I bought the camera for its social functionality and ease of use, but most importantly its colours, people get too worked up about specs but at the end of the day, all that matters is ISO, Aperture, Shutter speed and whats in your frame. The colours help to tell the story and I love the film simulation it has, being able to upload straight to my phone without any editing and posting it online is what I need it for.

Things consumers don't understand is that street photography never required the subject being in perfect autofocus, it was more about how the lens rendered the scene of the subject. Film's low grain density was able to record all the tonality it needed from the lens. A simple look at 28mm lens masters' prints or books will tell you all about it: Lee Friedlander, Gary Winogrand for starters.

Great review. Fuji has hidden their version of snap in the manual focus settings. Go to manual, use the manual lens dial to select your snap length, focal length bar is at the bottom and bang it shoots instantly at the distance you've selected. Go back to to auto settings and it remembers your preferred snap length the next time you switch back to manual.

+canturgan you can keep it in manual snap mode. I was trying to say that the x70 remembers the last snap setting you used. For me it's usually 1.5m.. All you have to do is flick the switch to manual and the x70 remembers the last snap setting you used. Exactly the same as switching to s preset mode on the GR. Done differently but works exactly the same.

I love this little camera. I use it for street photography and its next to invisible. I also like the digital tele converter. I can shoot 16mb JPGs at 35mm and 50mm focal lengths with no real loss in quality. I'm impressed by Fuji at how they pull this off. Sure, it would have been nice to be able to shoot at 35 and 50 in raw, but Fuji's JPG's are damn good and I can still shoot raw at 28mm focal length. I also like the articulated touch screen. I use the touch screen only to move my focus point. Not to focus/shoot because the touch/focus/shoot is a bit slow in my opinion. I also use this camera at manual focus most often because it is faster that way. I prefocus at a certain distance, set the aperture to f8 and shutter speed to 1/125 or 1/250 and auto ISO. With the leaf shutter it is just to click away and no one notices the camera. Love it :)

I have never used a Ricoh GR so I can't compare them two. But the ergonomics of the X70 is good, in my opinion, and it feels even better/safer with a wrist strap. I also find that the camera is not small enough to fit into your jeans pockets, unless you have really baggy jeans with big pockets. The camera fits well in a jacket pocket though. But the camera feels good to hold in the hand so I just carry it in my hand all the time when I'm out shooting. And since the camera is so good looking I feel more handsome carrying it in my hand :P I also carry a small messenger bag so I can always put it in there if I want to.

Thanks for the review. I was really hanging out for the X70 due to it being smaller that the X100t and flip & touch screen, however after this I am realizing that 23mm f2 will give significantly better DOF than the 18mm f2.8. Edge sharpness on both cams is so-so. This leaves choice based on 1) size 2) viewfinder 3) LCD features and 4) price Tough call. The there is the XT10 with 27mm pancake (I already own the lens)... Hm.

Hi! I'd like to get a small compact camera that I can carry around all the time, for spontaneous street photography as well as some outdoor shots when I go hiking and whatnot. I got my eyes on the X70 and the X100T, as I really like the design, the clicking aperture ring and the shutter speed dial. Now I'm more keen on the X70 as it's cheaper, more recent, more compact and maybe I can come to terms with the lack of a viewfinder. My other two options at the moment are the Ricoh GR II and the Panasonic GX80. I understand that the RIcoh GR II might be better for picture quality, but I'm having a really hard time giving up on the aperture ring and the shutter speed dial. I keep changing my mind until a point that I need someone to tell me what to do, lol. Any suggestion? Am I missing something else? Or perhaps there is something new that is going to be released soon that might be worth waiting for? Thanks and sorry for the long post!

allagogna did you buy it? Or like what did you buy? Cause I'm looking for a camera i can carry around with me and I'd use it to take some photos with my friends and i would shoot things i like, like my cat and all but i would like a good video quality too and i really don't like editing so I'm really confused cause a lot of people suggested me sony a6000 but I'm not sure about the colour anyways i saw your comment and just wanted to know what you did. Thanks.

Thanks for the vid guys. I'm pretty well set up with MFT but I'd like one Fuji to experiment with. I don't really want to buy into a whole new lens system just yet, so I thought the X-70 might be a good way to go. But after watching this it seems like an x100t, or an X-e2s or X-t10 with a decent prime would be a better idea.

Glad Fuji made this because I hope it destroys sales of the Ricoh GRII. The GRII is, while a good cam, is a dust magnet, with respect to the sensor. I had two, both ended up being returned for dust issues, despite babying them. It is despicable that they released the v.2 without fixing that.

Hey guys, I need some advice. I am looking for a relatively compact camera for under 1K that will be a decent substitute for my Ninkon D750. It needs to be small enough to carry in my purse or a relatively small bag. It will be used for kids, animals, some portraiture and landscape, and random other sightseeing/vacation type stuff. I have the list narrowed down to the following: Panasonic Lumix DMC LX100, Sony RX100 III/IV, or a Sony A6000. I need it to be compact, lightweight and fast, does a good job as a point and shoot but has decent manual controls as well. I do a lot of close-up and macro shooting, so one that can handle macro shots with a lot of yummy blending in the background would be great. Any suggestions would be great, because I need to make a decision fast!

Great job as always guys, except that I just can't understand fascination with "Fuji colors". I own HS10 and XS-1 and just can't see anything remarkable in Fuji color pallete compared to my OMD EM-5 M, D7000 or P900. Granted, sensor sizes are different, but none of the Fujis can better even my MX-1 and that was a $260 camera. and price for X70 over $900 for a camera with no viewfinder , are you kidding me?

I got one of these as an every day carry camera and because I wanted to try a fixed 28 equivalent, a focal length that I've never really gelled with. Every time I pick one up I want to bring it up to my eye before remembering that it has no viewfinder. As for your OVF suggestion, that would be fine except you'd then not know where your focus points are, or your exposure information. As for Acros, the resolution and processor preclude it as an option, something that Fuji state on their site. Now considering whether a X100T would be a better option for me, or will an update to the T use the 24mp sensor?

It's quiet easy. Let's you use aperture priority, and you want your exposure to be half stop brighter or darker but as you know you can't change the shutter speed with aperture priority, exposure comp. will do it for you and it might change the iso instead depending on the situation.
