Thank you !!!! I was hesitating with the tamron 150-500 for my xt3, but I'm thinking of going for the 100-400 second-hand anyway, in view of all your sublime videos made with this lens (and the same body for some, by the way haha :) ). What I like about your channel is that you talk according to your feelings and needs. It's up to us whether or not we find ourselves in your words, photos etc... and that's great! In the end, a lot of creators only talk about technology (even if they do it very well), sometimes forgetting the most important aspect for everyone: having fun with photography. Your reviews are great, with lots of images to show us the work you've done! Well done, I hope i’ll like the lens too :D

I am so sorry I have lost this lovely comment amongst my others, thank you for your lovely words. The 100-400 has definitely served me well, it is a great bit of kit. I loved that bit in your comment about feelings and needs, that is so lovely you feel that way it is definitely what I try to put across. To me photography is more about a bit of glass and technology behind it, it’s how you ‘paint’ with it - i like to think of photography as painting art and everyone’s art is individual. It is all about having fun and following your heart. Do let me know how you get on and i’m sure you’ll love it ☺️

@@wildandfreevictoria Thanks for your reply 😊 In my short years of photography, I have acquired a similar way of thinking. Of course we need inspiration from other photographers, not only to get to know ourselves (our tastes and colors), but also to draw on a certain artistic thinking that we can retransmit in our own way on our own photos :) we do some photography to have fun and get excited about the landscape or nature that surrounds us :) So I got my 100-400... and it's just a great lens! It's still a bit hard to understand it, but it'll come :)

Really nicely made review/video and absolutely stunning images. Was originally going to get a Tamron lens adapted for my Canon M50 MK ii for Surf/Wildlife Photography, but after a dude showed me his X-T30 with the Fuji 100-400, I was blown away by the stills and video. Therefore, I'm going to upgrade and switch to Fujifilm cause the images from the XT models look gorgeous! I think I'll probably go for the XT4 cause of the long battery life and IBIS along with the XF 70-300 and then add the 1.4 teleconverter later down the line cause of the practicality. Although, the 100-400 has a really good price on mpb hmmm:). Also, I saw your video with that awesome looking 33mm 1.4 and it is very tempting, particularly with the quality and weather sealing. I love my Sigma 30 1.4 for my Canon and was wondering if you have you tried the Sigma Primes? If so, I was wondering how you think they perform on Fujifilm cameras compared to the native primes? Thanks:).
@wildandfreevictoria Жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and leaving a lovely comment! - and for your very kind words! Yes the X-T30 and 100-400mm definitely pack a punch, a surprising punch of that! I do have a review on the XT30ii which might be helpful in your decision making - or not, but you never know! Ha! Yes the XT4 is a gran option, it is also weather sealed (which is great in all conditions) and has a dual memory card compartment - which I always found super useful on my XT3. I have the 100-400mm, I just came back from a month long trip with it and it was fantastic, I also have vlogs about this if you want to see sample images and there will be lots more stuff on the way. I haven't tried the Sigma primes, I really love the Fuji primes so didn't really feel a need to swap or try other. So I can't give my opinion on Sigma but I absolutely adore my Fuji 23mm f/1.4 WR and the old school 56mm f/1.2. I hope that helps a bit anyway and good luck on your search! Thanks again, Victoria

I am beginning to understand what you said about this lens. I couldn't bond with this lens, and I sold it a few years ago. Now, I am looking for a telephoto lens that has more reach than my 70-300. I really didn't give the 100-400 much of a chance, but now it looks like my best option, and it can be used with the 1.4x teleconverter. I was too hasty.

Always been pleased with the image quality from mine, although (as others have said) having an X-T4 with image stabilisation may be helping. But I will say that the 70-300 gets you close in terms of quality, at a much lower weight to carry. Inevitably you miss the extra reach for some subjects!

