Definitely a chance. Over on Facebook, each post about this new firmware basically has about 25 comments under it, most of which are completely useless, snarky or cynical. It really shows how almost 'political' it gets. Similarly, when youtuber Roman Fox announced a fortnight ago that he's switching from Fuji to Sony he was very shocked by the negative reaction from the community and took his video down etc. I'm glad Pal-2-Tech generally gets decent comments under his vids, so I think he'll geta ton of good feedback on his grid/page.
@robowen34506 сағат бұрын
@@mikefoster6018Agreed and I hope you’re right about the comments for Chris. I was fortunate enough to catch Romans video before he took it down. It didn’t seem to be controversial or provocative just an update on his plans - he’s even posted another Fuji based video since then. The ones that really irritate me are those who announce to the world they’ve changed brands and everything is so much better - big deal - why are they still monitoring Fuji content or forums. I switched cars from Audi to Volvo this year but I don’t go on the Audi forum and sing Volvo’s praises.
@mikefoster60185 сағат бұрын
@@robowen3450 Totally :) My bugbear is how certain youtubers (not Pal-2-Tech here) seem to maintain their narrative/bias so much that you can pretty much guess what their reaction will be to the new firmware. In some cases, they obviously mess up - such as one KZbinr with a lot of followers who was negative about the new X-S20 firmware but didn't seem to realise that having their settings on Wide Tracking meant that it was only face/eye-detecting in the tiny little box in the middle of the screen. (I do wish my X-T5 only did face tracking in whatever size focus zone I'm using, though, as it seems to face track across the entre screen regardless - grabbing faces I don't want it to notice - so I switch off face/eye when there are crowds etc which is most of the time). I thought Roman's points about moving to Sony were great, and his skill set (great manual colour grading skills etc) will suit him well for Sony. For me, I stay with my X-T5 because it's the right weight and ergonomics for my 'walking around with it in my hand' style and because I think the sleight weight saving of crop sensors is worth the loss in low light performance. I was considering an expensive upgrade to the Sony A7CR but it looks less good ergonomically and I think one KZbinr said it has an annoying artificial shutter sound that you can't switch off XD

I submitted the form to help out but figured I'd post here what I wrote on the form additional comments section. Who knows, maybe this helps with exposure. Pre stating this is my own personal experience and might not reflect others experiences with the update. I shoot on an X-T5. I tested with the 33mm F1.4 and new 500mm F5.6 lenses. I shoot both landscapes and wildlife birds mainly, no video. The AF-S performance feels faster and a bit more accurate, definitely snappier than before, and responds well under low light conditions and light changes (tested indoors with the 33mm F1.4 in a dim room with bright windows), I did not feel that it had as many focus misses as it would before, where you'd need to focus on the same area multiple times to make sure it was actually in focus. The speed in which it does so with much less hunting was also a pleasant surprise. The AF-C performance is debatable. On one hand, while shooting birds, it more accurately detected the animal using "Bird Mode" even on forecast conditions (tested outside mid afternoon with cloudy grey skies both fore lit and backlit), and was able to stay locked and track them better, so that's good. However, while locked on a subject, the focus still breathes a lot, sometimes even visibly, which means you get a lot of misses on fast moving and even still subjects. Additionally the AF-C still struggles if the subject isn't clearly visible or has a clear silhouette, and ends up locking on sticks or trees or walls or the background. AF-C settings were: 3x3 zone, AF-C, track sensitivity 4, speed tracking 1, zone area switching Center, Bird Detection, CL Low Speed 7.0fps, AUTO ISO, manual shutter, manual aperture, pre-AF ON. Pre-AF was a disappointment, moving from a focused area to an unfocused one, it takes a good 2-3 seconds for the focus to switch, the hunting is inaccurate, and almost never lands with correct focusing, on top of that the hunting is extremely jerky and "stepped", not smooth at all. Additionally, if you're using AF-C and half-holds the shutter to focus, then moves to aim at an unfocused area, it either A: does not even try to focus on the new area, or B: it does so in a jerky, "stepped" like and very very slow manner (these focus tests I did with the 33mm F1.4). I did not test video, but I'd imagine the pre-af and af-c issues to be a big problem for video if they behave like that.

Why not include the x-h2/x-h2s? The same autofocus algorithm was rolled out in firmware update for those cameras a few weeks ago. I definitely have some opinions on it. It’s slightly better. But my biggest complaint with Fujifilm autofocus is what/who it focuses on. It doesn’t matter what I chose in the settings it’s still all over the place. My subject could be 10 feet in front of a group of people and even with “front” chosen in the settings it will still pick up on people in the background. Front, center, auto, it doesn’t matter. Same exact result on all 3 settings. It’s like that setting doesn’t actually do anything.

Many, many thanks, Chris, for this good news ! As others have mentioned, you're the reason many of us are sticking with Fuji. I have to wonder what happened to their customer focus. In the past they were issuing top notch firmware updates on a frequent basis. But those days seem to be over. I tried twice to get their *customer service* people to give me an ETA on the X-T5 firmware update and both times I got no help. What I did get was rude, impatient, rough on rats ! I have the XT-5. I’m not a professional so just family and shots. Always found the XT-5 has good AF-S but the AF-C got progressively worse as updates were made. I have used it with the new firmware briefly and I can confirm that AF-C for stills seems much improved. Still not perfect but I don’t expect that. I love the camera and that AF isn’t perfect does not bother me. Using the XF 18-55 f2.8-4 and XC35 f2. Also should mention that I haven’t seen any issues or bugs with the new firmware.

For street photos or people and vehicles moving etc. To me, it now seems good with AF-C and sticky compared to what I remember from before. My settings are AF+MF switched off, 'focus priority' (not shutter priority), 'cheetah' custom tracking mode and usually medium focus zone that I happily move with the joystick. Using the Fuji 33mm f1.4 lens.

Fujifilm stated a partially revised AF & tracking algorithm. So small expectation only. IMO, though Fuji never had the best AF, introducing of the various subject tracking features was when issues started. AF software somehow is not able to integrate well, with many of the sensor/lens/processor combination. I don't believe that they are not trying, may be it is currently a losing battle. May be till the new generation of sensor & processor and software are introduced.

This is a continuous cycle that Fujifilm has been doing years (stringing the users along in anticipation of the next Firmware to fix issues that were not fixed in the previous firmware). I sold my X-T5, X-H2S, and XPro3, along with 10 premium Fujifilm Lenses and the Viltrox 7mm f1.2. I love this channel and will continue watching it despite. As far as Fujifilm AF I have given up, my last project using a X-H2s was a partial disaster, the green box showed focused on the subject, but when I uploaded to my PC some of the images were out of focus. I used the latest 56mm f/1.2 lens, and 35mm f/1.4 both at f/2.8. Any old camera would have nailed these shots using continuous AF without issues. This problem cost me quite a bit of money, not to mention embarrassment and lack of future project from that customer. I have gone back to using manual focus and a different brand and couldn't be happier. I know what I am focusing on, and nail focus 100% of the time. Why didn't I stay with Fujifilm and use manual focus lenses? Because I am very upset with Fujifilm, and I don't feel I should give them my business for many reasons including the AF issue. Happy Holidays!
