Fujifilm X-App | Why Can't Camera Companies Make a Good App???

Alright, a few days in and I got it to work on my X-E4 and the Xiaomi 13 Pro, but the X100V wouldn’t connect to it. I reset the X100V as well as made sure the app and even my iOS was up to date, but still no dice for the iPhone at all or the X100V. They all connect to Bluetooth though and I have private browsing, VPN, and IP tracking turned off as well. I also disconnected all cameras from phones and vice versa AND took them out away from everything else and other devices. Still nothing, but I’m hoping!

They just released an update to the app. Still doesn't work on my XT3, unfortunately.

I used the old Fujifilm app to update the firmware on my x-e4 and then downloaded the new X app and I was able to connect my camera to the X app on my iPhone 12. I like how you can preview all the pics on your phone before downloading/transferring to the phone. It works really quickly and will connect automatically if you turn your phone off.

I was able to connect my both of my XT-3 camera bodies to the new app. I still have some issues with the WiFi connection sometimes. This may be an issue with my home WiFi system & not the app itself.

I did the firmware upgrades and downloaded the app. It's 100% on both my X-E4 and my X-T5. Both seem to pair when turned on and downloads work fine. Also the remote function is fine. I'm hearing lots of successes, not sure what happened for you.

The XApp worked with my X-E4 and my X-H2S. The old app rarely ever worked with my X-E4, but it worked fine with the X-H2S. I could use the remote functions with the X-E4 and X-H2S including remote monitoring and downloading. I guess it's still hit and miss but I'm happy it works with mine :)

Works perfect with my H2s and an Iphone 11Pro and IPad Pro. Downloaded and installed yesterday. Activities and timeline sync perfect between the both IOS devices. Saved settings are only on the device were the save was made. So you can save and restore different custom settings easily. Much better than the previous app. Stable and quick.

I had the same problem with the wifi not connecting when I tried the app yesterday. I don't know if the same reason it didn't work is the same for you, but in my case the issue was that the camera and the phone had already been paired before through the older app. Once I unpaired them in the camera menu and paired them again using the new app, everything worked like a charm. Huge improvement compared to the older app.

The only company that got their app right is Panasonic, their "Image App" does not require turning on all your sensors (wifi, bluetooth, gps) just the wifi... it latches instantly, and it works flawlessly every time... while still avoiding consuming too much battery from your phone. The other really impressive app I tried is for a Xiaomi Yi 4K action camera which was released now 6 years ago... talking about "devolving". Sony, Canon, Fuji never worked out for me and this new XApp is currently not compatible for my Android phone... luckily I stumbled across your video and didn't spend time and took chances upgrading the firmware.

yeah, I’m surprised you had trouble with this because I set up the app yesterday with both my XT4’s my ex E4 and my ex pro three and all four cameras work flawlessly with this app transferring photos live you for shooting and everything works perfectly fine for me

One thing to check... on you iPhone tap the "I" icon next to the wifi network that the camera creates and make sure "Private Wi-Fi Address" is not toggled on... That will cause issues connecting

Hi there, I tried it yesterday with my two Fujifilm cameras X100V and XT5 and it worked seamlessly. The remote, the transfer of images ( you get to chose the full size or smaller size) and also as monitoring your videos and photos. So I guess I was lucky with that 😁

Worked fine for me on X100V and XT4 connecting to iPhone 14 Pro Max. Tested for a few days now since release…… no issues whatsoever. I do have all latest firmware, camera and lens etc and latest iOS.

I tried yesterday with my XT5 and had no issues with any function. Remote shutter, geotagging in the camera, downloading photos, etc. all were flawless. Just tried to use it again after watching this and it all still works for me. I don't have too many photos on my SD card though, so idk if that makes any difference?

Just synced 2 X-T3 cameras on the phone and it worked flawlessly. I can only guess the issue is with a setting on your phone.

From my experience with an x100v and an xt3 there is often a need to restart Bluetooth in both my phone and camera after the app is already open. It works for me every time.

In my X-S10 worked flawlessly - but when I've reconnected to Camera Remote for a comparison, when I tried to return to the XApp, had that wifi not connecting problem. Restarting the camera solved it, but I saw too that when the camera is connected to one app, it did not recognize the other. A good rule would be reset all the Bluetooth pairings in the camera and the camera pairing on the phone. Restart both, too - the XApp likes to run VERY hidden in the background. Is more stable, the live view shooting is MUCH better (was the major problem that I had with Camera Remote), but most of the features are the same - XApp looks a revamped version os Camera Remote instead of a rewrite. New firmware probably plays a part too - now there is a icon showing when the camera and the app are connected.

No issues with my X100v and the X-App. Works like a charmp which truly surprised me as the older Fuji app is an utter piece of junk. Unsure what happened in your case.

It worked on my X-S10, but it’s not much better than the old app. Plus it stores and transfers so much location data. Nice for knowing where your photos were taken, but I’m worried about excessive battery consumption

I have the older X-E3 and using the 'Cam Remote' is hit or miss, Bluetooth connects fine for things like GPS logging or remote triggering but connecting to the photo album is usually a pain in the ass. But I did find a way to make it work, somewhat. If you enable the "automatic transfer" option, the camera sends whatever photos you just took unto the phone in the background, while it sleeps. It "works" but the battery drains way faster.

