Knowing all the factors that have to go into the development of complex software, such as MSFS 2020, we may also be looking at renaming MSFS 2024 to MSFS 2025.

Im a pc user and all my ctds were my pc settings, slight overclocks and memory timings, i have no issues now i have worked through them and it stable now

Since SU15 is probably the last update for FS2020 I would assume Asobo wouldn't want to release it with bugs. They just want to drop the update and move on from fs2020, and concentrate on FS2024. I am in the beta and I will say on my system the beta has really good FPS and good stability.

People may be unhappy with the delay, but they would be even more unhappy if a bad update came out with issues. They should stop giving dates until they are confident they have a stable build without any major problems.

Id argue that alot of people would like a unfinished version and just get little changes through a few weeks but i guess its all for the best anyway

The ability to have a "carte blanche" for unlimited delays only encourages it in the process. Unforeseen events and difficulties in complex softwares are inherent to their natures, it has always been like that. That said, they're also predictable by PM's along with their T.I teams to great extent. Of course receiving a well polished update for it's final delivery makes sense, but just because something makes sense it does not mean it's right, there's a lot of context. By the looks of the Beta at this point, I think people will not find their "game changer", or the stutter and bug free they are pursuing with this release. At this point this is only increasing the pressure and expectation on their shoulders. Just release a deadline and commit to it.

When I started my sim today after the search updates finished I got a small update loading but don't know what for. After the update the sim loaded.

To be honest, I some kind of knew on thursday evening (2024-05-02) that SU-15 will be delayed again. How? Microsoft rarely releases on fridays and mondays, not even beta-versions. And knowing that the Beta should run a few days in public before it will be releases to the rest of the world made it clear on thursday that the tuesday will come and go without official release of SU-15.

I 100% agree. Let folks fly on whatever platform (& by what ever method) they are comfortable with. I think a lot of the animosity comes from a feeling that PC MSFS is being somewhat held back by the addition and subsequent issues that Xbox MSFS has indirectly introduced (not a sentiment I share). On the flip side: FS2020 has become _far_ more popular since launching on Xbox & surely that's a good thing for all Flight Simmers?

@@Huddison The one thing that no one appears to be aware of is the lack of uptake of MSFS 2020 on Xbox. If I look at the raw figures of some basics like logbook hours flown it's immediately apparent that PC simmers take it far more seriously. The 50, 100, 500 & 1,000 flight logbooks from PC & Xbox are night and day with Xbox users either treating MSFS as a part time arcade game and or simply only on it due to Gamepass access and giving them all a "hired" game as long as they make their Gamepass payments each month. It's my belief that the vast majority who "started" out on MSFS on Xbox either have deleted it or rarely use it because it is not a game but a simulator. 1,000 Logbook hours on Xbox is 0.01% On PC it is 9.8% (which is still pathetic)

@@theaustralianconundrum I think those findings may be inherent due to the Flight Simulator PC heritage. I know plenty of Xbox Simmers in my Discord server alone, that take their Flight Simming _very_ seriously and are more habitual in their hobby than many PC Simmers (often including myself!).

This delay, from a company with massive resources, 4 years after the release of their game/sim, shows huge incompetence and proves that Microsoft/Asobo dont know what they're doing. Frankly speaking, this doesn't bode well for FS 2024.
