Fuel Leak Fix with New Fuel Lines, Grommets, Filter Replacement for Stihl lawn equipment

A common problem with lawn equipment like the Stihl chainsaw, polesaw, trimmer, and blower is they develop small fuel leaks where the fuel lines enter the fuel tank after a couple years.
This happens because the tight seal between the rubber grommet and fuel line weakens as the rubber ages and dries out. When this happens, you can easily replace the fuel lines and grommets using repair kits commonly found on amazon or other online parts suppliers.
This video shows the process of accessing the carburetor, removing the old fuel lines and grommets, and installing new fuel lines, grommets, and a fuel filter.
This procedure applies to Stihl models BG75 BR320 FC75 FS40 FS56 FS80 FS85 HL75 HS80 HT75 KM85 SR320 SR340 SR400 SR420

Remove carb and bottom bowl clean all ports with spray carb cleaner with straw. Use silicone spray to lubricate hose lines and grommets for reassembly. Feed new pickup hose thru hole in tank before seating grommet then grab other end with needle nose inside tank pull just out of tank while holding other end of line. Install filter then pull line back THEN slide on grommet and press into tank. Make sure fuel filter sits in middle of tank laying sideways.

I push the fuel line into the tank, fish out the end from inside the tank and press on the filter. then pull back till the filter is in place. Much easier, and I'm only 82 years old.

When I replace these gromets I put a light coat of 1184 on the gromett to keep it from leaking, again, and for the unseable future. This is the same sealant I use on chainsaws and is fuel resistant. I only use premium non-ethanol fuel with Stihl ultra oil, so I usually do not have fuel related problems in my equipment but have found them on used equipment I have bought. I acquired an HS-80 hedge trimmer of eBay that was leaking worse than the Titanic and had to replace it's tank gromets and fuel lines with the above method.

Just take needle nose pull fuel cap line and tab out...easy...sure makes working in tank easy and you may not need all that specialty stuff. Just push a lot of fuel line in tank reach in and pull it out and then put the filter on and pull it in the tank . Good video

Great informative video. While I would never put ethanol based fuel in my small engines, others may and will have these fuel line related issues. My fuel lines and grommets in a 15 year old Stihl are perfectly supple using only premium/non ethanol fuel. No leaking issues. Perfect video though for when I eventually need to change out the fuel lines. Thanks.

Not like that..... Push the hose through into the tank and out the filler neck then attach the filter. Hot water makes pushing the hose and grommets into place.

Engine will start and run with a leaking gromet seal, but you will get gas drops all over yourself.

No when it leaks back out of the air intake it's a vent tube. The third line had a small white piece of plastic that relives pressure from the tank. It's not relieving the pressure from the tank therefore filling the carburetor and backing fuel out of the intake..just go to home depot and get an echo fuel line kit and that will fix the issue

he was replacing fuel lines and grommets because they needed replacing. Thats all. One thing lacking. Just pull the fuel cap and line out with needle nose. Easy. sure makes things easier. Cant believe he works around that. Good video

There is an idle speed adjustment screw on the carburetor that you can adjust to slow down the idle speed. This should help keep the blade from spinning when you're not pulling the trigger.

Yes. It's a phillips. It determines how open or closed the throttle valve is with zero trigger.

The needle valve in your carb is stuck open. Either clean or replace the carb.

A poulan carb can be removed with a simple socket set and disassembled with a screw driver. New ones cost about $20-30 on amazon.
