The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

@D. R. After the battle of the red ring there were literally no legions left to win the rest of the war should they have continued it. Sure the Dominion was weakened and would have been easily defeated, but the emperor had no army to do it. In Skyrim he just accepts dying hoping the next guy finishes the job for him and asking the player to take care of the conspirators so they don't get in the way.

It's natural for the Empire to have been in more conflicts, and it could even be reasoned that they are now more experienced. Precedence becomes less valid after a change in position as radical as abandoning millennia-long isolationism, and adopting a relatively new involvement with more than two other races.

You can't just say the entire Dominion wants to be immortal. Ayrenn was dedicated to protecting Tamriel. She ran away to explore the world, and dedicated herself to unifying Tamriel under the Aldmeri banner for the sake of peace and prosperity. It was her brother Naemon that wanted to usurp the throne and restore the Altmer to their Aedra forms. When he passed through the white gold tower in the orrery, it corrupted him because it knew he would destroy it. When Ayrenn passed through the tower in the orrery, she came out blessed, because she truly wishes to protect the towers, and to protect nirn. She is the Dominion Tamriel needs.

Tiber Septim himself tried to conquer the Summerset Isle but even he could not achieve it in a fair fight. Imperial Navy was not even able to deploy troops on Summerset. So Tiber took the Numidium and nuked the whole island for no good reason at all. He was seeking power thats all. Nothing heroic about him nor empire. Tiber and His Empire killed lots of mer in that war with Numidium because Empire was weak against Dominion Navy. Mer never have been populated and fertile like men. Men always more populated but still could not took over Summerset in a fair fight. Thalmor did nothing wrong. They are basically correcting the fault of men which worshipping a ruthless, war criminal, mer hater, imperialist Tiber Septim as a god.

Out of all the humans. Nords and Imperials seem to be the main cast. They are not only very similar to one another but, they also speak about how "Due to us, mankind manage to make themselves a home out of the heart land". Since the fall of Septim Dynasty, it can be argued that it’s not as legitimate without the Blessing of Akatosh such as the Amulet of Kings. Yes I know the Amulet is destroyed to help Martin save Tamriel from Mehrunes Dagon. It interesting to note the Falk Firebeard says in Skyrim during the quest to destroy The Wolf Queens Spirit that had she succeeded in resurrecting herself, she would have been the legitimate ruler of Tamriel and revived the Septim Dynasty.

So while it is very plausible in the context of The Elder Scrolls, it is also something that could just not be brought into the games, thus not really being validated by the creators of The Elder Scrolls and consequently subject to being changed on a whim. How to make Speech worth it in 2 easy steps: 1. Convince Ulfric and Tulius/empire to go into a temporary team-up, making war against the Thalmor easier. 2. After said war is won, convince a peace treaty to be made: Skyrim rejoins the empire peacefully but Talos worship is unbanned and Ulfric gets support from the empire to become high king. Happy ending for everyone, except the Thalmor.

All the races should be allowed to form their own Independent States/Kingdoms, in their respective home provinces (Orisinium would become like a city state), and then they should all form a Coalition with free trade and mutual defense agreements to fight off Bandit/Pirate lords etc. or another potential invasion from Akavir or some other existential threat (eg. A 2nd Oblivion Crisis) But lets be honest Men and Mer will never sort out their differences, the bad blood just runs too far deep into their history.

I’ve thought plenty of times what if Tamriel turned into a Republic, so to speak, where for every 12 years a new ruler is voted on the throne, and the elder council becomes more of a congress and electoral college, and is expanded from the few dozen members to 4x that amount. Each province is independent in many ways, but holds to a treaty or guidelines so to speak as part of the republic. Idk maybe it’s a liberal oligarchy even.

I'm going to have to disagree on this one. As I've noticed from these videos you seem seem to kinda gloss over anything relating to Aryenn's character that's been expanded upon from Elder Scrolls Online. In it she's shown to be very complex, same with most if not all of the high elves whom I would think would've made much better leaders compared to the empire and a genocidal madman like septim who I've felt had the mindset of molag bal to be honest. Some of the things you've also not mentioned are the planemeld, the soulburst, Varen's part in it, Mannimarco's return or how Aryenn's forced to see her own older brother die in a senseless quest for power after her own sister in law become the veiled heritance queen. How she struggles to put together an alliance capable of withstanding the struggles of the challenges nirn faces, her own words. And then of course her same brother comes back as a lich which doesn't help matters either, she's also tortured by a certain Imperial sorcerer named Tharn who happens to be a bootlicking toadie for a very nasty sorcerer same one who was responsible for the soulburst in fact. Doesn't help that when the vestage tries to get her and every other leader to table to parlay all the other leaders refuse to cooperate as well.

After those were defeated and Alessia died, the few Ayleids that remained were hunted down by the Alessian Order, except for those who managed to escape to High Rock, Hammerfell, or Valenwood(These gradually died out). There is one remnant of the Falmer left on Tamriel and a miniscule amount is probably somewhere off on another continent of Nirn. Stating that the Chimer are merely the Dunmer is largely ignorant, it's called a transformation for a reason - their anatomy, physiology and psychology entirely changed due to the events that befell them in light of the Tribunal's actions. The aforementioned arrogance/narcissism of the Third Aldmeri Dominion will eventually be their simultaneous downfall, even Scott himself said this in the video. Note how I said "disappeared" and not "eradicated", well, none of their cultures and practices endured on Tamriel, regardless of whether there are tiny pockets of remaining and feigning representatives left. History sure does repeat itself when it comes to the Aldmer.

