I have the X70 and I keep considering the GR III, I'd like the snap focus of the Ricoh as I find sometimes the focus on the X70 is too slow for those in the moment shots.

Hey Ali! I get it it...the way I shoot this camera is like I did back in the film days. Always center focal point, focus (shutter half press) and recompose. It allows me to nail exposure and focus every time!

I have a Ricoh 8.1 megapixel GR digital camera and a Fujifilm x10. I use the Fuji for colour and the Ricoh for black and white.

I have to say I'm impressed with your camera knowledge! I hope to be at that level someday. I thought I wanted to lug around gear but quickly realized that I simply love compact cameras. I have an X70 and my favorite feature is touch to focus and snap. I can hold the camera down like an old Rollei and no one knows I'm taking a photo. I had the GRii and wish I never let it go. I would love to simply have both cameras, not sure on GRiii yet. Great video guys and would love to see videos where you show and explain your settings.

I have x70, x100s, and GRIII. For exhibition or museum setting, I shoot with x100s because of its wonderful viewfinder. Colour shots for street, I use x70. B&W street photography, I use GRIII. As per your comment, x70 produces the k just fuji film like images. X100s does the same but it's a bit bigger so/but because of its viewfinder, more constructive photography is possible. GRIII is an amazing B&W snapshot photography camera. When in doubt, I simply bring my GRIII with me.

GR II is the way to go. Picked one up a couple months for 4 bills and i love it better than even the GR III that I had early this year.

It’s a trade off. Bit better ergos on the 2, flash on the 2, colors are different. The GR3 has a better sensor and better AF

Thanks. Both cameras are pretty compact. The tilting touch screen of the Fuji X70 is a bonus of a such compact camera. Combining X70 and XF10 in one camera? What do you think if Fuji combine the design of both 2 cameras in one. Pop-up EVF (or external EFV as option), tilting screen, two focal length like the GR (28mm, 40mm), joystick, PASM dial (vs Fuji X100V dials), one or two command rings (aperture, focus/snap focus), mic and headphone jacks (if possible), IBIS, flash,...

I bought the X70 back in 2016(?) when it was released. I love the camera. It is so descreet to shoot with - with its small size, the silent leaf shutter and the tilt screen. I’m tempted to get a GRIII only because it is even more pocketable than the X70 is, but I’m going to wait until it drops in price a little bit. The X70 still takes great shots.

Very helpful comparisson! I have both cameras. I would go for the x70 if it were pocketable as the gr3 or for the gr3 if it had the flip screen of the x70. Maybe in the next versions.

The X70 lens cap is a work of art that fits onto the lens with a quality you just have to feel…but…its sooo easy to lose:-)))

You can "snap focus" with the X70 too. Just put it in manual focus and set the focus distance to 1.5m or 2m, go F11 or whatever, and there you go. When in manual focus, a distance scale appears on the screen. I've been shooting like this for years and it's the same as snap focus on the GR (I also had it for many years). By the way, the GRII is better than the GRIII, imo. Removing the flash was a big mistake. It is so useful with that leaf shutter, because it lets you use the flash at high shutter speeds, making it easy to overpower the sun. With the GRIII it's ridiculous to see people using it with a flash that is bigger than the camera itself. Wasn't "pocketable" its main selling pont? Why did you make it a 2 pockets camera now? (one for the camera and one for the flash). And removing the flash to add IBIS is even more ridiculous. Why the heck would you need IBIS on a camera with an 18mm lens (28 equivalent) that is mainly thought as a street photography camera? That's the problem. The GR line, since the first analog versions, was always designed as a street photography camera. That was its reason to be. And with the GRIII they had other things in mind, wanting to make it a bit more mainstream, and taking away part of the GRs soul. A pity..

Good video, thanks guys. 👍 Fuji are bananas not bringing an x80 out. Saw one for a suspiciously low price on Facebook the other day but too far away. Hopefully the XE4 coming next month goes back to XE2 quality, not much bigger and may have a new film simulation. They messed up with the 3 imo, like they messed up with the faux x70 follow up XF10, which is only good for still subjects. Like the film sims less on Ricoh, but loved 2 or 3 of them. But I think taking mine to a beach caused erosion which broke it when trying to clean the dust off the sensor. No way could I buy a new one at the very high price because of that. Like he said you can drop Fuji cameras and even submerge in water an XE2 may survive after a week in rice.

As an X-70 shooter I feel full anxiety that he doesn't have a dust filter over the lens. I got gunk in my sensor the first time I put it in my pocket. 😭

Ricoh wins hands down. I thought the Fuji's were a bit overexposed. The Ricohs were also tack sharp. I have Fuji cameras but bought the Ricoh for spontaneity and convenience and have no regrets.

Had the x70, loved the build and flip screen but now I have a Ricoh GR II and I must day the ricoh is much better in terms of ergonomics. If you're used to shooting manual, the snap focus feature is a MUST! For street shooting, the GR wins and is a perfect companion to a Leica M.

Hi Eric I dont know how long you've been using the GR 3 but I was considering buying one but I have been hesitant because of the complaints of dust getting sucked into the lens and the cost of cleaning because it has to be sent to Ricoh. I'm curious if you're experiencing this? For the price of a GR 3 it's somewhat disappointing to read these concerns. I'm beginning to think to consider a Fuji X70 or X100V. Best wishes Duane

@@duanemcclun i think the dust gets in gaps around a dial and maybe a button, someone may have said it cant get in through the lens, which made it even more annoying when the III came out as it sounds like they just needed to guard one or two places.

Great video, guys! I've had a lot of Fuji cameras. The X70 is my favorite and the only one that I haven't sold. It's a great camera, and I will never sell it. I do want to try the Ricoh GR III. Can you think of a scenario where having both cameras would be useful?

Fuji need to release an updated version of the x70 because the 18mm MKII is taking far too long to come out

It will never be as great as the original. The new processors have better dynamic range so they lose that tone curve that makes the X-70 a click and print camera. Really they need to overhaul the tone curve for the newer technology rather than just copy-paste every time, because there's a lot to be said for the native contrast and white point on the old cameras.

We, Japanese say, Fuji XQ1 or XQ2 is much better than GR3. Smaller + Brighter with Zoom and Flash. I already sold my GR3 three years ago, as Fuji X100 V came. GR 3 is really overrated sucks.

people have really lost sense of what the word pocketable means A couple grams is not a deciding factor for me. Nor which pocket it quote fits in. Even with the shoulder bag compared to carrying around a hassleblad on RZ. You really shouldn't be carrying any camera in your pocket don't be surprised if it takes a good bump and your sensor goes

@@x340x the trend for larger sensors in compacts makes them slightly more bulky in form factor than ideal in my view for what it's worth. Because of that I've carried a Canon s120 around in my back pocket since buying it in 2014. It's very unobtrusive, super reliable, takes decent quality images in most scenarios & is always there when I want it. Will it match the low light image quality of the models in the video....no - but I hardly ever shoot in very low light anyway, so it's no biggy :-)
