Good time hanging out mate! Sony’s are great work cameras when they are not broken. Prefer canon build and feel, you know I’ll be switching if sigma is allowed to bring out full frame RF glass. Side note we did stop filming and shooting to make sure the poor lady was okay, all was good with plenty of help on the beach.

Yeah that shutter noise you were experiencing was because e-front curtain shutter was not on. Usually you want it on. When that’s on it doesn’t sound like that. Surprised your friend didn’t know that.

the camera shutter is doing that because it has its eletronic shutter turned off. so its trying to simulate a mechanical shutter with only 1 shutter.

I've been shooting with the Sony A7 III over the years. It was a love-hate relationship. What Sony does absolutely well is that it has the E-mount open. But what's mega good about Sony is that you can program every single button, which is annoying and limiting with the Canon R6. Furthermore, you have the overexposed indicator directly in Liveview on the Sony. What many people don't realize is that with Sony it shows the image directly on the display at e.g. aperture f5.6, whereas with Canon it is always shown open aperture as if it were f1.4 and only after the image has been taken is it obvious that it was taken at f5.6. It's a small thing, but helpful when working. Yes, the shutter sounds really awful, it's also annoying every time you click it in your hand. What did you think of the display on the Sony? Did you hardly use the EVF? I think it's good that Sony is showing so much innovation. Once you've used a Sony, you find Canon and Nikon "limiting". If you get a Sony, then definitely buy an R Line.

Out of the box the Sony shutter is a bit quiter/has only one noise. But when you turn off I think it’s electronic front curtain. It kinda makes that double noise but has smoother bokeh when you do. Either way yes it was startling compared to my xt5 great vid :)

Thank you for the video. As a long time shooter of both Fuji and Sony a few recommendations. First, for 135mm the Sony 135/1.8 GM is great and focas great but is more expensive. If you’re used to using all Fuji glass compare against Sony’s own glass. Second, on the shutter you have full two curtain mechanical, electronic first curtain, and electronic just like Fuji. It’s not clear to me how you had it setup since the Sony won’t automatically change like the Fuji can be setup to. Also consider the A7RV as well as the A7IV since its AF is even more up to date. Enjoy and take care.

Yeah I would love to try some GM lenses but that was all I had available to me for the video - either way the Sigma 24-70 2.8 was unbelievable, probably better then Fuji’s own 16-55! I’d love to try using it with the E front curtain enabled and see if that fixes it, unsure why Gerard had his camera turned out with full mechanical but I didn’t quite get a chance to change it on the day. I do like the look of the RV but it’s just a bit out of my price range at the moment hence why I’m sorta looking at options around the A7iv price.

@@rudermanphoto Sigma’s latest DG DN Art for Sony are very very good. It’s the Samyang I’m not as sure about. On the E first curtain may be off because many shooters are told it can impact Bocah. It can depend on the aperture you are shooting at I believe. On my Fuji, that latest being an X-T4, you can setup the shutter to stay on, Manual, EFCS, or Electronic or automatically switch between the them based on the desired speed and that was a great feature I thought.

While it looks like an awesome photo camera, the video features just aren’t quite there for me - plus ergonomically I don’t see how you’d be able to rig it out effectively - I’ll likely get one down the road as a fun camera to try out but I can’t imagine using it for video professionally. If the Z8 had a flip screen and didn’t cost a fortune I’d 100% consider that though

That’s too bad your experience with the XH2s was so bad. I have not had any issues except the occasional freezing of the camera. Better luck with the new gear🤞
@rudermanphoto
@rudermanphoto 9 ай бұрын
Yeah its very unusual given all my other Fuji gear has been rock solid, but my first XH2s broke 2 weeks after buying it and then this newest one bricked itself 9 months into ownership, after being sent off and "repaired" (they just re-programmed the PCB) it worked for a further 5 days and then died again! I've sent it off one more time, here's hoping Fuji actually replace the camera as there's obviously something very wrong with that particular unit itself, but this entire experience has really soured my experience with what is otherwise an amazing camera - but no matter how good the camera is, if it's unreliable I just can't keep it around as I don't want it to break when I need it for work!

