One bit of evidence to take into account is how often the various elves breed, and therefore create a new generation. You measure your "closeness" to your ancestors by how many generations have passed, not time gap. Grandparents are still grandparents whether or not they're 50 or 500 years older than you. If the Altmer are the longest-lived elves, and they don't breed that often, that means there has been fewer generations of Altmer since time began. That would make them the closest to the Ehlnofey simply by having been fewer chances to distance themselves from the Ehlnofey than everyone else.

I agree. Even if the Maomer came from the Altmer, their genealogy has considerably changed. So with that said, they're an offshoot of Altmer, not Aldmer. And given Tolpal's discovery of the Dwemer, I believe that perhaps the Dwemer and Falmer may also be direct descendants of Aldmer as well, similar to the Altmer line, although of course not as close as the Altmer, given the Tundra of Skyrim and the underground of Morrowind are very different than what Old Aldmeris must've been. Which begs the question of what Aldmeris, if it truly existed, was really like. Since Aldmer depictions seem to have a more golden hue of sorts, and the Altmer take pride in purity, I'd say Summerset is likey a very similar habitat to what the Ancient/Mythical homeland of the Mer may have been like

There are versions of elves that can appear young for centuries untold, but change the same as the world around them. Some of these different versions even go from animal like hoofs and claws to hands and feet depending on if they spent the last century in the forest or the city. Its crazy I just rewatched your earlier Maormer videos yesterday. I think it would be cool if for the second great war the empire formed an alliance with the Maormer. A the enemy of my enemy is my friend kind of thing.

This could be an interesting solution to the Thalmor problem in TES:6. They would be fighting off an invasion by the Maormer and possibly wanting an alliance with whatever remains of the Empire..

I really like the idea that the Bosmer and Kajittii creation stories are true, and that the Dwemer, just like all the evidence seems to imply, were always in Resdayn. I think it makes perfect sense. And I love the idea of Old Ehlnofey actually being a sort of surviving chunk from the previous kalpa that then gets fought over and sundered. It would explain things like Umaril the Unfeathered and the Sky Forge. Similarly, I think it's very possible that the Maormer and the Altmer are both right: they are splinter groups of the non-Wandering Ehlnofey, and so both have just as much right to the claim of "pure decent". Any physical changes that may have occured between the two need not make them less "pure", since the Ehlnofey obviously have (or had) a huge potential for adapting to whatever environment they find themselves in, so who can say if the Maormer or the Altmer are more physically similar to the original Old Ehlnofey?

I think if we are to compare the geography of Nirn to Earth's, the fact that the warmest areas of Tamriel and the lands of the Maormer are basically the tropics, i think that the area south of Tamriel is filled with potential lands, just like we have the southern hemisphere.

I just blamed Lorkhan for where every race ended up, as he loved to hide parts of the old worlds behind.
@MrThatguyuknow4 жыл бұрын
It could be both: The Aldmer remained original since they were exiled early and obsessively spited all change to their identity. The Maomer embraced the sea fairing lifestyle and slowly changed from it. Both were the same, but the Aldmer were focused retaining their identity rather than the Moamer who saw themselves evolving it.

I just watched the Podcast, and the idea, that the Maormer, or their ancestors, the Aldmer, were easier to "mold" physically, coupled with your idea that the Developers could have used more polynesian inspiration to distinguish them more, and the information that, apparently, there exist sea elf colonies on other Islands, that turned their backs on Orgnum, the undying King of the sea elves, I now choose to believe, that there exist "rogue" colonies of Maormer, that evolved to resemble the description of "tropical" more, with more of a bronze hue to their skin (or whatever you'd call the skin tones commonly found in the native populations of the pacific Islands), but maybe still some reminders of their heritage, like pale eyes (or the ability to breathe under water, if the Maormer really can do so), and possibly a bit more polynesian "influence" on their culture.

The obvious response is always why invent business class when you can cast levitate etc. Why invent plumbing when you can cast fireball at a sceptic tank and cure disease on anyone with typhoid. Why invent guns when you have destruction. Why invent science when the ultimate truths are already walking around giving you shit, space travel has been and gone for the most part as the only truth out there was a pocket universe, mad gods and selfish stars who generally wish you had never happened anyway and the only race to make robots got disappeared. You make a cathedral spire, castle tower, skyscraper or launch platform for Saturn rocket launchers over centuriess of struggle to get closer to God or go to the temple and have it grant you amazing powaz?

Wow!!!! Late here, but jesus Scott you are an absolute fucking powerhouse with your takes on Tamrielic history. I think a lot of fans of TES like to keep lore relatively simple and face value (i.e. All Nedes came from atmora, all Elves came from Aldmer) but, as with real life history, things are never this simple with entire ancient proto-races of peoples (peoples as in Mer and Men both). I came to this video because I was curious about whether or not all Elves came from the Aldmer, because I had this sudden realization that certain races could not have evolved as much as they did in this short amount of time (See the Falmer with kingdoms and a very prosperous society before their demise). Of course Tamrielic races can evolve fast but from a biological standpoint I was very curious. There also seems to be, among the dominant races/empires of Tamriel, a LOT of propaganda claiming all races to be very simply related in order to create a “unity” between different races of Men or different races of Mer, and such, a violent hate of Mer from Men and vice versa. I am of the belief that certain elven races (Falmer, dwemer, bosmer etc) did NOT come from Summerset and rather had been on Tamriel since the dawn era, pointing to their respective origin stories. I’m really excited that TES fans are beginning to sort of dissect in-game propaganda from in-game oppressors. Amazing video!!!! You guys are my favourite channel to go to for this kind of thing.

I would absolutely love if the Maormer make a return in Elder Scrolls 6 but instead of as pirates or some other generic bad guys, they fight against the Aldmeri Dominion and the Thalmor not only because they view themselves as the rightful descendants of the Aldmer, but because the Aldmeri Dominion might want to destroy the actual world if the Tower Theory is correct

I personally want Elder Scrolls 6 to be in Summerset Isles. There is a lot of interesting lore there.
@captainzoltan77374 жыл бұрын
could you make a video expanding upon the origins of the snow elves and dwememer, considering there's evidence of them coming from the latest wave of aldmer group that branhced of into the chimer and Aeylids. also, this comes across as a bit of a plot hole but how come the dwemer didn't totally dominate conquer tamiriel with their uncontested technological superiority plus their proficiency with magic? i can understand some of the powerful nord thuum giving them some trouble but weren't the chimer pretty tribal at that point?
@aintfalco79683 жыл бұрын
Unless I'm missing something, it sounds like the Altmer have it right. By all accounts it seems that Summerset was the first Aldmeri civilization outside of Aldmeris. Summerset should therefore be the most culturally, architecturally, and genetically, similar to Aldmeris. It was the Maormer, NOT the Altmer, who were exiled to a far away island. This would cause the entire Maormer population to evolve to suit a new and drastically different environment. This is called allopatric speciation. The Altmer also have the slowest generational turnover rate that we know of, meaning that the fewest generations have passed since the time of the Aldmer. In every way, the Aldmer lineage has undergone the least amount of evolutionary pressure to change on Summerset.

Considering how the Thalmor are being set up as the big bads to be dealt with I think it’s highly likely the Maormer will show up maybe in ES6 as allies to fight against them.

Maybe the various races of Nirn don't need to be genetically related to end up with similar features. Maybe there's a sort of "intelligent humanoid (elfoid? meroid?) template" that they develop into via _convergent evolution_
