Recently I use DR400, Highlight -2, Shadow -1, Photometry Multi to shoot videos like HDR. When face-detect is on and AF goes to the face, dynamic range in the background is not great, but still OK. It is fun.

I actually do the same thing, I eventually just used Eterna, turned down all the internal settings and put dynamic range at 200%. It’s like Log without having to shoot log 🤷🏻‍♂️best of both worlds

CC with reduced contrast is one of my go tos also for Fuji. Depending on environment I tend to warm it slightly a couple hundred K for skin tones compared to other settings.. but personal preference of course. Just love the image out of these cameras. I wish Fujifilm would jump into a cinema camera market and compete with canon c100/fs5 price point.

@@johnstamw I love my XH1 and I'm glad to see the XT4 move in that direction with IBIS and a slightly bigger grip (though not as large as I would've hoped as I prefer the XH1 grip).. we will see!

Finally getting back to making videos & setting up my XT-3 atm. I've mainly used it for photos only, but I want to incorporate quality B-roll/VLOG shots to bring more depth to my riding videos (mainly use a GoPro Hero 7). Classic Chrome is a great option for me, as I can get a solid picture right out of the camera & don't need to do too much editing to get it how I want. Helps speed up production & lets me ride more! Appreciate the video John!

@ChrisFlores22 that’s your AF speed settings. They do not apply when not recording. It’s a weird quirk but it makes the AF behave differently like that

@@ChrisFlores22 it works fine both times! When you’re not recording it just ignores your custom settings. You’ll have to adjust your AF settings to your preference.

Great channel. We have ~same amount of subs. I have been using the BM pocket 4k and I love it but for some family trips it is heavy so I'll like to use the xt30 on those situations. Do you think this setting that you shared is fine on 8bit? I don't have external recorders.

hey you would just need to do some basic correction in post! I do offer LUTs built on this classic chrome look, but you can get any creative luts! conversion luts would only be used for different color spaces like rec709. hope that helps!:)

@@johnstamw Thanks, helpful information. I edit with Adobe Premier pro. I used Canon in the past, now I observe videos on Fuji and Sony before I buy either of them. Most probably I will go for Fuji X-T30, as I do short films, no need double sd card, etc. I still think that if I will use for example ''Eterna'', will not further correct colors. Otherwise, how does it make sense, using one effect and correcting it with another ))

By the way so I will be the king of mistakes!! :D hahaha, Color grading is one of my weak points, I'm trying to create a method for color grading despite my color blindness (which is not that strong but I have to study it a lot :D ), I will do it! Really appreciate all your videos! I exchanged my A6400 for an XT30 because of the much much better video options and the ability to do 10 bit out. The 1080p from the XT30 actually looks so much better than the Sony's its astounding. Learning a lot from your content and I really hope your channel takes off! Finding information I normally wouldn't find anywhere. One thing I want to confirm: Are you sure that modifying the settings in the film profile (highlights, shadows) actually improves dynamic range? Or is it simply like doing a basic curve modification in camera which you would normally do in post? The reason I ask is because the native ISO for the sensor's best dynamic range is 640 as used by Flog. When you switch to that ISO, the reference for 18% gray is moved and allows you to fit more highlight data in the gamma curve, at the expense of having to stretch it in post. Whereas I'm not sure that modifying the highlight and shadow tones does anything for DR, just simply pulling down the highlights might just 'flatten" them. The DR 200 sets native ISO to 320 giving you 1 extra stop, whereas 400 sets it to 640, giving you 2 extra stops, for a total of 11 ish total stops on the XT30 in Eterna. Also, in your opinion is it worth getting an older Ninja like the 2 that doesnt have 4k but still does 1080p 10 bit? To bypass the record limit and still have 10 bit 1080p with a great codec. Even internally the 1080p 200mbps looks really nice. A older Ninja might be a good option, but not sure if its worth it since the price difference between the ninja v and ninja blade/2 is about 300$ Canadian.

John Stambaugh Yes I am! You should have a lot more imo. I shoot with both xt-3 and a73, and it’s pretty tempting to sell Sony and get x-t4. Updated rumor x-t4 will be $1799 and that alone is worth the ibis! I’ll look forward to your review when it comes out 😬

Just a heads up, as I understand it. Shadows should actually be plus 2 rather than -2. -2 supposedly crushes them. Similar to editing photos in light room, you want to "raise" shadows if you want to see more detail there. Thanks for sharing your settings!
