Great video! 2 years later and still a big help. ONE THING: I tried to format via my MacBook Pro and the Ninja V didn't recognize it so the RECORD button was greyed out. I then formatted it via the Ninja V and the RECORD button is an option and it is ready to go! Hope this helps anyone else troubleshooting nowadays. Cheers, John!

So I'm not sure how to fix this issue but my XT4 and Atomos Ninja V setup is having some issues. At random points my input will drop on the ninja V then come back a second later. I don't know what could be causing that to happen. have everything set up the same way to.

Do you think the ninja v crushes shadows? I’ve noticed the image looking significantly worse then learned that it records in 16-235 rgb and not 0-255 which the fuji does in body.

i never formatted my ssd on my p i just plugged it into the ninja, hit formant on the ninja and it did it right there....no need to pre format it on the comupter

So what you can say about that the Ninja V not support full range video signal from Fuji? Fuji HDMI out send BT.601: Color range : Full Color primaries : BT.709 (0-255) Transfer characteristics : BT.601 (16-235) Matrix coefficients : BT.601 So Atomos interpret and record BT.601, not BT.709 from Fuji - it cut dynamic range (I own Ninja V and X-T3 and this is big problem with Fuji)

Hi, any suggestions as to why my fujifilm xt30 is not showing f-log/hlg recording in the menu? Really frustrating as it wont allow me to record in 10bit, atomos also not recognizing the actual device. Any help here would be much appreciated.

Hey! Thanks for the info! :) question, Fuji doesn’t have De-squeezed preview when using an anamorphic lens. Can the Ninja V somehow preview de-squeezed footage while shooting ? Thanks!

Hi John, I have been using Ninja V with my Sony A7III all good but tried hooking up my XT3 and can't seem to get 4k 50fps working with it. Been through all the menus and nothing seems to work. Says MI not connected. Device not compatible with current 4k setting on the Fuji. Any ideas?

Just responded to your IG brother!! In my experience the Ninja helps if you're recording only to it, not dual recording. Basically by not recording to the camera at all you're reducing the workload on the Fuji's internals as I understand it. Hopefully that makes sense and helps!

Hey Buddy, What does the setting "only apply on OUTPUT" mean? Does it mean that you see it normaly and when you pass it on to the computer it has the lut applied?

Thanks John! Nice run down. I’m looking to use one with x100v purely because time limit and that camera cooks. This is new to me so dumb question. If I keep film simulation on the hdmi output in the camera setting do I need to do a LUT as I’m happy with the Fuji straight out of camera look.

Great review. Question, when in Auto focus mode can you see the AF box on the Ninja to see what the camera is focusing on, or do you still need to look at the camera display?

John Thank you so much for this video! it's really helped get things set up. A question for you please. I have the X-T30 when I go into the menu the HDMI trigger will not turn on. I have HDMI Rec Control on, however the Atomos will not engage in record mode. I have 2 new cables I bought and both will not trigger the NINJA. I'm on FW 10.4. My NINJA is brand new just took it out of the box today. Any suggestions?

I followed the steps, however when I press record on the camera it doesn’t record on the atomos. And when I press record on the atomos it doesn’t translate to the Fuji. Any common issues I might be missing? Thanks!

I almost always resort first to the cable. It’s frustrating but from the most expensive to the cheapest their is just no consistency in quality it seems. If you try 3 cables and it still doesn’t work only then would I investigate other issues, but that’s just me!

good question, you do need some way to mount the monitor so lots of people use cages for that purpose to mount both monitor and mic.

Thank You for this Video. Very helpful! I work with the X-T4. I made the same settings like you said. But there is one issue left. i can not activate the CameraTrigger at the NINJA V. At the X-T4, the HDMI REC CONTROL is turned ON, but At the NINJA V i'm not able to turn on the Trigger on the Input settings. What i'm doing wrong? may be a problem with the HDMI Cable? Hey man did you experience having static audio over HDMI?. Attaching external mic on the Mic/line input seems to eliminate the problem but the static audio problem bothers me especially if im recording footage on both camera and Atomos. I’m using a fuji XT30 for events like you recommended. Thanks John!

@@simontaylor2245 Hey Simon! I haven't tried it yet. More than likely I will keep my x100v as a still photography camera and get a dedicated video camera for video. If you haven't, February 17th fuji released a big update for the x100v that adds a bunch of features and let's it be used as a webcam via the fuji x webcam PC app. I've tried it, it's absolutely incredible!

you made me curious so I google'd and found this "the Ninja V+ adds the ability to continuously record 8K/30p and 4K/120p footage in Apple ProRes RAW for compatible camera systems. The Ninja V+ will also feature 10-bit HEVC codec out of the box (no need for a paid upgrade as with the Ninja V)"

Hello John. Thanks for this clear video. I have a question; mostly with video on my XT3 I use the manual focus and focus peaking. But is it also possible (with the camera focus button in position S or C) to choose and switch a focuspoint on the Atomos touchscreen with your finger at the same way you can do that on the XT3 screen ?

@@johnstamw After looking a while on youtube and read several reviews my conclusion is that it isn't possible to focus with finger touching on the touchscreens of this affordable monitors. The only exception that I discovered was the more expensive and professional Portkeys M5.

hey John. Peculiar issue, perhaps you can help. Only way I am able to get signal on atomos ninja from fuji xt4 at 59.97p 4k is when I set hdmi output display info to 'on'.... which as you say, is useless. Very confused...

Hey dude, I just got my ninja v for XT3. When I’m recording, the camera starts heating up like crazy, if I leave it long enough it will definitely overheat. I’m confused with this since the atomos is now doing all the work, why is the camera heating up so much

John Stambaugh does yours hit up? Mine acts as if it’s recording on the actual camera and also drains the battery quicker than it would without the recorder

@@johnstamw Have you tried to record continuesly in 4k60 on the atomos? If so, how long could you record for without the camera heating up? Did a test and it took 30-40min until the camera shut down recording externally. Is that normal?

Something to know is that if you choose not to record at all to the camera, then your record limit of 30 minutes will no longer exist.
