How the Gaelic tongue stirs the depths of the soul and forever connects the exiled hearts of Alba to a common cause. This song is hauntingly surrel and stirs the chords deep within the soul.

Unite? in what sense? Vote SNP/ Labour/Greens where we need MORE diversity because we're missing that secret ingredient? Or should i say, we should look more like the South of England ...or London to be more precise? Are you off your feckin Rocker?

Strikingly beautiful. The best political protest song since Parcel of Rogues. Even when the Gaelic lyrics are translated into English they say even more that The Clearances Again (which is a splendid song). Well done; all of you. And may providence see that your way of life prevails.

Beautiful! I'm ashamed to say, thank you for the English translation. I've lived in Yorkshire since I was in my 20s, but in my pensioner years, still hold on to the dream of getting to see my homeland once more.The original clearances must have been devastating, knowing they could never return.

That's funny you should say that. My sister's DNA just came back and we were shocked that it's showing as much as 3/4 Irish and the rest Scottish. We are Scottish. Scottish DNA was pinpointed to Stornoway, no surprise there as my gran was born and raised there. The surprise was just how much Irish was in there though, although we knew there would be a lot from my gran and grandad off of my dad's side...point is though, the DNA test breaks down to regions in Ireland too and it's going back to Inishowen. I'm sure that's North Donegal? I'm waiting on mine coming back. So we're planning a wee visit next spring :)

Well, welcome to North Inishowen 😊 the fishermen got washed over to the western Isles sometimes in bad weather. And the ferry used to leave Glasgow to Moville. Scottish folk holidays in Culdaff town for the Marquee festival.

Really a beautiful song but a very sad message. We spent a few holidays on the Hebrides and love the traditional culture and way of life. So sad all this societies disappear. Here, in the Netherlands, fishing is reduced a lot last year by the goverment. The sea is now full of windmills for energy. The culture of old fishing villages disappears very quickly. So sad. 😢

From a Scot who has lived and worked up here in Iceland for over 20 years was deeply moved by this fine song and vid. Having seen a bidding for fishing rights and quota system systematically ruin small fishing communities in the Westfjords that was imposed by career politicians without a clue in Rekyjavík I can sympathise with your cause. Full disclosure, I'm a card-carrying member of the SNP.
@cmcc3721 Жыл бұрын
Card carrying member of the SNP? Shows how much you are out of touch with the general population of Scotland in 2023. I'm all for Independence but i ABSOLUTELY refuse to vote for a party filled to the brim with career politicians that ONLY use the independence card to get re elected. Anyone that has taken the time understands that Indy is at the bottom of the Scottish Nationalists list of priorities since Salmond was ousted. An absolute disaster of a party for a young generation of Scots.

Was deeply saddened to see Mr. Salmond's tribulations, and grateful that he delivered the 2014 referdum. Like yourself I have a general dislike for all career politicians.@@cmcc3721

Hello, could anyone provide a bit more context? Does this refer to the 17-18 century clearances or is it a reference to some current initiative or law that will forcibly remove the owners from their land? I live in central Europe and have no knowledge of this...
@raemondbradford1629 Жыл бұрын
Hopefully someone else could explain more about this, but I believe it is related to protests about flawed attempts to protect marine areas (by creating some Highly Protected Marine Areas - HPMAs) around Scotland which would have badly affected coastal fishing communities.

As long as the Highlands and Islands are seen as a playground for the wealthy English and others,it continue to be abused. Westminster can stop all protests by flooding the place with yacht owners, deerhunters, military bases and other English only pleasure pursuits. At the same time, make any last vestiges of Gaidhlig life and culture increasingly difficult and marginalised whilst promoting an influx of part time white settlers in the Gaidhlig heartlands. This is not accidental, but is at the core of colonial policy for centuries. Stronger and stronger resistance needed at every level, but do not rely on help from the Scottish puppet Assembly in Edinburgh.
