I have to admit that for many years I too lived in sort of a music bubble, being a musician myself playing with many bands I should have expanded my musical horizons but when you're growing up you kind of just listen to what you're used to and people seldom stray. But I started listening to more hip hop and rap and jazz and wow was I surprised. There is so much great music out there. A lot of it from bands and musician that are not well known.

Queen is a British rock group formed in 1970 consisting of: Freddie Mercury - Lead vocalist and piano Brian May - Lead guitar and vocals Roger Taylor - Drummer and vocals John Deacon - Bass guitar Queen was one of the most influential bands of the 20th century. They produced 15 studio albums and multiple hit singles which reached gold, platinum, and even double-platinum status, plus played live concerts all over the world to huge sold-out performances (in Rio they performed before 250,000). Each member of Queen was not only a talented musician but each of the 4 members was also a talented composer. Freddie is the composer of Bohemian Rhapsody. It was included on Queen's fourth album "A Night At The Opera" and released as a single in 1975. The song was then re-released in 1992 after being included in the movie, "Wayne's World". You have probably heard Queen songs without realizing that they were performed by Queen. Queen songs are rather ubiquitous throughout the world. Have you ever heard "Another One Bites The Dust", 'We Will Rock You", or "We Are The Champions"? Yes, they were all hits by Queen.

In addition to their song list. You did forget one that made it to number one in 28 countries. That song was called Radio Ga-Ga written and composed by Roger Taylor and sung by Freddy mercury of course. It became a world wide phenomenon at the AID concert which blew away all other groups attending and performing there. One group even went as far as to try and sue Queen for taking the spotlight away from them when they came on to perform their song list. Which goes to show that jealousy from another rock group would be their downfall soon after. Farouk Bulsara (Freddy Mercury) will live on in the fan's memories as the one of the most unique individuals that helped propel the movement to allow diverse sexuality into the spotlight. UK and San Francisco being the most notable for diverse partners. A truly incredible group for such a tumultuous and unstable era.

Great reaction!! Queen didn’t like to explain the lyrics to their songs and wanted the listener to be able to interpret them. Many people believe this song is about Freddie coming to terms with his sexuality and accepting who he truly was. When he says “I just killed a man” I believe he means that he killed the man he used to be, the straight man he’s been pretending to be. The man his parents wanted him to be. When he says “Mama didn’t mean to make you cry” because his family was religious and maybe he couldn’t be the son they wanted. “Goodbye everybody, I’ve got to go and leave you all behind and face the truth” In the middle section they sing “Bismillah will you let me go, no we will not let you go, let him go.” Bismillah is arabic for In the name of god. Then he says “So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye.” In his Zoroastrian religion, there was a time when people would be stoned to death and being gay would be a sin. The last lines “Nothing really matters, nothing really matters to me.” I believe is him giving permission to everyone to be their true self and love whoever they want because it doesn’t matter. “ Anyway the wind blows.” Listen to the lyrics again and see if you agree.

Yours was a really enjoyable reaction to watch. You obv know a great song when you hear one, lol. This song went to #1 2x. Once in 1975/76 and again in 1991/92. Queen are lead singer: Freddie Mercury on piano, Bass = John Deacon (some vocals), lead guitar = Brian May (vocals) and Drums = Roger Taylor (vocals). They ALL wrote #1 hits. I REALLY hope you go down this road and get into this group. You will not be disappointed. This song came out in 1975... the song was recorded on analog tape. 24 track I believe. No autotune... it did not exist at the time. The band is AMAZING live. Their live performances were never clones of their studio work... they loved to change songs up when they performed live.

Loved your genuine reaction and appreciation of music. Queen has a large catalogue of songs you have heard but don't realize it. Stadium anthems such as "We will Rock You" and "We are the Champions". Freddie Mercury (lead singer), Dr. Brian May (lead guitar), Roger Taylor (drums) and John Deacon (bass guitar) all wrote #1 hits.