Mmm It's better than before, but it still needs to improve the interface to record video. the screen needs to rotate horizontally, focus speaking needs to be added, focus confirmation to make it better. It's a breakthrough.

X App reappeared this evening (May 25, 2023) - EST. Downloaded it and then updated the firmware on my XT-30II. Paired immediately with all functions working. From some light reading, FUJI had to pull it sometime yesterday from the app stores to correct a software bug. Maybe it's fixed, or I just received a good copy of the app.

I was able to get it to work on my X100v/IPhone 14 Pro Max. The first time it said that it had acquired the 60 photos on my camera but it didn’t. I thought that maybe it created a new gallery. I tried again and it finally downloaded the my pictures. IMO, it is not worth the hassle. It’s is much easier to just pop the card out and download the images. The only benefit I see is the easy firmware upgrades when you do connect.

On the iPhone, I've found that the secret to get the Wifi transfer working near 100% of the time is to go into the Wifi Settings of the camera's wifi network and to turn OFF Private Wi-Fi Address. I'm guessing the software depends on specific IP addresses to connect and that setting seems to play hell with it. Once I did that, I've been able to connect (using both the old CameraRemote app and the new XApp) flawlessly.

Interesting! I've noticed also that I can get the Wi-Fi connection working by stepping away from any known Wi-Fi networks on my iPhone. On Android for instance there was an OS setting to tell the phone to stay connected to the camera Wi-Fi Network even if there was no internet connection available. Hope the OS manufacturers can help with the Wi-Fi connectivity issues. It's interesting that all camera manufacturers had/have the same issue and very few were able to fix it.

Old app worked on and off.. I tried every time I needed a photo, sometimes it just worked and every other time it didn’t. Mediocrely excited to try the new app but my bet is that it won’t work either. Also, I just realized that the photo transfer only worked the first few times I connected and transferred but since then, it’d stopped. Is it the cache that gets filled and never cleared? Or like a cheap old wifi bit?

I thought other camera brand apps were hopeless until I came to Fuji but the previous one was abysmal with unreliable connection. I got this new one to connect with my X-E4 and it seems slightly more reliable than the previous version connectivity wise but still way worse than the Olympus and Pentax apps I also use. It’s terrible that you can’t even review the app features because it won’t connect reliably. That’s kind on the basic requirement of a device app - to be able to connect to the device 😂

My X100v and iphone 14promax had zero issues once downloading the new firmware and installing the X-app. I did clear out my bluetooth paring on my X100v first though. If you run into troubles, maybe try that?

Indeed, in my experience the Leica app is the only one that seems to work well. I haven’t got experience with the new Sony Creator app. Fuji was and still is horrible. Even when you don’t use wifi, the BT sucks. It requires to set Location access on Always instead of When app is used. This drains your phone and is a security risk. My take-away is that these camera manufacturers don’t have good software-developers. Esp. for app-dev. I know Leica has set-up a separate team of specialists for app dev. Their regular engineers just wouldn’t cut it. Apparently, Fuji (like many Japanese companies) think that regular full stack software engineers can build apps. Also look at the menus of these brands: horrible. Never designed from the viewpoint of a user, but always like a product engineer looking to cram in as many features as possible. UI/UX and app dev is a separate skill and Fuji clearly doesn’t get that.

The new app is definately a step above the old...However...Heres where Fuji missed the mark. Transfering files to Ipad or phone, can only control camera with the app. Had they allow direct camera control with tranfer, there would be no need for tethering with C1. Better, but needs improvement.

Kind of lame, I downloaded on launch and it works totally fine with my X100V. Encountering an issue at launch then releasing a statement was definitely unfortunate. Although for those who could get access to the XApp, FujiFilms site has clear instructions on steps to take for compatibility and troubleshooting which was super helpful. Follow the instructions and it should be good. If it doesn’t work it’s safe to reset your connection settings and repair the device. Pressing the same button over again might be the issue. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

As a mobile software engineer for over a decade, I’ve been continually disappointed in Fujifilm’s apps. I think it boils down to lack of investment. I’ve never seen job postings listed for mobile engineers (and I’ve followed it closely because I’d love to work for them), which leads me to believe they have non-specialists building these apps. “It’s all software”, right? Wrong. There is a definite art to mobile app design and development and it’s unfortunately a place many companies choose to skimp on because the apps themselves don’t bring in any revenue.

It is difficult to stress just how much the old Fujifilm app sucked. It´s been months since I could get it to pair with my x-e4. Thank the powers that be that they´ve finally done something. It´s been especially dissappointing with Fujifilm because they have so much potential in regards to film simulations and processing and other fun stuff that could make their App truly amazing. Imagine being able to use the app to test recipes etc. Remember to update your cameras before trying the App, everybody!

so annoying how bad these apps are lol. I will say, one thing i've noticed with the old app is that if, in iOS settings, in Wifi for the wifi network that the camera creates; you wanna make sure the features "Limit IP Address Tracking" and "Use Private Wifi Address" are turned off - since a camera doesn't have the capability (or need) to work with these features they evidently get in the way of the phone establishing a connection to the wifi network. I would presume this issue will persist with the new app (I was too late and they had already removed the app from the store so I haven't tested).

You could be in a wifi busy spot
