Thanks for this video. I am on Fuji XT3, and 2 years later find that the lenses are starting to get better with Viltrox, but still, the auto-focus is said to be sub-par... I am debating between A7C, A7C2 and possibly A7CR (just to be able to crop as much as I want as I often reframe in post my shoots and I have more time to let the picture sink in. Would you say the viewfinder of the A7C is a deal breaker if I wear glasses. The price difference is 500-700, which is a fair amount of money... Thanks again, I'll scroll in your channel as I liked the more chilled ambiance of your video vs the usual over exited KZbinr :)

Yeah the viewfinder is tough with glasses. One could get used to it but it’s certainly something I say you should try before you buy

Man thank you so much! This video is super relevant and helpful to me. It's a fortunate coincidence, because I just sold my Fuji gear to invest in Sony, and I was planning to get A7IV but rumors point to delays until December, but since I have a couple of projects before end of the year, I was deliberating whether to go for A7C instead...and your thoughts and experience on the camera definitely helped!
@Lonnie.G3 жыл бұрын
Nice! Yeah I imagine the a7 IV is going to be the camera to get when it finally arrives but this is not bad in the meantime. Two things I didn’t mention, because they haven’t negatively impacted me yet, is the mechanical shutter tops out at 1/4000 (electronic shutter goes to 1/8000), and the flash sync speed is slow (1/160 I think). Both of those are worse than the a7 iii so keep that in mind if it’s something that impacts your shooting scenarios. For me they don’t and I really enjoy the camera
@VioletGOKU3 жыл бұрын
@@Lonnie.G I work with external diffused lights so flash sync shouldn't be an issue. I'm yet to encounter a scenario where ISO 100 and aperture 1.8 or above would still need more than 1/4000th of a second, but that might also be the case because I've been shooting APS-C so far. Hope it doesn't become too much of an impediment.

@@Lonnie.G I have an iPhone 12. I just decided that, as a hobbyist, I didn’t want to deal with video on a camera: with the external mics, editing software, color grading, etc. I’m going to go all-in on my still photography, but let video be an area where I prioritize convenience. I have massive respect for people who can handle both photography and videography!

@joeltunnah2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think with this body style you’re stuck with f/2 and slower AF lenses, or compact manual rangefinder lenses. Otherwise the handling is terrible.
@Lonnie.G2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it’s absolutely something you have to work around - for me mostly because Sony puts the lens mount way too close to the grip. I’ve found some accessories that help but it’s a shame that they are needed. I’ve huge hands so Your mileage may vary of course

Nice video...what about SOOC pics and picture profiles... After using fujifilm how u find Sony SOOC pics?
@Lonnie.G3 жыл бұрын
Great question. To be honest I haven’t used anything SOOC on Fuji in a couple of years so I’m used to processing my RAW files now. From what I remember, I never liked the JPEGs from Sony when using the creative styles; however, the picture profiles (separate setting typically for video) apply to Jpegs as well so I think it’s possible to tweak and combine the two into something nice out of camera. I’ll have to test that out and if I find some nice presets I’ll make a video and share some examples. Thanks!
@faisalsheraz81013 жыл бұрын
@@Lonnie.G thanks for the reply..I will definitely wait for your video...I ask this question because everyone is talking about excellent Fujifilm SOOC jpegs as compared to others so this is concern for me as Sony colour science is something which u have to work hard to achieve desirable results...
@vt49793 жыл бұрын
@@faisalsheraz8101 if you like the look of sooc jpgs from fuji and their film simulations, stick with them. Sony’s sooc jpgs are fine but the creative styles are really limited and nothing special. Edited RAW files will always come out better.

Just bought mine yesterday with the kit lens and the 40mm 2.5 G. I considered it against the X-T4 with 16-80 kit (about same price), but in the end the A7C was lighter, smaller and had better picture quality.

That’s a nice kit there for sure. I’ve never used the xt4 but it really does impress me how lightweight the a7c body. When I bought it I though the box was empty! Lol

It's an interesting camera! Although Sony has been making similar APSC bodies (to the a7c) for a while, it definitely doesn't feel as mature as the Fuji from a handling perspective. But I do like the overall performance and lens options on Sony. Can't really go wrong with either though tbh but Fuji definitely FEELS better in my hands.

I thought 4-6 second startup was a bit more than I remembered so I tried that on mine and it took about 2.5 seconds. At that speed I can't complain and I don't think I ever missed a shot because of that. At 4-6 seconds for the shutter to work, maybe a camera reset would help? Thanks for your review!
@Lonnie.G3 жыл бұрын
interesting! Yours takes 2.5 seconds to display an image AND finish drawing the on screen UI or just to display the image? Also is that from a "cold startup? or after turning on and off several times. i didn't show it in the video but I did notice that if I turned it on after it being off for a long time (i.e. first boot of of the day), the subsequent times I would turn off and back on would be a bit quicker. I also noticed it was especially slow after replacing the battery and turning on for the first time (I've noticed this with most mirrorless cameras tbh). What's funny is that I originally thought it was only a couple seconds from memory as well, and it wasn't until I started demonstrating for the video that I timed it being a bit longer. I wonder if it has anything to do with the settings as well. It's possible I have turned some things on that further delay it. Thanks for comparing your experience
@BIMLounge3 жыл бұрын
@@Lonnie.G It's like 0.5 second for the screen to turn on and about 2 for the overlays to show up. From there the camera can start shooting photos. I think it's about the same at cold startup. When I'm in a rush I tend to flip the switch when the camera is still in the bag. By the time I took it out and brought it to my eye it's ready to shoot. If it's at my wrist then it's always on since the battery is so good. I tested cold startup after taking the battery out and back in and you are right, I got 4.5s. That's the cool thing, I only take it out every few days so I never noticed. I wonder if the speed and/or type of SD card also affect startup?
@Lonnie.G3 жыл бұрын
@@BIMLounge yeah that’s not bad. I’ll have to play with it on mine a bit more. I tend to keep it on as well. I have pretty fast SD card in mine (atleast on paper) but the ones in my A9 are a bit faster so maybe I’ll try one of those and see. I also can’t remember if I did this video before or after the firmware update. I didn’t mention the big that would split the UI in half sometimes so I’m thinking I already did the update but there’s a chance I didn’t. That could have an impact too I guess. I’ll definitely mess around with it this weekend

Awesome review! I’ve been jumping from system to system. From RX100 to GX85 to A7iii now I’m on an X100V. My favorite camera was my RX100, super compact, took it everywhere was happy with the autofocus eat the time. Then the GX85, super compact, fun interchangeable lenses. Then the x100v, best Jpegs, awesome controls, but it overheats when recording video, autofocus for video is not super reliable. May end up selling the X100V for this camera but just hate dealing with the hassle of selling, though Fuji and Sony both have a good secondhand marketplace. Love the compact nature, full frame, video capabilities, best autofocus. Wanna pair it with those super small primes that Sony came out with rrecently. Anyway, really great review! Super different from most other reviews. 🤘

@Lonnie.G Жыл бұрын
For me I’d prefer the a7c body ONLY because I prefer the offset viewfinder style vs the hump - which is a personal preference. In every other way I think the a7 IV is better; however, with rumors of an a7c II I’d be waiting to see what that looks like

You know what? Interestingly, when i shot a couple side by sides recently and looked at the RAW files I really didn't see the advantage either. I'd never looked at them side by side before my latest video. It seems I only prefer the Fuji when it comes to jpegs -- mostly because i really think the Sony has so much more locked in the RAW so I don't really shoot Sony jpegs. I might explore this further in a future video but with the RAW files I think I agree with you.
