Hi, Love your delivery. I started out on a XPro one after memories of my mums old Agfa. Fuji reminded of the old cameras. When through X pro one, Xt1, Xt2, XPro 2, Xt3, X100T,F,V, XE range. Then i discovered sony and jumped to mirrorless. As my skills developed I went away from the dial, old school style and worked as a pro for a few years. Recently I picked up the Xs10, I have to say I think Fuji have nailed it to a large degree, I think most photographer like the idea of all the dials but in reality just want to keep their eye in the viewfinder whilst adjusting settings. This Fuji is a nice marriage of old Fuji and more modern dials. The biggest thing I love about this camera is the feel in the hand. It’s such a nice thing to hold. I think for the money its a great choice. You can customise this thing to work just so. I love this camera and I can’t wait to see what they do with both updates and new versions once they get all the customer feedback., Well done Fuji, A for effort.

Maarten, I've just discovered you due to my trusty 6 year old X-T1 dying on me last week! I somewhat rashly went out and bought an X-S10 without any real research! I'm not a pro but have a decent following on IG and an upcoming print show the summer. I'm also just realizing that what I thought was a brand new Fuji is a year old already! I've never responded to one of these talks before, but you are refreshingly mature and calm compared to the young upstarts! I had developed a limited but reliable technique with the X-T1, basically everything manual, but now am in shock from all the options and the "hated" need to go back to menus, the lack of which is what led me to Fuji! I've never owned a DSLR but fell into photography shooting moths on flight during a plague of Gypsy Moths in upstate New York. My Canon G9 and later, G15 was all I had. So there seems to be too many options here, for my old technique to even function! ( I am also a musician having similar problems with the music software that I opted for to make my 2nd album in Covid isolation!) Too many choices!

@@MaartenHeilbron By the way, right now, I'm watching one of your "Oldie but Goodie" videos regarding the Sony RX-10 Mark IV. I'm still shooting with the original RX-10 (I guess they call it a "legacy") Anyway, I found your discussion of the IV, actually pretty useful; plus I share your love-hate relationship with Sony's crazy menu layout. Nevertheless, despite its limitations, my camera has given me many years of use. A while back, I talked with you about upgrading to the XT-4, but decided it was too expensive. The X-S1 seems like it might be a better fit for my budget. Again thanks for replying to me so quickly!

Which kit lens ? Thank you for your preview of the X-S10. Apologies if this question has already been covered. As the X-S10 has IBIS am I paying an unnecessary premium for the F/4 16-80mm with OIS. No shutter duration on the left dial. You don't need a focus zoom button - just turn on focus check and the image punches in as soon as you turn the focus ring. So far, I've had to reassign WB to the video record button, otherwise that's a menu dive.

It appears that the X-S10's viewfinder is the same as those on the X-T30 and its predecessors. Hi Maarten, I wonder if you can help. I took photos with Fujifilm xs10 using FINE+RAW image quality. Then I copied photos to my Macbook Air using USB CARD READER as connection mode. Now when I open Apple Photo app each photos has JPEG+RAW shown on it. After that I wanted to use Fujifilm X Raw Studio to edit RAW photos. I changed Connection Mode on my camera to USB RAW CONV/BACKUP RESTORE, then connected camera to Macbook using cable, opened X Raw studio, but I cannot see any RAW photos. I must have done something wrong, but don't know what. Can you help? By the way, Raw Recording on my camera is switched to LOSSLESS COMPRESSED. Thank you so much for you assistance/guidance!!!

X-RAW studio does not import images. You have to import them to your computer first, and then open them with X-RAW. You do have to have your camera connected to use X-RAW, so this is misleading.

The X-H1 does seem to be an outlier - but there is a fix if you. can get it to a Fujifilm repair depot. The X-S10 requires the standard pressure to release, I haven't accidentally triggered it yet.

@UCcr0eYDUCpH5pFjFCq4j6EA Maybe my answer was not clear. The X-S10 is like other X-T cameras. However, you have misinterpreted the action of the X-H1. It does, in fact, have a half-press position, it's just very sensitive. That sensitivity can (now) be adjusted at a Fujifilm repair shop.

Great review, Maarten - snappy & pointed. The X-S10 seems to win on the big specs and even many lesser ones, but for me it falls down on some details. I don't actually mind the lack of an ISO dial, a shutter speed dial, and an exposure compensation dial. I don't mind the design of the body. In fact, I love the big grip - finally! The older battery is OK with me, as I have many of them. But I don't like the lack of the focus mode dial on the front of the camera, the relatively low-res LCD, the middling EVF with its short 17.5mm eyepoint (I wear glasses always), the restriction of the C1 to C4 custom modes to stills only, and (very picky now) the lack of screw threads for a decorative shutter button. But most annoying is that the front and rear control dials can't be customized to work the way all my other Fuji cameras work. This seems like a real misstep. At first I was pretty sure I'd pre-order the X-S10. Now I'm not so sure. In fact, I doubt it.

@@MaartenHeilbron Upon further study, I've decided to purchase an X-S10. I've watched and read a bunch of reviews, including yours, and I've studied the user manual. I did my usual written analysis of pros and cons. One of my biggest concerns was whether I could set up the camera to be ergonomically efficient and not too different from my other Fuji cameras. While I won't be able to use the front command dial for ISO as I do with other Fuji cameras, I can assign ISO to one of the rear buttons, which should suffice. Given the number of programmable buttons (plus the Fn dial), I believe I can set up the camera to work for me. In fact, I've already decided how to customize those controls! Although I made a sizable list of cons for the X-S10 (ranging from larger issues down to every little annoyance), none of them are fatal and the pros outweigh them. Just a guess: the PASM dial is to make the camera more comfortable for customers switching from other brands. It's a negative for me. Loved this review. I'm a Nikon crop DSLR user but was planning on switching to mirrorless as I'll be doing hybrid shooting. Fuji makes amazing crop sensor cameras but is it viable if there's no full-frame option to upgrade to in the future?

Why do you feel that you will need to change to full frame in the future? Why not do it now?

Great video! Thanks Maarten. I am an X-T3 owner myself and sometimes feel it’s too much of a camera for me. I am mainly into Street photography and Travel. For both I use the X100V or Ricoh GR II with a lot of joy, due to the size and photo quality. But having also an interchangeable lens Body around gives me the flexibility that I sometimes need. The size of the X-S10 together with the more simpler, automatic orientated design is very appealing. Which one would you recommend for travel, street, and occasional portraits shooting? Can’t wait for the full review! Thanks again! Goed gedaan! 👍🏻

Veel bedankt voor uw vriendelijke commentaar. Lots of factors, hard to find the right combination to suit those requirements. For a small travel camera, I actually preferred the X-E3. Should finish the full review in the next few days.

Can you hear the IBIS noise when you look through the viewfinder? That really annoys me with my X-H1 ...
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 3 жыл бұрын
There is a very, very faint motor/fan noise which I can hear only when I put my ear to the lens, not when shooting with the viewfinder. It does not seem to be related to either the focus engine or stabilization.

Hello! Great review but seeing all of these videos on my recommended page has been leaving me with one big question. With the price of the x-t3 coming closer and closer to that of the x-t30 and now the price of this new x-s10, which would you recommend? The X-T3 or the new X-S10 and why?
@MaartenHeilbron
@MaartenHeilbron 4 жыл бұрын
The X-T3 is for several reasons, including better video features with higher bandwidth; more physical controls; easier handling, the best of these three.

@@MaartenHeilbron That's what I was thinking. I just find it strange that all of these cameras are in such a similar price bracket. Thanks for the help!
