My copy stays warm during light usage, just walking around and taking the occasional photo. It has only overheated to shutting down during video recording. Still, it's a little concerning. The camera warms up and drains battery even while browsing menus. I'm hoping Fujifilm addresses the issue. Kudos for being the first person to mention the thermals in any sponsored coverage of this camera.

In UK here...took it out tonight..12°C / 53°F .... Only took stills, but it got noticeably warm....not hot...but it makes a nice hand-warmer :) that was with no EVF only OVF...few menu changes...bit of chimping....took 30/40 shots over 2 hours.... Bought it 3 days ago..latest firmware was pre_installed. My overall concern, is that this will shorten the lifespan of the electronics. All the heat seems to centre around the grip, although the battery itself (when ejected) doesn't feel hot. Weird eh ? All the best...and thanks for the video 👍

Great review- thanks for the effort. I find the durability of the np-126 batteries very acceptable especially compared to the former smaller batteries for the X100 series. Advantageously, the battery is now interchangeable between the X camera series, e.g. XPro and XT.

Agree with this review 100%. Would also add that the video quality is fantastic on the camera. Pretty much the same video you get from the XT3/4, you just can't change lenses (and no IBIS like the XT4). The color profiles in the camera are just ridiculously great, too. We shot a short film using this camera and the Eterna profile (we didn't want to do a lot of coloring in post) and it was amazing how great it looked. The 4K video tests with the B&W profiles were also great. Fuji knocked this one out of the park IMO.

Worked for AppleCare 7 years... this is what they call "Early field failure analysis" which translates to "early adopters are the last round of beta testers." Fuji's engineers will quietly have their factory add a piece of kapton tape, or a plastic shim or some other $0.08 improvement and it'll forever be known that the earliest V serial numbers occasionally had heat issues. Sucks for early adopters, but they're never going to admit the issue, they'll just quietly address it on later production runs.

Interesting point about the 35mm-e focal length being 'boring', as that's kinda what I like about it. I'd more charitably describe it as 'invisible' - it's the anti-gimmick lens, showing a very natural view that doesn't lean on tricks like compressing perspective or wideangle drama. Another thing I like about it is It's easy to make acceptable pictures with, but difficult to make really outstanding ones with, so it's a good way to push my photography skills.
@bobrosberg55
@bobrosberg55 Жыл бұрын
I agree totally agree with you, it's an incredibly versatile focal length. Not as good as you would ideally use, but can work very well. For example, portraits. I prefer a 50 for portraits but I've done very well with a 35. A very flexible lens.

The camera tends to get warm (not hot, and certainly not overheat), I think is because it's aluminum body. Aluminum is a better heat conductor so it disperses heat more efficiently out of the internals.

The Really Right Stuff base plate for my x100s provided me additional grip security without the thumb rest. It made the camera just less than a cm taller and gave my pinky an extra hold. I bought it for the Arca mount, but appreciated it more for the grip extension. I know, RRS products are pricier, but wonderfully machined.

I am not a Fuji shooter but have fallen for this little gem of a camera. I’ve not had the opportunity, as yet, to get my hands on a V but have had a little play with the F, so have already made the decision that I’m going to buy one. I’ve long admired what Fuji have been doing with crop sensor cameras and really want to be part of that, and for me this will be a perfect take everywhere camera that I want with me all the time, whether that be for street /travel photography or just those intimate family opportunities. Agree it is a shame that Fuji went to the effort of making this camera weather sealed but didn’t go to the full length of providing the adapter kit, so at least it’s being discounted for launch, here in the uk, so will definitely add it. Really enjoyable video, now subscribed, thank you 🙏

