Thank you for sharing this solution. Worked well on setting up the rotary encoder on my Virpil TM v3 throttle as a trim wheel. I may play around with the settings a bit but the settings you demonstrated seem to be working pretty well.

Late response, but Thank-you! I couldn't get Authentikit to install (something to do with not having the rights to install into the correct directory), so I reverted to this, and it works well on my Honeycomb Bravo after a bit of fiddling. The bit which could have done with more explanation was how to set up VJoy in MSFS. When I tried to scan for the trim wheel in VJoy, it initially tried to find the Bravo mapping. Had to come out of MSFS and reboot it for it to identify the V.Joy button 1. It's made the whole trimming experience 10 times better.

Finally gotten around to doing this. Worked quite well. The Bravo does seem to trigger so fast that it's hard to get single taps. Unless someone has some values that worked for them. What I did for now is map one of the up/down hats on the Alpha to do single tap and use that for fine control.

I'm personally inclined to actually map my Bravo trim wheel to an analog axis despite it being an encoder. I don't currently fly anything with an autopilot and it's easier to have the wheel be very responsive while doing that. If you're looking at 1:1 movement you are limited to something like .5 degree precision without setting up something for fine adjustments though. Setting up a curve so that the wheel actually turns more at the extremes might be an interesting idea since maybe precision isn't going to be as important at the far ends of the scale and then you could have more precision in the middle. Another interesting option is something like MobiFlight now that it supports joysticks. With that you circumvent all the MSFS input quirks as it speaks directly the sim. Could maybe even combine it with another tool like Joystick Gremlin. I've also played around with Autohotkey because you could program it to handle the trim wheel really precisely but unfortunately it seems to handle joystick input poorly so it isn't a good option.

@@At0micGarden While it's unfortunate that the repeat rate needs to be slower for VR, it still does work. I fly exclusively in VR and use this setup for my trim wheel.

@@waltersbg Same, I’m using a reverb G2. It’s hard to go back to non-VR! It does work fairly well, just feels a little squishy and laggy. Tolerable, though! It would be cool if something like this got on the development roadmap for the game.

with analogue, the best thing to do is to manually trim for level flight and only enter and exit autopilot modes while flat and level. Thats the only compromise that works for me.

Hi friend and greetings from Grand Rapids, Michigan. WOW!...couldn't believe i came across your video tonight. Just purchased the Honeycomb A&B a few weeks ago and was 'concerned' about the trim wheel on the Bravo. As a Commercial Pilot and CFI-I, I certainly know the behavior of a trim wheel (...or crank) and was rather disappointed in the action of it on the Bravo. As such, I'm very interested in trying your discovered solution to this situation, but first...wanted to reach out to you to see if there are any updates to your "fix" as your video states it is 2 years old. A lot can happen/change in two years. FYI, I'm using X-Plane 12 on a medium to high end Windows PC. Looking forward to your thoughts. Best regards, Randy

Here is a small change that can make the TW move faster or slower: Advanced TrimWheel Settings for X-Plane 11 There is a setting that can be edited in X-Plane 11 to vary the sensitivity of the Trim Wheel output. With the Default Setting of 80msec (set by DTA before shipping), you can edit the appropriate .acf file (every plane has its own) and set the value in the line to: “acf/_elev_trim_time 7.0”. You can increase that value to make the trim move slower or decrease to make it faster. For the stock C172 the value 7.0 is perfect and works just like the real deal. Using these settings, you still need to configure the Trim Wheel inside the SETTINGs window of X-Plane to ==> Elevator Trim UP - Elevator Trim Down or Pitch Trim UP - Pitch Trim Down. Bobby B. Hi. I followed your video very closely, configuring the joystick gremlin for Bravo B throttle. In the end I couldnt get Vjoy to respond to the trim wheel inputs within the gtremlin app nor within MSFS (I tried various inputs within MSFS as well - eg. used input 1 and 2 to align with the Gremlin app., but to no avail. Do you haver any suggestions on how to troubleshoot (ps - I also activated the profile before checking things). Thanks in advance.

