Never thought about that zebra trick before; I've always used them as a warning for highlight clipping and set them at 90%. What a great idea for cameras without a false colour mode.

This is interesting, thanks for sharing. If you're shooting with a Ninja V, you could set the Ninja zebras to 90 or 100 (whatever your clipping threshold is) and set the zebras on the Fuji to 70 for skintones.

Thank you so much for admitting right in the beginning that you messed up quite some shots by not setting the exposure right. This is probably true to everyone but it is good to hear it out loud and think: I am not the only one.

Great tips dude! The zebras at 70% is a great idea. I’m often setting up my XT3 for my wife’s KZbin channel but sometimes mess up the exposure. This’ll help loads. Thanks!

If we are using a passport grey tone 18% - does the Log viewing modes affect the Ninjas false color ? I wonder… great idea for using the zebras at 70%.

Thanks for the great tips! I have a question, but more related to career. I'm currently lost, not sure if I want to do things like product, or real estate, or other stuff. I only have a camera and a tripod now, and was thinking about getting some new gear (studio setup or gimbal) but it's really expensive. And my friend advised me to only buy it when I have confirmed work in a certain genre, so I don't waste money on gear I don't use. However, there are some things that are very gear reliant (gimbal for real estate, lights/studio setup for products/food, etc). How should I invest in gear, but in a minimalist way? I need to improve my portfolio as it currently is mainly travel, gym/workout, lifestyle shots. But to improve my portfolio I kinda need gear. Problem is I lost my full-time job and I'm not sure if it's a good idea to spend big money now.

Hey Tim, I just wanted to clarify. Would you set your zebras at 70% for Eterna (Eterna only. Not f-log)? Or is 70% only for skintones with a log profile? Thanks!

I’m getting lot of noise in Flog.. Exposure in histogram looks good.. but still lot of noise even in not bad lighting conditions

Thanks for your videos Tim, you are my main reference to know better my XT-4. I have a question for you, i already had my zebra on 70% when i use F-Log mode, but sometimes i think it could be better the result ( already quite ok though) and i was thinking about to maybe use the compensation dial to add it to zebra setting, +1 or something like this. Do you recommend it ? Thanks in advance.

newbie question in outdoor shoot video by using zebras to check you exposure its ok to use variable nd filter?
@Tim-Koenig2 жыл бұрын
Sure! The zebras will just check the image which gets through the lens, so in this case it will judge the brightness with the Nd filter

thanks again Tim, great upload as always. I always here that you should over expose log just a bit. Is there some truth to that? and if that is the case how much is a little? Maybe as you showed with the skin tones ? Take care
@neoterixx34404 жыл бұрын
@@Tim-Koenig yes true that it depends on the situation. I guess one needs to experiment some more in different situations and get to know the camera inside out. But damn I love the xt4 😍 thanks once again Tim. Looking forward to more of your content.

Did you say “if you see zebras on the skin, you get the correct exposure?” (Time line 2:50)

@@Tim-Koenig so what you are saying to expose to the right a bit but not too much. Will def play around with that. Thanks

@@Tim-Koenig got it, I never used F-log or any log profile cause I don’t do any professional work but for the Fuji to make my life easy since it has the film simulations. Learning color grading now and have my eyes on Z-Cam E2 S6 cinema camera.

@@rodricfrancis2281 if I may: you might want to film at a higher f-stop, which would bring more things into focus. In this clip, if you look at the scene with the logo of your coffee maker, it's not in focus, as you filmed at a slanted angle. In the scenes with your jacket, it looks much sharper. Just my 2 cents!

@@manoleasa25 hi, thanks for your feedback. You are right! When I was shooting that short I was shooting at low f stop. Through mistakes over the last few months I have learnt to shoot with a higher f stop and be braver using higher ISO.
