One point Peter, an ADF guage doesn't give you a magnetic heading to an NDB. It gives you a bearing from your nose. However, on some ADF's it can do that, but the standard one such as in the A2A C172 doen't do that, it just gives a bearing from the nose of the plane. Hope that helps :)

Nice tutorial. I did a stream last night based on your first Plan G video. I ended up flying in low clouds with zero visibility and only NDBs for reference. That was a really rough flight. I was surprised I didn't end u flying upside down. lol I used a bunch of techniques I picked up from your videos. Thanks. :)

At last!! Plan G, VOR's NDB's, DME's and the a2a C172 all in the one tutorial. Thank you. Using plan G for a month or so now and had no idea about the "show radial" option. Doh! This combined with the details on the a2a radiostack is a complete game changer for me. I know a can just plug in and use GPS, its just me I dont like using GPS. If Im totally lost and without hope then Ill use it :P. Anyway awesome video, looking forward to part 2. :-D Thank you.

hi, very nice tutorial - I bought a ndb vor simulation software from fspilotshop some time ago and you can use it to practice the workings of ndb and vor s it is excellent software and retailed at about 50 usd. i ve used for several years now and it teaches what you need to understand it.

Nice video. Don't forget to identify your navaids before tracking them. Absolutely crucial IRL, but guards against mistakes in FSX too :)
@NeonsStyleHD10 жыл бұрын
Interception angles for VOR's are best kept to 30 deg and as you close in on it you begin to reduce it so you make a smooth transition without zig zagging. A good tip with turns to a heading is to start your roll out 10 deg before the desired heading and you''ll roll out on the desired heading.

Oh yea, sorry, I did mean that, its directional in relation to the aircraft, sorry If I said otherwise, ill annotate that part. thanks for spotting that!

Not sure if this video is for your benefit or ours? Would be more helpful if you periodically showed the flight plan and how it relates to each radial your tracking. After awhile I got lost trying to follow your intended course. Still good stuff though. Happy Landings!

Nice clear explanation of the VOR radials. Enjoyed, Thanks.

Nice video, Peter. I noticed something you said that could lead to confusion. You said that if the arrow on the VOR gauge is pointing upwards, you're going to the VOR. The arrow pointing upwards just means that the selected radial is going to the VOR from your present position. You actualy could have been flown to the west (away from the VOR) but still with that arrow pointing upwards. So this arrow tells you nothing about whether you're flying to or away from a VOR. To figure this out you have to check that your heading is the same as the selected radial, since you can have the needle absolutly centered, but flying in the opposite direction. This is called reverse sencing and is a pretty confusing thing. In that case you have to turn away from the needle to get it centered if you want to track it.

Hi Peter, very informative video and thanks for sharing! One question, could we have your hardware and software specs? I browsed in your other videos and didn't find those. I'd like to use the same scenery as in this video, do you have other tools for lights for example, and do you use FSUIPC or any FSX tweak tool? I just ordered an Asus i7 4770, 16gb 1600mhz, nv gtx 650. I'll order an SSD later. I would expect to got at least same performance as you. Now is your performance in this video reduced by Fraps recording in background? Thanks in advance and great work! Ben.

Hi Benoit, good to hear from you, all my specs and mods should be in the 'About' section of my youtube page.

@PeterMatthess9 жыл бұрын
TunisianEnergy it is normal FSX but back in the day I used a shader to ad more contrast and colour into the image, can't remember what I used now but I would not recommend it, I would recommend Mogwaisoft Shade for FSX, its a great tool and allows you to custom tweak your FSX colours, contrast, etc

@Larry Luffel I usually do show plan G overlayed on the bottom right or left hand side of the screen but its not always possible since my laptop needs an internet connection and its on the very edge of the wifi zone. You didn't find it beneficial? its a pretty basic introduction so if you have been simming for a while or even a rl pilot this would be abc to you I am sure.
@stewhobson974810 жыл бұрын
Peter, may I ask how you overlay Plan-G over the FSX screen? Just downloaded Plan-G--it's amazing!
@PeterMatthess10 жыл бұрын
I do it in my editing program just for the youtube video, it's not like that by default.
@stewhobson974810 жыл бұрын
Peter Matthess I see...that's too bad. Was hoping there might be a way to overlay it, but guess not. Did you notice my other question at another video you posted? I've created a flight plan with Plan-G, but the manual is *very* vague about how to load it into FSX, since FSX reads .pln files, but not .plg files. Any help?
@PeterMatthess10 жыл бұрын
You can load any plans INTO FSX, plan g just monitors your current position and alt etc etc and give you a host of good navigational data that supplements your FSX flying. It's more meant for VFR though, for Ifr something like pfpx is what you need.
@stewhobson974810 жыл бұрын
Peter Matthess That was my original question--how to load a flight plan created with plan-g into FSX.

does anyone elses a2a 172 float to the left? during climbs and cruse bug?... or is this just the p-factor being simmulated?
@PeterMatthess10 жыл бұрын
not sure, I've had that sometimes and it could be related to your CG, depending on which fuel tank has more weight in it, or the weight of the pilot slightly off center. thats a question for the A2A forums I think :)
@philliponcarbs10 жыл бұрын
great point i wasn't thinking that far. but ill try to flop the difference and see what happens. agreed :)

You dont show people how to set up the Fsx with G plan what must i do to get the Fsx sync with Gplan
@PeterMatthess10 жыл бұрын
The way that works is you simply install PlanG, then on the top of the main bar there is a connect and unconnect button, hit that when your FSX is running, and it will sinc with FSX and show you where you are in the world so you can do navigation. If you are doing it across two computers (like I do) you need to buy FSUIPC and FS Wide client to make the computer-to-computer connection work, and you need to share hard drives across the network and stuff like that.
@LieorDie2410 жыл бұрын
Okay sorry it worked but it wasnt the right thing for me because i looked for a free tool moving map inside fsx and that is not possible i guess.
@PeterMatthess10 жыл бұрын
not 'inside' FSX, but you can fly FSX in windowed mode and tab out every now and then.
@JohnAlexanderDavis10 жыл бұрын
Just a few comments, not trying to hate... - if you're not looking out the windows and depending in your instruments, you're not flying vfr. - it will help your presentation of concepts if you make some notes, the bumbling with numbers around vor radials only confuses your audience - be comfortable with brief moments of silence; you need not always be speaking - refrain from referring to specific cockpit instruments as "thingies", it lessens your credibility as a purveyor of information that fellow simmers would find useful. Great content overall, I'm sure you'll be making great videos in no time.