Weather sealing for me isn't so much a deal breaker on any camera. I tend not to shoot in conditions that are that inclement unless I have an umbrella anyhow, but as someone who spent the first half of my photography career shooting film (there were no other options back then) the articulating LCD screen is something that I derided as totally frivolous until I actually started shooting Architecture and spent so much time on my aging knees to get the correct angle. My Nikons at the time did start to offer an articulated screen but with huge battery draining electronic 'mirror lock up.' The X-A1 and then very quickly the X-T1 saved my knees! With the slim and recessed profile of the LCDs now, there is absolutely no excuse for Fuji not to make an X-E4 with the same LCD that the X-100V has. I still enjoy my X-100F, my X-E2 and even my 'ancient' (in digital terms) X-20, but for WORK, I also 'am spoiled' and I need that waist level finder that I used to have on my Hasselblads! :) Good review (as usual.) I may end up with a V in the future after they've been out for a while and there is a used market. I don't mind the 'artistic' softness of the F for what I use it for and the advanced video features of the V aren't something I'm looking for. I don't have an attention span required to shoot decent video. LOL

I have an H1, T3 and recently added a Pro3. In the past I’ve also had a Pro2. After I got a X100T and then the F my Pro2 collected dust, so I WILL NOT get an X100V because I know it will happen all over again: the Pro3 will sit there. I do prefer the drop down LCD on the Pro3. On the XT series I like to shoot EVF only so when I did want to drop down the LCD to be more discrete I had to change the view mode, then then pull the LCD down which is a pain - as you mention - and when I was done put it all back. With the Pro3 I can be in EVF only and if I need the LCD I just drop it and it comes on and the EVF goes off. When I’m done I just close it. That’s great! The Pro series would be as good looking as the X100 series if they had gotten rid of the dumb angle on the dial deck that creates the optical illusion of making the camera look like Gumby. Since there’s no function for it I wish they had just cleaned up the lines. That is my only objection with the Pro3.

"You'll shoot your eye out, kid!" Oh man, this and the Moment review of the camera has me seriously lusting after one. At the moment I've got an X-Pro3 Dura-Black (which I absolutely love, my favourite Fuji camera so far) an X-T3 and an X100F. I'm seriously considering trading the X-T3 with grip in a part-exchange for another X-Pro3, and part-exchanging the X100F in for the X100V. Then I don't think I'd ever need to upgrade again, honestly. With weather-sealing, durability and reasonably fast auto-focus, it's all there for me. Regarding the warmth issue I have heard that it's possibly using older / slower memory cards. Apparently if you use super-fast pro-level cards the issue is a lot less apparent. I don't know the truth of that though, just what I've heard on the DPReview forum. Another issue could be using the older battery in, rather than the WP-126S, but I'm almost 100% certain you're using the correct one. Finally it could be something they could fix with firmware, who knows? I think part of it though is down to the use of aluminium combined with the weather-sealing and more powerful processor. The good news is that the aluminium is a lot more heat conductive than the older models, so although they're toasting up your hands they're actually pretty effective in wicking the heat away from the innards. Be interesting to find out what the truth of the matter is. Anyway, thank you for the video review, and your images are always fun to see.

Refreshing Review and on point Comments! 1. listen for it…the shutter sound I want is…SNICK +1 thru +5 2. On the F, I turned Pre-AF OFF, Engaged OVF, then a quick lever flick for EVF if needed, then flick back to OVF. Went through 2 batteries a day for 3 long hot summer days on the street in Boost mode without experiencing internal heat, though a black camera in the sun will get noticeably hot. 3. Your points on the LCD are valid, perhaps Open/Close the LCD might trigger LCD ON/OFF? No button required. 4. Black on order: maybe 6 days, 14 hrs, 187 min…minutes move slowly when you’re waiting.

Interesting Video Andrew. What I love about my X100V is the lack of attachments, I have other systems with lots of lenses and I was always wanting to try new glass, but there's a great joy to be had with a camera with no additional lenses. attachments or accessories (though I did buy the NiSi almost invisible lens hood/filter combo for weatherproofing). The beauty of the camera IMHO is in its old world simplicity. Don't need a bag, don't need to stop and fiddle around. What a sweet change. Ends up making it an inexpensive quality purchase.

