Well hopefully this guy will get around to answering our questions and my question is what is running your car to run a higher octane fuel I’ve never heard this before hopefully you will get a chance to explain this to us thank you

Do you mean if I tuned or changed anything in my car to make it run a higher octane fuel?

I've been using 87 since I bought my jx35 infiniti 2013. should I go to 91?

are you always on sport mode?

@@paoloandres4975 I am always on sport mode. You don't have to go to 91, but for me, it did seem to make a difference in fuel economy vs the additional cost. Maybe try to run 91 for a few fill ups and see if you notice a difference. If not, switch back

If you don't mind me asking, what's the reason for always having it in sport mode? P.s. as i said in one of my earlier comments, very impressed with your diy videos. Please keep them coming 🙂

So if I've been using 87 would it hurt to go to 91???
@NexusAuto3 жыл бұрын
No, it would not at all. And you do not have to do anything special to switch. You do not want to switch constantly either, but if you want to switch grades on a QX60, you can with no issues.

Why don't you fill up tank vs just adding 20 liters? I feel adding 20 liters you never really know when you used up the 20 liters. Also you should be driving the exact same trip length same road and pump. That would be a more accurate test in my humble opinion.

Hi. These are some great questions. I did this test during the pandemic. 20L was 1. A control method. Exactly 20L in to the car. No matter if I used a full tank or not, it could never be an exact measurement in real world scenarios 2. Because it was the pandemic, if I did full tanks, this video series would have taken months...maybe a year, to complete. I wanted to try and do the test under similar weather conditions. 3. It saves costs I did try and drive the exact same length and roads. There were some slight variances, but overall, it was the same highway and city. Couldn't be the exact pumps. I was testing different gas stations themselves It was also meant to replicate real world scenarios. There are tons of tests that replicate this in lab settings, but this doesn't account for so much more that happens in the real world. And my results will vary vs other drivers habits and vehicles. So the point was to encourage others to try and do similar tests as well. Thanks for the great feedback. Appreciate your opinion

You are absolutely right. Filling the tank would take too long if your changing the octane. My suggestion was driving 100km and recording that data but then you would have to wait until your tank is empty to fill up with the next octane. I see its not practical. Good stuff.

@@juliansanchezguillen6030 thanks! I do appreciate the questions and feedback. Maybe one day in the future I'll reapproach the test using more fuel. Thanks again

On the QX60? It shouldn't. The PCM is set up to adjust timing if 87 is put in. That is why it says 91 recommended, but not required. But as the testing shows, 91 definitely made a huge difference. Worth it imo, even with gas prices being what they are at this time
