Had to look up KZbin to find this out myself. Petcock = petrol stopcock. Thanks for clear instructions.

Easy to find out. According to your logic, you gould never turn it to OFF. So it has to be the other way around.

Same thing happened to me. At one point I got so confused that I set it to the off position which was opposite of RES and the bike stalled :)

If you feel strongly about it, you can easily reverse this if your bike has two fuel hoses running from the tap as mine has. Just swap the hoses at the fuel tap. Easy. Otherwise a dot of paint on the longer ‘FROM HERE’ end of the fuel selector lever will serve as a reminder.

I mistakenly left mine in the flow position on my Troy bilt 19HP tractor and ended up with a crankcase full of gas!! Changed it out and hopefully that will stop that.

I have a Honda Valkyrie with the petcock reserve system and I honestly have no clue what the point is. Just let me have access to my full tank of gas without switching a nob around.

My dirtbike stalls when the tail is on the on position but runs fine when on reserve please explain

Actually when the "tail" of the switch is at on then your actually running on reserve. If you're starving for fuel in that position then there is more than likely some trash in the bottom of the tank that has plugged up the little straw there. If it was me I would drain the tank and clean everything out. Also check the gaskets on the petcock. They deteriorate over time especially with this ethanol gas.