A lot of x100 shooters like that hellation/glare, it’s sort of been the signature look or a key characteristic of the images of this line, so much so that these shooters are adding black mist filters to their x100v’s, which has the added benefit of weather sealing the camera.

Very nice, balanced review. Thanks a lot. I can tell that the X100s and X100f don't heat up. But I don't live in such a warm area. For a better grip I would recommend a wrist strap like the Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Strap. The 'ash' version looks nicer than the black one on this camera. With that wrist strap you can kind of 'wedge' your hand against the camera which provides stability. Also, I like the b+w photos in this video very much! Great subjects (barns, abandoned cabins).

Ordered mine a month ago and it should ship in a few days. Will probably be the most joy I've experienced with a camera since that already ancient Leica IIIG I used in the 70's while at the S.F.A.I. and blessed to have Imogen for a semester (still have the IIIG - but no darkroom anymore). I think the X100V will give me some of those feelings again and rekindle more of my love for photography. I've been waiting for a long time to make a reasonable investment in digital, after a string of lower cost point and shoots that never really engaged me. I think the technology is finally advanced enough that I won't feel as though if I waited another six months I could have had something half the price and twice as good. This one maybe a "keeper".

Digital World Beauty - Photography Tips If i say, better go with the newest series of x100. The x100v, that is because the lens has been reworked and it perform beautifully. Before on fujifilm x100f, the lens is soft wide open (at f2) and sharp only at f4, which is a dissapointment. Thats one major upgrade from x100f. I’m going to be treating myself to one of these and it will be my first time joining the Fuji gang. Biggest problem is which one? The street photographer in me says black while the stylist says silver.....I think I’ll make the final decision at the camera store counter. Denae & Andrew This will be my first time, was going to get the XT4 but the fully articulated screen was a deal breaker for me. Had thought about another Ricoh GR (loved my mk2) for street work when I didn’t want to lug my 5D around, but seeing the new x100v cw updated lens finally pushed me over the edge. Being a Fuji guru isn’t the reason I follow your channel, being very knowledgeable and being genuine people keep me subscribed. Haha. That's good to hear you won't hold it against us. :) And I agree, the XT4 is pretty amazing, but the articulating screen isn't great for photographers only. @@AndrewGoodCamera So I was worried about the screen on the X-T4 especially as I ordered before the "merchants of doom" kicked in on KZbin. However I called in to the House of Photography in London and quickly realised that its fine just flip it out and rest along your forearm if you want to be stealthy for waist shooting, plus its now protected when folded in. In all honesty it wouldn't of mattered anyway because IBIS for my shaky hands with manual lenses is what did it for me.

If it makes a difference, silver makes it look more retro, and gets a more positive response from people, also holds its value better for resale. Black is probably more stealth.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the video. One small point you raised - the non-linear manual focus. Well in the Button/Dial Setting menu, page 2, the second item, Focus Ring Operation, you can select "linear operation" for a different feel to manual focusing. May I suggest you give it a try! Thanks again for all your excellent videos.
@AndrewGoodCamera
@AndrewGoodCamera 4 жыл бұрын
Right. I was speaking more literally, as in the focus is tied to the ring in a linear way with fixed top points. I understand Fuji does its best to allow for linear focus, but in practice it's not tied 1:1, as anyone who has tried to use a focus pull on a gimbal will tell you. Clutch focus lenses work slightly better, however.

Perfect camera! I own at the moment the X100F with an UV-Filter from B&W and for landscape I’m using the Zeiss circular Polarizationfilter (bought for my older Sony RX1R) 49mm. This gives excellent color or impressive Black and White pictures. Maybe in the future I will upgrade to the „V“ but that has time. Many of my best photos are taken with this system. My other gear: Olympus E-M1X with several pro-Lenses. But that is another story 😁