And all those provinces where pretty fucked at that point. I am not even mentioning Black marsh or Morrowind, because Hist doesn't care and Morrowind was fucked extra hard. Also, Dominion kicked ass? As far as I know, it is the Empire who retained control of the Whitegold tower. So that's a win for them. Emperor is still Emperor, Empire is still Empire. Dominion wanted to eradicate all human. They failed and were forced into a peace deal, trying to salvage at least something out of that war. If that war continued the Dominion would lose even more. And that's not theory and speculation. After the war, just Hammerfel absolutely destroyed the Dominion. Just imagine what the whole Empire could do.

I love your lore videos, however as a student of military history there is a major issue with the white gold concordat. That being if the dominion had the power or ability to defeat the empire and take control of tamriel, they wouldn't have signed it at all. What I can imagine happening is that the Dragonborn from Skyrim (The player) after all is said and done, could take up the mantle of Emperor and do a 'tiber septim 2: electric boogaloo'. I mean, there isn't really a reason saying that they can't (Unless you side with Ulfric). They're dragonborn, surely that must have some birthright within the empire to lead and to rule. After all, their empire was founded by a dragonborn and prospered most under the rule of a dragonborn.

The way I see it, they're both different sides of the same coin. Both are oppressive in their own way, just as a septim is a septim no matter what side it falls onto whenever you flip it. But if you were to ask me which banner I'd rather live under, it would definitely be the Empire's over the Aldmeri Dominion's. Most people cannot choose who they're born as. So if my soul were to be hurled into Mundus and I'd be made into a mortal being living on Tamriel, I'd rather be born into an independent state, or a part of the Empire. At least the Empire rules with religious and racial tolerance in their focus of conquering the provinces

But of course, they didn't have men (humans) to worry about at the time. I won't deny it, the humans are definitely at fault for the Thalmor's cruelty towards other humans. Some elves within the Dominion in the time of Skyrim were still alive when Tiber Septum invaded their homeland with the giant brass God and forced them into annexation. However, the Empire post Tiber Septim wasn't so bad. However, they were somewhat lazy, and it proved to be one of its biggest flaws. They couldn't maintain their hold.

I feel basically the same way. Ayrenn seems like genuinely nice person, kind even, and is at least more inclusive than the even more racist Veiled Hereitence, but her mission statement is still problematic. I like her on a personal level, and fight for the Dominion on my main in ESO because l like having a character that's a literal tiger-person, but I would never support the faction for complete dominance over all humans. Your also right about the Thalmor. They don't even want to rule, they want to destroy us all in their foolish and hubris-filled attempt to attain godhood. Not really all that different from Mannimarco when you think about it. Just a different method and on a larger scale than a single individual.

It also doesn't hurt for Ayrenn's case that, in addition to appearing reasonable compared to most other high elves, he's attractive, has a wonderful voice, and is the leader you get to meet earliest in the game, upon which you save her life and are immediately treated like a close friend with a "don't be so formal around me" attitude. Basically, there's a lot of personal reasons to like her because you kind of get buttered up right from the start. Plus, she has the coolest wingman ever in Raz, lol. This stuff makes it a bit harder for me to step back and judge the whole dominion objectively.

Once my Dragonborn assumes the throne left vacant by Titus Mede II's assassination, I have to say that my Empire is better fit to rule. In the 7th year of the second great war we route the entirety of the Aldmeri Dominion back to their little isles and the Thalmor are officially disbanded as none remain who ever bore that name. Then in the 8th year of my rule a new concordat is struck that restores Ysmir to the Tamrielic canon, guarantees civil liberties for every citizen of Tamriel regardless of race, abolishes slavery in any form and begins a reign of peace and unity that will last through the end of the fourth age. Forth Era 205 and beyond

The Aldmeri Dominion under Queen Ayrenn was one of the most promising reigns i've seen in all of Tamrielic history for the short time it lasted and what Tiber Septim did to the Summerset Isles with the Numidium is brutal and i hate that he's revered by so many people so much that he's given godhood. I don't blame the Thalmor for being keeping a grudge since then against the empire. What i don't condone is what the Thalmor have become and, to be fair, what the elves have been for most of their existance, but after the Third Era and the Great War, just so much more extremist. Again, i understand where they're coming from but i don't condone them. The elves have always hadthis sense of superiority against men, it's enough to think about the Direnni of High Rock and the nedes they enslaved but the other hand, The Imperials are two-faced oppressors who, when comfortable, cry as victims and when they're powerful, stomp you out. I don't and never will celebrate the Imperials. Of course, the matter is more complicated than this, for example, this doesn't account for the exploitation of Bosmer forced labour and the many, many incursions and raids into Valenwood that violated the Green Pact, destroyed tribes and families and forced the wood elves to build with materials that violated the Green Pact. The Bosmer never liked the Altmer rule over Valenwood For A Reason, especially when they moved the capital to Elden Root. SInce then, more atrocities from the Altmer against the Bosmer have continued to happen which can't be ignored. But since we can't pick and choose in which era each side would be a better ruler, i'd say that at the time of Skyrim, some 200 years into the 4th era, the Aldmeri Dominion, while having a point to its anger, is too shut off, too isolationist, too extremist and has shied away from what used to be Queen Ayrenn's vision of a united elven reign, while the Empire, while weak and obviously incapable of governing ALL of Tamriel, has managed to create a livable environment, where the populace can coexist under the same roof, even if they quarrel sometimes.