Best available backstory is that this was a narrative Freddie built over several years arising from his struggle with his sexuality (in the early ‘70s) knowing he needed to accept he was gay but also knowing that at that time he could lose everything: “Mama, I just killed a man” (himself and his world as he knew it).

Every one was college educated. Freddie had a degree in graphic arts, Brian May (guitar) has a PhD in Astrophysics and collaborated with NASA in the mid 00s. John Deacon (bass guitar) has a degree in electronics and also invented the Deacy Amp, which was used exclusively with May's Red Special guitar. Roger Taylor (drums) has a degree in biology, after switching from dentistry, which he found, in his words, "boring." John Deacon played the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in 1992 and appeared in the video "No One But You", released in 1997 as a tribute to Mercury. He retired afterwards and leads a low-key life. He was reportedly crushed by Mercury's death and said without Mercury, there was no Queen.

This was Freddie Mercury's magnum opus. He demonstrates his superiority as a singer. I challenge anyone to name another singer that has the range, ability, or control of voice that Freddie Mercury showcases in Bohemian Rhapsody. I believe that if you were to make an unbiased list of the best vocalists of all-time, Freddie Mercury would easily be top 3 and likely #1.

This is a Rock Opera. No one wanted them to do it. The record company thought it was weird and too long. Queen decided they would walk if the record company wouldn't let them do it. No one is ever prepared. Freddie Mercury was a theatrical genius! Dr. Brian May is an Astrophysicist and he and his father built that guitar he's playing when he was 16 in his garage. Freddie had a degree in Graphic design, did their costumes and Queens Logo. John Deacon, the bassist is talented as an electrical engineer and did all of their instruments and lighting. The drummer, Roger Taylor studied dentistry but has a degree in biology. Sadly Rogers 17 yr old son Rufus played Under Pressure for Taylor Hawkins in A. America in March of 2022 during his last concert while Taylor sang Under Pressure at his last Foo fighters Concert before he overdosed late that night.

This is THE BAT rock song of all time. The lead singer, Freddie Mercury, wrote and produced this entire song. If you really want to know more about the screw watch the movie Bohemian Rhapsody which is a biopic. Freddie Mercury died in 1992 complication of aids. But the remaining members are still alive today and finally they were all brilliant.

Freddie wrote it as a trilogy. The lead guitarist is Dr Brian May (astrophysicist). All the guys are song-writers, all sing, and no-one regarded themselves as above the others. Freddie was, in my opinion, one of the greatest voices of the 20th century. He sang ballads and opera as well as rock. He played guitar as well as piano. Green Day play this recording before they appear on stage, and their audiences sing along with it. You can find that on yt.

Several have mentioned their LIVE AID set.. it's a must! The entire group went through hell for 10 years after this song hit big. 10 years and a trip to hell later, their cohesiveness outlived the hell and they were even more brilliant than ever. Sadly, Freddie Mercury (lead vocals) passed from the aids virus not all that long after the Live Aid performance.

Absolutely love watching you dive into the Queen rabbit hole! Here's a few amazing facts about Queen, the lead guitar Brian May hand made his guitar " The Red Special " with his dad from things around his house like a piece from the fire place mantel. Another fact is each member of the band is a University graduate! Brian May, lead guitar, is a Astrophysicist! Freddie Mercury has a degree in Graphic design. Roger Taylor drums, has a degree in Biology and studied to be a Dentist. And last but not least, John Deacon base guitar, is a Electrical engineer! They're as brilliant off the stage as on it! Keep them coming, please and thank you! 😊

@@NoblesseObligeify The version of Love of My Life at Rock n Rio 1985 is profound because the audience was almost entirely non-English speaking and they sing the song to Freddie. They adore him and Brian and the size of crowd, well it's astounding. It gives the experience another layer. And because of the crime in Brazil, Queen had to fight to go there. They were warned they would not be safe and the government would not be able to protect them, but they knew their music sold well there so they went and the experience was something unforgettable.
