Nice overview Lee. The images the come from the GFX cameras never cease to amaze me. The detail sharpness is so good yet very natural looking. I always wonder if Fuji will ever be able to create a GFX camera that can compete financially with the FF market. But, not sure they would want to because then they'd be competing with their own APCS flagship cameras too. Thanks again, have a great week.

If they ever did go full frame they would have to build out an entirely new lens ecosystem. Not saying they won’t. But it would take years to get a lens line up compatible to the competition. It’s kind of cool they just went straight to medium format. It’s just tough to justify the price for most people. If they come out with a 50mp version of this camera for like $5000 then I think we have a winner

Every time a new GFX camera comes out I think, “Wow I’ll probably buy the next one after this, so it can improve a bit more” and never actually do. Seems like it’s getting really close to being an all around hybrid

100% this camera and autofocus but with 50mp sensor would be ideal. 100mp is overkill on most things. Even my m1 ultra Mac Studio shows some slow down with the files.

Thanks for your excellent review/intro to this awesome camera, Lee! As I’m a 100% stills photographer, I was wondering how the stills image quality, I. e., sharpness and detail retention compare to, say, the 100% stills camera like the Hasselblad X2D.

I had one for a while, but had some issues using autofocus on anything other than still subjects. Still the best photos I have seen, but odd autofocus considering the video autofocus is decent

It’s still going to be slow compared to most full frame cameras out right now. But I also think it depends on the lens. I found the new 55mm was slower than the 32-64mm

Same experience from my very limited exposure to this beast, image quality is absolutely FANTASTIC, but AF/Tracking is still miles behind anything on the market, so Fuji has some more work to do in this area, hope some Firmware upgrade can improve it a bit.

Man, it'd be a dream if this camera could internally shoot open gate full 16-bit raw video and proxy prores 422 simultaneously. I mean, the cfexpress type b should be able to handle the speed, but I don't know if the processor and heat management could do it.

I'm a landscape photographer and I did consider this camera, but I went with the 50 instead and I don't regret my choice. The 50 S2 is the little brother of this camera and it definitely is not in this league but it's still very good. I would edge people if you are looking at getting into GFX cameras. Definitely check out the 50 are the 50 S and the 50 S2 as they are fantastic cameras Honestly if you can't afford this model, then look at one of the lower models as they are also fractionally better in low light because they have less pixels and the GFX lenses are where the juices at people this is where it will make you some money the GFX lenses are expensive, but once you start getting a bit of work with your camera you'll make it. Counterpoint: I do NOT recommend checking out the 50s ii. I bought and returned it recently - the sensor is really showing its age. Coming from full-frame and iso performance is quite poor from the 50 sensor line. 100s might be worth the extra money

Its an amazing camera. So easy to edit. Only thing is driving me crazy, the microphone levels not showing up on outside screen. Other than that "I Love It"

I just saw another review of this fantastic camera and made some comments there, so I will just do a copy and paste here instead of typing it all over again: A friend of mine just replaced his original GFX100 with the version II, and I have a chance to play with it few weeks ago when we did some shoot out, image quality is as fantastic as expected, the color, the resolution, what's not to like? coming form all kind of high end FF, A7R IV, 7RV, Z9, Z7, 1Dx..... I simply love what this new camera offers. ergonomic is also greatly improved, not a Z9 or R3 kind of comfort, but it's really day and night better than the old model, I found the old GFX 100's vertical grip is juts so horrible. However, even they claimed the AF has significant upgrade, I still feel it way way behind when it comes to shooting anything that moves, the eyes focus is still a hit and miss game, tracking a moving car, bikers, the focus always got confused and jumping around between different target, and more often than not, lost the target at the end. I understand this is by no mean a " sports camera", but I think it's still a little too crazy to have this kind of AF performance out of a camera cost $7500 in 2024. I do like what the camera produces in terms of image quality, just wish they did a little more on the focus system. With that being said, I think I still will add one to my bag, because I have 1Dx and Z9 and tons of super telephoto lenses already for those applications that need the reach and speed. especially now with the new 30mm Tilt Shift lens, it will be perfect for my landscape application, currently have a full set of Canon Tilt Shift lens so I am huge fan of tilt-shift lenses. 30mm MF ( 24mm FF equivalent) is not always wide enough but a good starting point, two more lenses I really want Fuji to produce is the FF 14mm F1.4/1.8 equivalent for my Milky Way shots, and a 24ish mm MF Tilt/Shift equivalent to my Canon 17 TSE, then I will be a happy Fuji GFX shooter.

