Great video. Thanks! Just a quick note. This lens is available for E-mount and soon for MFT. The naming convention for those mounts is Fujinon MK18-55mmT2.9. For the FUJI X mount, it adds an X in the name: Fujinon MKX18-55mmT2.9. I just wanted to mention it because if you use the non-X name you may get confused (if you want Fuji mount used in this video) because you will keep coming up with the E-mount.

Fuji needs to go all the way into the cinema world. They already have widely renowned cine lenses, time to add a cine camera with proper cinema codecs. And those green rings on all future lenses, please!

Those green rings are ID for their absolute top of the line lenses (e.g. the XF 200 f/2), I doubt they'll put green rings on all lenses.

I can't find an actual macro ratio, but it should be pretty good. That distance you mentioned includes the lens, from the tip to the image sensor in the camera. So actually it can focus on something as close as about 6 inches from the front lens element, which should be close to 1:1 range, especially being on a crop sensor, it may be slightly over 1:1. If I put my 1:1 Nikon macro lens on my crop sensor D500, I get 1.5:1. So unless I'm missing something, this lens on a crop body should at least be 1:1.

Hello, and thanks for the great review. I recently purchased the XT3 and continue shopping for appropriate accessories. I noticed your mounting plate on the tripod head looks extremely useful. Can you provide a link to where I may investigate further. Thank you!
@grumpywiseguy59925 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the review. My usual KZbinrs never talk about cine lens much. This is a great optic and the XT3 appears to be leading the pack in affordable hybrid video cameras. However from looking at the video, this lens really needs a rig to support it. Looking on Amazon, the lens seems to come with an Arca Swiss type mount, half way down the lens, which I assume is meant for mounting on a rig. In the overall scheme of things, the price is a bargain. The major new full frame cameras all have lens that are in the $2k to $3k price range and more. For what this lens does, it looks like a very good value. Especially with the price of the XT3 taken into account. Try pricing Canon's or Sony's cine lens or Leica anything for that matter. I hope you are in the process of becoming a full time DP. You will be a great one!! Regards from the desert.
@TheHybridShooter5 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, it is not really intended for KZbinrs, since there is no AF and it is not that budget friendly, although it is still a great value in combination with X-T3 or X-H1. It is pretty light, so it is not that front heavy, I unfortunately didn't have tripod collar. I am trying to learn more about filmmaking, although online marking is still my main occupation. Thank you for watching!

I rigged this out. It works really well with smallrig’s dedicated MKX lens support. It is well built and screws into the bottom stem piece the lens comes with.
@dairenn4 ай бұрын
Perhaps it would help researchers to understand that the MK18-55mm T2.9 is the Sony E-Mount compatible lens while the Fujifilm XT3 uses the Fujifilm X mount. To get the same cine lens for the XT3, you need the MKX18-55mm, which has the Fujifilm X mount.

I'm not sure what do you mean by "apparent lens distortion correction", there is probably no distortion correction at all, it is not possible to turn it off.

@@TheHybridShooter from interviews with cined they say that the x mount version has electronic contacts which allow for distortion correction.

I use my X-T4 with a 16-55mm 2.8. Is this MKX lens even better and sharper or is it that the MKX is better build or the parfocal (I don't zoom while filming) you pay. If we only look at image quality, is this lens a big improvement if you have the 16-55mm?

Nice lens... but for a very niche group or someone who has money to burn! This lens may be an option to rent for a film production. Not for me!! I own a Olympus 40-150mm (80-300mm FF) f2.8 and the 2x teleconverter I bought in a package on Amazon. In combinations with my Panasonic GH cameras, it's blows this out-of-the-water! Better built, tack sharp, great colours, rich spherical bokeh, more compact , leighter, and comes weather sealed with a rugged built-in retractable lens hood is hard to beat. Oh... and almost forgot... at almost half the price. Yes I know it's not a Cine Lens however nothing a can't fix in Post or with the right filter :)