Off the top of my head, I can't think what would be wrong. I know VJoy works in MSFS. But I haven't been using the method shown in this video for quite a long time. As mentioned in the pinned comment, I have switched to using the Authentikit Tuning App. It works at least as well as what I showed here and is simpler. I recently acquired a Bravo quadrant and I’m disappointed in the trim wheel. I had a CH yoke and used one of the analog levers as trim and it worked like a dream. I could remap to one of the levers but it defeats the purpose. It seems I’m spending more time fiddling than flying now.

I don't use Win 11 (yet) but what I've read is that for Win 11 you need to use an older version of vJoy. Try version 2.1.9.

@@waltersbg Thanks I got the older version to install though seeing different options in the Joystick Gremlin to that in your video. Selected the Double Tap, chosen Macro then vJoy from the list but do not see any pull down menus or Button 1 like yours. I see Ac tion Settings [vJoy] then below that Macro Settings and a tickbox for Exclusive then a pull down list below that with selections of None, Count, Tiggle and Hold. The lack of trim ruins MSFS and Id be tempted to buy FSUIPC just to allow the custom options for trim I am aware of

@@chrisibbotson6367 I'm still using the same version of joystick gremlin that I had when I made the video, so I don't know if things have changed, but I think you might just be missing a step. If you look at my video at 24:45, it sounds like what you are describing. Until you add a new action, highlight it in the list, and select vJoy in the action settings drop down menu, you will not see the options to select vJoy Device 1 and the button 1. If you watch for 20 seconds starting at 24:45, you'll see how those options show up for me. ONE THING TO NOTE, is that if you really just want to accelerate the button presses (or make the it act like an analog trim wheel), then you don't need my solution. My solution is to give the two different speeds, depending on how fast you move the wheel. Authentikit has come out with a free app that can not only adjust digital trim wheel sensitivity but optionally make a digital trim wheel look like an analog trim wheel (axis) to the sim. I rewatched your video carefully this morning and see options I had missed to show vJoy buttons etc. I chose the Bravo button 23 for example which is one on the trim wheel and assigned it to say vJoy button 1, followed your pause etc macro settings, saved profile and added same buttons to elevator trim up or down in the vJoy options in MSFS control settings. I am seeing such slow movement on the trim wheel exactly like default. I activated the profile as per your video, also checked the inputs and selected the bravo and vJoy and see flashing lights on the bravo buttons but nothing on the vJoy. I did also watch Marks videos on Simhanger channel and downloaded Authentikit etc and followed his tutorial and I am seeing the same thing, vJoy simply isnt appearing to do anything sadly. I also disabled the two buttons for trim up and down from the Bravo controls as per Marks video and get no movement of the trim wheel in the sim, using Authentikit or Joystick Gremlin. Re-enabling the bravo controls results in slow trim movement again.

Update: I managed to get the input viewer to show the flashing key presses on the Bravo and also Button 1 or 2 on the vJoy but its not being pushed through to the sim. Checked sim settings and vJoy has Nose up trim and Nose down set to the appropriate button in the vJoy settings. Got this far by uninstalling Authentkit and netframework 5. I also reinstalled vJoy. Might try Authentikit again though the interface does not like scaling features of Windows which need enabled otherwise text, icons etc so small at 4K. Need to go back to 100% so that the UI displays the options otherwise they overlap if a higher scale factor used

It's amazing to me the degree that MSFS20 has such problems, and the people have to go to such great lengths just to fly it. I have both sims, and rarely actually fly in MSFS. XP12 is much better, and a lot more realistic flight dynamics.

As detailed and nice as this is, the results are not that good :( Why have i spent $300 on a damn Honeycomb Bravo when the trim wheel doesnt even work damnit. Its like half of the reason i bought it! I almost feel like doing a return on this.
