Hi, Love your delivery. I started out on a XPro one after memories of my mums old Agfa. Fuji reminded of the old cameras. When through X pro one, Xt1, Xt2, XPro 2, Xt3, X100T,F,V, XE range. Then i discovered sony and jumped to mirrorless. As my skills developed I went away from the dial, old school style and worked as a pro for a few years. Recently I picked up the Xs10, I have to say I think Fuji have nailed it to a large degree, I think most photographer like the idea of all the dials but in reality just want to keep their eye in the viewfinder whilst adjusting settings. This Fuji is a nice marriage of old Fuji and more modern dials. The biggest thing I love about this camera is the feel in the hand. It’s such a nice thing to hold. I think for the money its a great choice. You can customise this thing to work just so. I love this camera and I can’t wait to see what they do with both updates and new versions once they get all the customer feedback., Well done Fuji, A for effort.

Maarten, I've just discovered you due to my trusty 6 year old X-T1 dying on me last week! I somewhat rashly went out and bought an X-S10 without any real research! I'm not a pro but have a decent following on IG and an upcoming print show the summer. I'm also just realizing that what I thought was a brand new Fuji is a year old already! I've never responded to one of these talks before, but you are refreshingly mature and calm compared to the young upstarts! I had developed a limited but reliable technique with the X-T1, basically everything manual, but now am in shock from all the options and the "hated" need to go back to menus, the lack of which is what led me to Fuji! I've never owned a DSLR but fell into photography shooting moths on flight during a plague of Gypsy Moths in upstate New York. My Canon G9 and later, G15 was all I had. So there seems to be too many options here, for my old technique to even function! ( I am also a musician having similar problems with the music software that I opted for to make my 2nd album in Covid isolation!) Too many choices!

@MaartenHeilbron4 жыл бұрын
No shutter duration on the left dial. You don't need a focus zoom button - just turn on focus check and the image punches in as soon as you turn the focus ring. So far, I've had to reassign WB to the video record button, otherwise that's a menu dive.

The X-H1 does seem to be an outlier - but there is a fix if you. can get it to a Fujifilm repair depot. The X-S10 requires the standard pressure to release, I haven't accidentally triggered it yet.

Hi Maarten, when paired with a 16-55, I'm wondering if you think there is enough space/clearance for the hand? I have used an XT30 with 16-55 and I imagine having a deep grip on XS10 would feel much better. However, based on camerasize.com comparisons, I am not quite sure there is much space between the lens and the grip when paired with a 16-55. I suppose it depends on hand size (my fingers are small/slim). Wondering if you tried putting a 16-55 on it and how it felt? Thanks, love your videos and tutorials!

Everyone would love to have a camera that you describe. Not yet. Both of those are good choices. Generally, for vlogging you’ll want a wide lens. the 18-55 is a good choice for this camera. Hi Maarten, thanks for the detailed review. I think you mistook the 23mm f/1.4 for the f/2.0, though. The f/2 doesn't have a manual focus clutch and is smaller than the lens shown in the video. Anyway, I got a question: How did the handgrip feel with somewhat larger lenses like the 16-80mm f/4 (or even larger, if you have tested it with any)? Is there still enough space between the grip and the lens for "average-sized" fingers? Thanks, Timo

You are correct, sorry was in a hurry. It's fine with the 16-80 (the one I'm holding in the video) but the XF16-55 is just slightly too big - I can get my fingers in, but they're right up against the lens. I think my fingers are pretty average.

Great review, Maarten - snappy & pointed. The X-S10 seems to win on the big specs and even many lesser ones, but for me it falls down on some details. I don't actually mind the lack of an ISO dial, a shutter speed dial, and an exposure compensation dial. I don't mind the design of the body. In fact, I love the big grip - finally! The older battery is OK with me, as I have many of them. But I don't like the lack of the focus mode dial on the front of the camera, the relatively low-res LCD, the middling EVF with its short 17.5mm eyepoint (I wear glasses always), the restriction of the C1 to C4 custom modes to stills only, and (very picky now) the lack of screw threads for a decorative shutter button. But most annoying is that the front and rear control dials can't be customized to work the way all my other Fuji cameras work. This seems like a real misstep. At first I was pretty sure I'd pre-order the X-S10. Now I'm not so sure. In fact, I doubt it.

@@MaartenHeilbron Upon further study, I've decided to purchase an X-S10. I've watched and read a bunch of reviews, including yours, and I've studied the user manual. I did my usual written analysis of pros and cons. One of my biggest concerns was whether I could set up the camera to be ergonomically efficient and not too different from my other Fuji cameras. While I won't be able to use the front command dial for ISO as I do with other Fuji cameras, I can assign ISO to one of the rear buttons, which should suffice. Given the number of programmable buttons (plus the Fn dial), I believe I can set up the camera to work for me. In fact, I've already decided how to customize those controls! Although I made a sizable list of cons for the X-S10 (ranging from larger issues down to every little annoyance), none of them are fatal and the pros outweigh them. I need another camera like I need a hole in the head, but that's another story. I'm buying an X-S10.

Just a guess: the PASM dial is to make the camera more comfortable for customers switching from other brands. It's a negative for me. Also: No charger included makes the camera 40 or 50 dollars more expensive. Kind of like a lens with no lens hood. Finally: a dedicated, unmarked dial for film sims? Hate it. Unless I'm just playing around, I rarely change simulations whole shooting. Love the small size/big grip, though.

Yes, that's how Fujifilm reps describe it. As for the charger, I'm indifferent. How many more USB adapters do I need, especially as more and wall outlets and power bars have them. Marked dial for film sims? Which camera has that?

@@MaartenHeilbron I'm objecting to any dial for film sims. There are several more useful things that I'd like a dial for. Things that I actually use while I'm shooting.
