FTL Hard mode, WITH pause, Viewer ships! The Spider Swarm! 1st run

This will be a slightly shorter stream today, so we're jumping right into another crazy modded FTL ship created by the endlessly creative Mathchamp: this is the Spider Swarm! And, HOLY COW, is that a TON of spiders?!? This ship has a 36 room teleporter, level 4 clone bay and teleporter, and ALL the spiders. I have never seen a boarding ship like this one, so let's see what she does! This mod requires Hyperspace and Multiverse to work, so anyone who wants to play it, that's what you'll need. This is one CRAZY ship, let's see if we can get the GG, cookie time with the most boarders we've ever had!

If you have fruit flies, they can lay eggs in sink drains. I suggest in any room you want to get rid of them, take a disposable plastic cup, fill it like 2 inches with vinegar (apple cider works best) and one drop of liquid dish soap (like Dawn) which will remove the waters surface tension and make them drown. Then cover it with plastic wrap and poke in small holes (a little bigger then you think they should be) not touching the sides so they can go in but not fly out and obviously not climb out. It works very very well.

If I'm remembering this right there should be a hotkey for crew abilities. I think it defaults to P? Try clicking the crew and hitting P. Maybe that will make controlling spiders a little easier.

You are correct about the hotkey, but it doesn't work the same in this mod. Because it's a special ability that works like mind control, it's very clunky in it's functionality. I talked about this more when I first played the Spider Crew in the initial release of the Multiverse mod that added this race. When you press the "control spider" ability button, the crew you've selected gets deselected because of some FTL code thing, so it becomes quite clunky to control your spider crew.

Yeah, bots have been taking over lately! I try to clear them out each morning before I stream, though. This ship was super fun, Mathchamp comes up with the CRAZIEST builds!

Whats the issue with being balanced to normal? If you're playing on hard, you should expect it to be hard. A lot of people dont play on hard even in vanilla because, as the name suggests, it gets a lot harder, to a point some people consider too much. There's nothing I've seen that can't be out-skilled, there's never forced damage or random crew losses unless you chose an option in an event about it, and there's always a way out that doesn't involve blue options. A lot of it comes down to experience with the new material, don't pretend you've never gotten mad at the vanilla game cause it put you up against a really hard ship. You're also the guy who complained that disallowing players to cheat and abuse a bug in the game code to bypass defense drones with hacking was a bad change because it makes things harder (that should have been that way anyways in vanilla). Maybe your issue isn't mods but the game itself, considering most of your complaints are things that are more or less applicable to the vanilla game as well, or are elsewise preventable through reading event text or experience (of which you need a lot of for vanilla too).

I guess my issue with Multiverse being balanced for normal (which is, I believe, your main point in this post) is that most people who still play FTL regularly (ie. streamers, hard core FTL fans) find normal to be trivial. I agree with your statement that a lot of the challenge I encountered with Multiverse stemmed from unfamiliarity with the mod. However, there are many things about this mod that make it MORE unbalanced than vanilla FTL. (Vanilla FTL is unbalanced against the player, as well, since it was designed to be a punishing game). The event that forced a fight in sector 3 with a 4 shield enemy with weapons comparable to the final boss: completely unbalanced. That was changed to be optional by the devs after my complaint, I believe. The number of enemy ships with multiple OP systems (hacking, cloaking, mind control, teleporter) is WAY higher than vanilla FTL. A viewer went through and did a comparison of number of ships with cloaking between one Vanilla run and one MV run and found that MV had DOUBLE the number of ships with cloaking. Now, this was a limited sample size, but I would guess that isn't far off the average with my experience in MV. That one change (making the OP systems more likely to appear on enemy ships), adds so much time and difficulty to each MV run that it becomes more tedious and punishing to me. Could I play MV on normal? Sure, but many of the same problems would persist, I'd just have more scrap to throw at the problem. I'm glad this mod is out there and I look forward to see it when it's completed, but in it's current form, IMO, it is not balanced.