I have a gfx 100s and my dream camera that I can aford it will be a camera with the spec of gfx 100 ii (the big sensor, 16 bit colour the better autofocus) but with 50mpx and body the kind of the gfx 50r (with the old school dials). I will buy it today price in 4500 range.

I'm with you. I have a 50sII, don't want more Mpx, just want a phase AF, a bit faster camera for street , 16-bit would be awesome (and ideally in the rangefinder design). Problem is there's no new 50mpx BSI stacked sensor which would allow phase AF. And recently sb from Fuji talked about the fact that 50Mpx cameras aren't a priority as that's a standard in Full Frame now so would be hard to market it.

I stopped uploading images for people to look at because I found a whole bunch of people stealing calling it their own work and even finding stuff on sites where they were selling it. Obviously the model doesn’t consent to that and got me in trouble. So I stopped doing that and now only show results on KZbin, instagram and X

I bought the GFX 100s after your last video.... it pushed me over the edge. This seems a correct a few of the annoying elements of the previous......... BUT do I really need to spend £7.5k on another body. No............. maybe one day on the 2nd hand market like I successfully did on the previous model :) Cheers boss

"recorded in 8k" checks KZbin for 8k 😮 I am impressed you took the time to upload a proper 8k copy 🎉. KZbin seems to compress the background really badly with some odd crosshatch artifacts but the foreground is stunning in true 8k. Well done ❤.

As to the compression it seems KZbin is less violent with HDR content but getting that uploaded is a totally different story. I have videos languishing for over a week before they will pop in with no communication to you it just happens.

lyou can only do this on the gfx line. But it does make the camera more compact. And there’s also a different evf with a swivel attachment

What Fuji tended not to mention was that, if you want to shoot at 8fps, you'll be shooting in 12-bit.

I’ve owned 3 phase systems. P65+ P30+ and IQ350 XF. I’ve traveled the world with them and used on countless commercial jobs. The bodies are so sub par. The focusing system even on the XF is a joke. That’s why the commercial crews use Hasselblad bodies with IQ backs. But now with the simplicity and reliability of the GFX system it’s a no brainer. Plus budgets in today’s world make it a rare option we even need medium format when you have cameras like the R5. You’re conflating revenue from Subscription based income via CaptureOne with sales of their camera systems. There’s a big difference. The reign of Phase dominating the medium format market is over. Hasselblad as well…

The problem with Fuji is they keep nerfing the AF of their lenses for the GFX. THey are just plain idiots. They improve the AF of the GFX100 ii BUT they opted to use crappy focus motors instead of linear ones for the 55 1.7 and 80 1.7 . It's just plain DUMB. Especially since the older 110mm F2 has fast linear focus. They should just fire everyone or close down. People who buy the GFX would 100% be ok with paying more for better AF with the core lenses. People waited so long for a 55 1.7 and 80 1.7!

Yeah I noticed the 55mm was noisy and choppy, I didn’t have time to make a review on it but I did use it with the camera. they do the same thing with the lenses for the X mount too. Some have linear motors some don’t. The performance is drastically different from lens to lens so it’s hard when reviewing new camera bodies

@@LeeZavitz yeah this is why I left fuji a fee years back. They kept upgrading the XT body AF and I kept buying but bit it took forever to upgrade the 35 1.4 and 56 1.2 AF . Two of most important core lenses for weddings!