Yes 6.00! It just refused to turn on one day - plugging it into power would turn it on briefly and then it would just die again - first party battery, which worked perfectly fine in my XT5 too. I’d had a few glitches beforehand but nothing that actually bricked the camera itself - the exact same issue reared its head 5 days after getting the camera back. I’ve sent it off again, I hope a brand new camera fixes it but I just don’t know if I want to risk it, especially with client work! A shame, because I think the XH2s is an awesome camera, maybe I’m just woefully unlucky lol

Hi! I just picked up the LUMIX S5II. Used Fujifilm since 10 years now. Have also a X-T5. I was also interested in using the S5 for video. My (limited) experience with it wasn’t ‘wow’. Steep learning curve. Coming from Fuji The menu isn’t intuitive. The AF though has a lot of interesting features. I also used an X-H2 and that one felt a bit more sturdy. But this is very subjective. The X-T5 on the other hand is a bit less sturdy and has a lot of scuff marks after one year of normal use. Still doing some test, but maybe I’ll end up returning the LUMIX.

Yeah I’d like to test the S5ii before committing to it as well, I played with it at a camera store and was impressed with its handling - the build quality felt a bit average and I do really wish it had CFexpress slots cause I’ve already invested in buying two cards for my XH2s haha Will see how I go

Love Fuji, came from sony also. Also experienced reliability issues. Issues with godox triggers and tethering. Freezing. Lots of lens issues. Aparture rings not working properly on the 16-55. Dust in zooms, also WR zooms. Fuji service and prices are awesome in Europe. But it just feels like not suited for pro day in day out use. Their new primes seems like up to the task btw, so maybe in the future it is better. But this also makes me think about switching back. Will not Enjoy the bigma's though. Aslo hate flippy screens
@rudermanphoto

In Fuji’s defence the XH2s is the only item of theirs I’ve had that has actually properly malfunctioned - I’ve experienced no problems with the plethora of lenses I own, the XT5, X-Pro1 or the X-E3 I used quite a bit back in 2019. Their service is decent, I have FPS and they seem to turn around the camera within a week, but yeah my Canon 5d3 got dropped off the roof of a car onto concrete and still continued shooting well into the nearly 200k shutter count without skipping a beat, so it’s disheartening that a XH2s with less then 22k shutter count can fail not once but twice, and experience many glitches during professional use as well. The solution of just going back to Canon is an obvious one but I just don’t want to support that company with its anti-consumer lockout of 3rd party AF RF glass, so really I have to look at Sony which I don’t love either or the Lumix S5ii which is looking like the likely candidate due to its value and video features but also cause its co-developed by Leica and they know a thing or two about photography! (Plus all the great sigma lenses I tested in this video are all available for L mount) Would be interested to see if the reliability on it would be good enough for pro use though, yet to find much conclusive evidence of them being particularly fault prone which is good I guess.

@@rudermanphoto Canon was my first love. Same thing here. They are so far back with lens choices. Even if they open up now, it will take years before there is a descent 2nd market. Nikon or Sony for me, the reason I would choose Sony, is the amount of glass available. Don't love to bodies or lack of software upgrades. Hybrid event and wedding shooter here. The Tammy 35-150 seems like a dream lens... Their GM primes are crazy good, also the way they are build, they don't show wear and tear. I would only consider Nikon because of the Nikon zf tbh. No 1.4 primes yet. Love Fuji's policy. Updates after 5 years still, and good ones too. Fuji is good enough for what I do, apart from the issues I have had. Never had an issue with a Sony lens or body. Maybe also a good thing because their service is expensive here in Europe. Can get a lens fixed at Fuji for 80-160 euros depending on what happened.

I always hear this about Sony cameras being "boring." Have you ever even tried to play with the picture profiles or creative looks or WB tint? You can shoot processed jpegs simultaneously as raws. I'm convinced that 99% of "Sony is boring" commenters have never even opened the creative looks menu or picture profile menus. I am not saying it is a replacement for Fuji film simulations but it's absurd to pretend like Sony is only ever good for shooting "boring" raws.
