I’d be very surprised if you don’t get one of these for yourself. Benchmade has a winner here, maybe the perfect all-purpose EDC Knife. Thanks Rob, I certainly won’t be selling mine.

Yep. It's fantastic! Possibly THE best Benchmade in a decade. Mine gets thin down behind the edge and the M4 is perfection. Ergonomics are on point and even the jimping provides some traction though it's no Spyderco. Great knife! The only problem is it has brought to light just how much better my Stryker 908 carbon fiber/M4 blade grind geometry could be with a similar blade profile! Imagine THAT! This blade in the Stryker handle frame! Schweeet! Hey! Where's my torx bits?

I have the Ritter knife also with M390, just under 3 1/2." This knife is gorgeous. I have several Benchmades, and I have never had a Benchmade that I didn't love. However, I have never owned a CPM M-4 blade, so I am eager for that. Handle is so superb. The blade length is longer like I like, finger guard and action look fine, excellent lock, and even the blade and handle color matches. Only thing I'm not crazy about is red layers, but I may grow to like them. I gotta get this one.

Thanks for the review. I am in the process of trying to get one. That grey and black with the red liners and barrel spacers is a great look. They did a fantastic job on that knife. After handling it I bet you want one. Knife is a perfect EDC knife. Look forward to next review.

Love the video Rob. Got to get me one of these. I still have the limited production version with the jade/natural G10 handles and M4 blade with grey cerakote. Number 86/500. I really want to sell it and buy this one but boy am having a hard time letting it go. I’d be able to carry this one where as the limited one I own I’m afraid to carry it. It’s like a catch 22. Always a new knife coming out I find myself “needing” lol. I’m still waiting for the Cold Steel AD-10 to come back so I can grab that. I have the AD-15 already. If I sold my limited freek I could probably pay for this freek and the AD-10 considering their selling for like 350 to 400 dollars which is just crazy, feel bad even listing it for that much. Decisions decisionssss... also I agree with what you said and your stance on Benchmade. Drama is the “fad” these days. Everyone always up in arms over something.

Watched a video on this knife on some channel where a guy is saying that m4 steel is problematic, primary edge burned, cooked at factory and that it takes 14 sharpenings to get to the good steel. I imagine that could happen to some knives due to the belt needing a change but I doubt it's a problem with all the freek models. What's your thoughts on the m4 steel? Could it be possible that Benchmade stuff up their knives like this? Thanks
@TheApostleP3 жыл бұрын
I haven’t seen that video, Dragan. But I do know that CPM-M4, if processed correctly, does require a different order of operations than most manufacturers use on other steels, as well as special attention to the composition and condition of abrasives, like you mentioned. That said, it also has inherently high “red hardness,” meaning you’d have to burn it pretty badly before it would lose performance. It has definitely not been my experience that Benchmade handles it incorrectly. Quite the contrary in fact. I’ve sharpened many of their knives in M4, and it routinely fights to the death. I’m not saying there couldn’t be a knife here or there that got overheated by a frustrated operator on a worn out belt, but it’s definitely not the rule.

Hall of Fame for a clone? Yeah, it’s a great knit! But I’m wondering what makes it ok for Benchmade to copy Doug Ritter’s blade design when you condemn Chinese makers for copying well known knife designs? Doug Ritter is an icon who has done so much for the knife community with his Knife Rights organization. Buy his work & it helps fund Knife Rights. Me? I’m buying from the original designer rather than the copycat so I bought a Ritter RSK Mk1. Every time I see a Freek I’m reminded of how unethical Benchmade is for copying Doug Ritter’s design.
@TheApostleP5 жыл бұрын
Joel Hansen Seriously, Joel? The blade vaguely shares the same general shape. It’s a knife. It has a blade. Both have belly, a thumb ramp and a slightly curved spine. They’re both saber ground flat. Come to think of it, there are roughly 18,000 other knife blades infringing on Doug Ritter’s idea! Oh, the humanity!!! Oh... wait... did somebody say that blade shape was around before Doug Ritter was born?! I guess he goes from plaintiff to defendant in the blink of an eye 😖

Who's buying Benchmades anymore?
@TheApostleP5 жыл бұрын
basp 2005 I can’t speak for retailers, but as for my consignment sales, Benchmade models are among the top 3 fastest selling brands, as well as having the top resale value as a percentage of original web price. For users and collectors who appreciate actual utility and cutting performance, Benchmade is still very hard to beat. For “enthusiast collectors” who are impressed by exotic materials and features of the day which have dubious utility, Benchmade isn’t necessarily as attractive as other brands. They don’t make great Instagram “knife crack.” They make great knives.
