This really takes me back to '89. I was fifteen. The year started out very rough for me, as I'd been expelled from high school in the tenth grade in January and temporarily went to a school for tough kids in West L.A.. Then I got back into the school I got kicked out of in the first place in '90. But what's great about this vid is it reminds you what life was like back in those days. The most sophisticated piece of technology any of us had in those days was cable TV with about 50 channels, few of them worth watching. In those days MTV played actual videos. Paula Abdul, Motley Crue, Guns and Roses, Madonna, Prince, INXS, etc. The world without the internet, without smartphones, is simply unimaginable to Generation Z. I'm not saying life was perfect in the 70s and 80s, but I'm grateful I got to be a kid in those decades. The 80s were the best. Period. I'm not just saying that because I'm sentimental, but they really were. People were not as hung up on BS and angry politics. You didn't hear about politics all the time then, and life was in many ways freer, or at least less neurotic.

@@kaylaleave No. Los Angeles is still , in my mind , such a beautiful , paradise of a city. Moving to California was a childhood dream come true for me. I would tell family and friends of mine when I was a teenager that I was going to live in Los Angeles California some day and no one believed me . . . . . . 33 years later and counting look at me now ! If you've ever had the misfortune of having to endure a long , cold harsh , winter in freezing cold and snow you definantly understand why Los Angeles is a welcoming change. I try my best not to take for granted that to people living in other parts of the country , L.A. California is indeed paradise.

@d23g32
@d23g32 7 жыл бұрын
Uh, no. It may "seem" that way to you just from watching someone's home video but the reality is the exact opposite. I moved to SoCal from the Midwest in the late '70s. People complained just as much about traffic back then, and there were fewer freeways back then so to get across town you were more likely to have to resort to stop and go city streets. As for the smog situation, it's gotten much better since the '70s - '80s. There are written accounts of smog in the LA basin even back in the 1800s but it was at its worst from the 1940s - '90s. A popular humorous bumper sticker in the 1970s and '80s in Los Angeles said "Don't Trust Air You Can't See". www.marketplace.org/2014/07/14/sustainability/we-used-be-china/la-smog-battle-against-air-pollution www.kcet.org/history-society/how-los-angeles-began-to-put-its-smoggy-days-behind Another big change is the crime rate was much higher in the '70s and '80s, too. It peaked in 1991 and now is about half of what it was then according to FBI crime stats. The homicide rate in LA today is a fraction of what it was in 1980. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crime_in_Los_Angeles