I upgraded to the X100V yesterday (4th of March) and I can tell you that the folding thumbrest by Lensmate for the X100F works on this one, despite what they say in their online page. But for the perfect fit I would wait (if I hadn't one already) for the new one. For me the Lensmate thumbrest is the best one on the market and with it you don't feel the need for a bigger front grip.
@Lehmannbeat
@Lehmannbeat 4 жыл бұрын
I have no idea why you are saying this as the thumb rest for the X100F does not even slide fully into the hotshoe of the X100V and when trying it out I actually put a little scratch into my brand new X100V, because I tried to bend the thumb rest back (as you are meant to be able to do) and you can't do that without putting a dent into your camera, so please be careful! It also made me think that aluminium is a very soft metal indeed and seems to scratch extremely easily, so maybe we will be paying for this new smooth look by putting a lot of marks into the camera.
4 жыл бұрын
@@Lehmannbeat Well, It doesn't go all the way in the hotshoe but the rubber on the thumb part keeps it away from the camera body. I have no dent on the camera and what appears to be a scratch fades away with your finger rubbing it like a charcoal crayon would. Perhaps my thumbrest unit has some minor differences in design. For sure the new one that Lensmate promises will fit smoothly. I will use the one I have. Sorry to hear that you had a worst experience.

My new dream camera I guess. X-T series is definitely more practical but it doesn't fit in the pocket. I have the X100s and it does great for the price, though the lens cons you adressed can be annoying sometimes (including the 35mm focal range, it's either too wide or too narrow), which they fixed in this, and added nice modern things like good AF and EVF. The X100V isn't the best camera on the market in any category, but is such a great all-around thing.

I think keeping the same battery as the past model is good for the environment as it allows a person to trade up from a prior model without having to buy more stuff. If the front grip is grown further then the camera will just get bulkier which I personally think would be a shame. Shooting 23mm, 35mm equivalent, I find perfect for most photo situations and I can usually photo stitch if needed to go wider. I think that for going wider best to stick with an interchangeable lense camera. The X100 series is that camera to always have with you. Maybe there’s a need to start offering the growing HEIF photo format as well as JPEG straight from the camera. But then I shoot mostly anyway.

Uhmm. First off, there is no such thing as too many cameras. ;) As far as Utah, there's just so much. It's hard to tell you where to begin. But if you're coming in Sept I would say what NOT to go to, and that's the main canyon of Zion. It is spectacular, but there are other ways to see it without dealing with buses and crowds. Unfortunately, that's the first place on everyone's list. But there are so many other ways to explore. Capital Reef and Eskalante are two areas that get bypassed in favor of Zion and Bryce Canyon. Those are much more accessible, just more spread out and you have to work a little harder to plan. If you do go to Zion, I'd suggest seeing the main canyon from the Cable Mountain or the north trail to Observation Point. Easier hikes than Angels landing and bottom up Observation Point anyway. Kolob Canyon is also underrated.

I bought my first camera (X T20), half a year ago and I am still on the learning curve. I was in a dilemma between X T20 and the X100F but since I'm a beginner and I probably don't know yet what I actually want, I went with the more diverse option. I also have the 18-55 lens and that thing can surely produce some nice images. Do you notice any significant difference between that lens on 23 mm and the 23 mm f2? I am also interested in the pancake lens because of the compactness.
@CWReace
@CWReace 4 жыл бұрын
@@grouchobono4500 I get fine photos with the 27mm pancake, but probably my favorite to use is the 35mmF2 -- love the image quality and the clicking aperture ring, and I like that focal length for general use. The 23mmF2 is very comparable if you prefer a somewhat wider-angle field of view. But it's hard to go wrong with the X system -- I switched from Nikon D500 just to get everything more compact, and I don't feel I'm missing anything at all (and gaining other things). A few months ago I added the Fuji X-H1 for when I don't mind carrying around something a bit bigger with a few more features -- especially the IBIS, and it's better ergonomically for using the 100-400m Fuji lens when I head down to the nature preserve near me.

The X100V looks great - freeing up function buttons for macro and converter I used to need on the T, and finally a tilt screen! This camera is the most portable way to do daylight flash at high quality at this price point, with the WCL + TCL it's a very capable system short of buying an interchangeable lens leaf shutter camera for $10k+!
