Fuel Injector: Theory of the Waveform

In this video I describe the differences between electron flow of electricity and the conventional flow of electricity to describe why the fuel injector waveform looks the way it does.

Very nice explanation of how the basic atom works and the direction of current. Best I have ever seen on KZbin. I would like to see the mosfet video. Another video I would like to see you make is an easy to understand explanation of the PCM on an vehicle and how it uses oxygen sensors and cam and crank sensors to adjust the injectors and fuel trims. Hola Enrique un cordial saludo soy Jose de P,R, compre el hantek 1008c puedes decirme los parametros para usar la pinza que trajo para el cable de las bujias, Auto High-Pressure Ignition Probe( HT25) lo de mas ya lo probe y trabaja muy bien, con esa pinza no tengo que usar atenuador ya que ella trae uno te agradesco de ante mano la ayuda buen dia.

Fuel starts to flow about a third of the way into the injector pulse since it take time for the force to build up and overcome the spring pressure inside of the injector. In fact, pintle movement can be seen graphically in the waveform of the current (amperage) waveform as a distinct little bump as the current ramps up. The voltage oscillates back and forth and is "consumed " by the resistance of the circuit.

Yes, the waveform will only tell you if the fuel injector solenoid is failing or if there is mechanical resistance in the movement of the pintle.

If the waveform depicts mechanical resistant in the movement of the pintle we will be able to see If the injector is clogged then. Right? A video showing these would be perfect, not only showing what an ideal waveform looks like but what we would see in different cases of mulfunction

Sorry for the late reply. Typically a clog will occur after the pintle. This means the material that clogs an injector usually does not come in contact with the pintle area. The clog is usually at the exit point of the injector where the nozzle is. This, in my experience, does not meaningfully change the waveform.

I was wondering if you could give instruction on how to use the hantek secondary ignition clamp..... I cant seem to get mines to work nor is there any information on the net about that subject....p.s. the clamp is sold with the hantek 1080 but no one can use it

The coil seems to act like a capacitor in that it builds up energy through the magnetic field and then releases it.Very informative and interesting video.

That is exactly right. Capacitors and inductors both store energy just in different ways.

Not too sure what you are asking in the second part of your question. As for the use of an attenuator, it is very important when checking fuel injector voltages. The fuel injectors inductive spike is so high that it may damage the oscilloscope. An attenuator lowers the voltage that the Hantek receives so it makes is safe to check high voltages. On almost all fuel injectors there will always be a positive voltage going to it. Since the injector is only grounded for a small amount of time, it appears that both wires are positive. You need an oscilloscope to see the voltage changes or a multimeter with a fast min/max function. Another way to think about it is to check the voltage when the key is on but the engine is off you will see that both wires will have 12 volts. Now, disconnect the injector and test the wires again, only one will have 12 volts, the other will not. That other wire is the control wire that commands the injector on and off. If this does not make sense let me know and I will try to explain further.

Electrical Engineering is my major. In my General Chemistry class I learned that electrons orbit the nucleus in a cloud of probability. The electrons, depending in which orbital they are in, will occupy a space that is a "standing wave" in 3 dimensions. The orbitals are shaped oddly. Due to the inductive voltage spikes that occurs when a fuel injector fires. Basically the voltage increases to nearly 100 volts which in my experience can cause the software to crash

Hola Enrique he estado viendo todos tus videos y estoy impresionado de ver lo bien que explicas las cosas, yo tengo un taller de mecánica en Costa Rica, desde los últimos 2 años, yo estudie mecánica y me gradué en 1997, despues deje la mecanica del 2004 al 2014, y ahora que tengo el taller estoy enfrentandome con un mundo de tecnologuia muy diferente y me estoy quedando muy corto con los problemas de mis clientes, el susnto es que yo tengo mi taller en un lugar retirado de la capital y se me complica poder ir a cursos para actualizarme, y la verdad aca en Costa rica ni los mismos profesores tienen tanto conocimiento, mi pregunta es si usted me podria recomendar o dirigir alguna manera para poder comenzar a capacitarme en todo este mundo de la electronica automotriz, como te digo yo se como funciona un inyector, una bobina, se le aplica electricidad y se crea un campo magnético que sube la aguja, pero eso no es lo mismo que ver en el oscilloscope el gráfico del inyector, y poder interpretarlo, es un mundo que me encanta pero estoy muy atrasado y ocupo actualizarme, cualquier recomendación te la agradesco montones.