I'm a bit late to your video. However, "θεία" (Greek) is a beautiful lens which, as you say, needs practice and stability before she will give of her best. Oddly, l've just sold mine! That wasn't because it was a bad lens, it was just not getting used enough. My style is closer and, often, macro. My 100-400 was more of a luxury lens that l used to amuse myself. I never used it for work because l shoot gigs, parties, celebrations and festivals. You have learned how to get the best out of yours. It is a lens for those fit and strong enough to handle it! Finally, for interest, l struggled a bit when l used it on the X-Pro2 but had no problems with sharpness after upgrading to the X-T4. The lens has OIS and the X-T4 has in-camera stabilisation. The two worked in perfect harmony. I hope you can try out that combination in the future.
@wildandfreevictoria2 жыл бұрын
Hehe thank you for this comment and thank you for using her formal name! It is a beautiful lens but definitely takes time to get used to! ah well that makes sense, there is no point having a lens you do not use, especially as they are expensive! I have never tried a specific macro lens, I have used extension tubes but never a dedicated lens. Yes I can image a telephoto would be a bit difficult shooting at gigs etc. - choice well made I think. Thank you, I have learned her ways and she is a strong lens but so happy I kept her. Ooo that is a very interesting point you make about the X-T4, I was thinking about upgrading but I wasn't too sure if it was worth it, would you say it is? Maybe Fuji will gift me with an X-T4 to try, that would be good 🤓
@alanjacobs92162 жыл бұрын
@@wildandfreevictoria I used the Greek name because l live on the Greek island of Corfu. (being smug!) I think the X-T4 is well worth the upgrade. Although the X-T4 uses the same sensor as the X-T3, the addition of in-body stabilisation gives it a big advantage. All my Fuji primes work slightly better with it - even the original 35mm f1.4 seems a bit quicker and sharper with it. It's also an advantage if you want to use vintage film lenses adapted to the body. Also, the X-T4 has a new battery for better power supply and more shots per charge. Its body is a similar size but with a slightly better grip. Finally the LCD screen is flippable so you can use it for vlogging, for sneaky street photography or to turn it around and hide it completely. I hear it's also much improved for video but l'm not an expert on that. You can see some of my work with Fujifilm and Sony cameras, and some occasional guidance, on my Facebook page facebook.com/alanjacobsispixal

This is really really helpful as I was questioning wether to or not but now I think I will make the leap! Nice review. I have the lens and like you it takes training and practice to get the best out of it. I believe that in using this lens (or any lens), the same four techniques as required by an Olympic rifle marksman are needed, namely: standing, holding, breathing, squeezing (for a rifle trigger, but rolling for a shutter button). Each is a technique in its own right (I could elaborate). In my view and notwithstanding shutter speed or any form of stabilisation, all four aspects must have good technique to obtain a sharp image; conversely, if any one of the four is below par an unsharp image may result (or one misses the target). Your Lake District images are superb (was there last year so can relate t them).
@wildandfreevictoria2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching and for this very interesting comment! You are completely right, I always imagine looking through a scope is quite a similar feeling when using a telephoto lens. I’ve never tried the 100 to 400, so I can’t review it like you have. But I thought long and hard about getting a longer lens than the 90 F2. The main reason I just really love the 90 F2 and see no reason to buy a longer focal length, is because it gets me what I want most of the time. And for those rare moments that I wish I had a longer focal length, I just end up cropping the 90 F2 Image. The weight and size of the lens is perfect for hiking up in the mountains and since I don’t do wildlife, I don’t see it as a deficit. And yes I have shot with longer focal lengths before, specifically I used to have an old Tamron 300 mm F2.8 manual lens. When I was doing fashion photography, I love what I got out of it! Now I use the 90 F2 lens for a lot of street photography and it’s one of my favorite primes for that genre. Yes I would love to have the Fuji 200 F2, but it’s just way out of my price range, but it’s to bulky & heavy for hiking. Now if I had somebody who could carry it for me while I hike 7 or 8 miles, I would be very happy to take it along! 🤣 I think people might be amazed that I only carry two lenses with me when I’m hiking, but I sure feel much better after the hike because of it. The other lens I take is the 16-55 2.8 But now that I have the 18 F 1.4, this may be the third lens I start carrying. 🖖
@wildandfreevictoria2 жыл бұрын
It is a great lens, just takes some time to get used to that is all. I have never tried the 90 f2.0, it does sound like a fabulous lens and a great focal length. Well if it gets you what you need and you can crop and image that is worth the trade off and like you say, saves weight etc. I took my 100-400mm and 8-16mm up Scarfell Pike the other day and it was fun - but no tripod! I have a vlog coming out in the near future about it. I do mention about having a Sherpa, it would be nice hey! I also think you only need 2 lenses with you, I think if you pick them well then that is a good amount to have. Plus, like you say, you want to enjoy your hike and not be breaking your back! I usually opt for my 56mm and 8-16mm but the other day decided to take the telephoto. You have a very good mixture of lenses and I am liking the primes 🤘🏻🤓
