The full pixel readout definitely wins out here, even with the crop. The XT-2 is definitely impressive.

This was very helpful. I was surprised to see how much better the low light and video sharpeness was on the xt-2; I was not expecting them to be that much different.
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons7 жыл бұрын
Yes the XT2 does better because of the full pixel readout (not sure why Fuji decided to differentiate the two cameras with that to be honest).
@robm96737 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mathieu. I shoot 75% video vs 25% stills, I am close to making a purchase decision, between the Sony 6500, GH5, and Fuji. If I go with Fuji, based on your video, I believe I will get the XT-2 over the XT-20.

You guys are the dynamic duo of Mirrorless Reviewers - and your reviews keep getting better. I have three XT-2s that I use professionally, and it still shocks me how good they are (especially for photography). I sent my XT-20 back to B&H because as the video shows here it is no match for the XT-2 - and boy did I miss the joystick.

Charles Mann - Video wise, no match for the X-T2? You can't be serious? I could mix both cameras clips on a timeline, and you'd be guessing which is which. The 4k from both cameras is pretty much indiscernable. You make it sound like the difference is night and day, which it isn't.

Steve M. Watching the video and cropping in though I can definitely tell the x-t2 is sharper. But when I see the side by side videos compressed on my iPad I can't. Differences in sharpness are much more noticeable in person

Great comparison and exactly what I was looking for, trying to decide between these two great cameras. The X-T2 had noticeably better clarity when zoomed in, due to the oversampling and better ISO, though the X-T20 was not bad at all, and certainly usable. The X-T20 did have better handling of camera roll, though. I do love the touch and shoot for street photography and the touch to focus for video of the X-T20. I also feel that the great new cameras on smart phones like the iPhone X along with apps like Snapseed, Aviary and VSCO are making dedicated street cameras pretty much obsolete for the majority of shooters. Because of the recent launch of the X-T3, I'm looking for a good used X-T2 for the next year and may move to the X-T3 later on. In any case, they're all great cameras and you can't go wrong with any of them. Thanks again for the great video!

Can you make 1080p comparison? It would be interesting to see whether X-T20 is comparable to X-T2 in 1080p. Thanks for the 4K comparison, gr8 job!

I hope Fuji will add the no-crop 4K of the X-T20 to the X-T2 with a firmware update as an added recording option in the menu. When I use wide angle lenses on the X-T2 I would really like to shoot 4K without that 1.17x crop.
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons7 жыл бұрын
Yes that would be a nice addition.

I have already bought the Fuji X100F, but it has no 4k video which made me regretting . Now i do not want to sell the X100F, but to add either the XT-2 or XT-20 to my arsenal, which one should I choose,? I am considering that the Xt20 is around $400 cheaper and I would add Fuji Lens in the future ?

Would you mind adding either a link in the description or a clickable link in the video itself so as it would be easier the find (read) the article?
Great write-up! Really enjoyed it and you addressed two things that interested me the most about the XT-2 (rolling shutter on photos, af-on button size/placement), as I tend to shoot a lot of sports and haven't had the chance to try out the camera(s) in those conditions. For static things (street and landscape) I would jump the gun and buy a Fuji within a blink of an eye, but for (motor)sports I'm still not 100% sure. Maybe you can advise me in some direction? Thanks.

why is there such a big difference in sharpness/detail ? (xt2 being much more sharp which seems contradictory with the fact that xt2 has a crop meaning that less data from the sensor is used to produce the image)
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons7 жыл бұрын
The XT2 crops the sensor but uses all the pixel to produce a sharper 4K footage. The X-T20 uses the entire surface but not all the pixels (line skipping).
@amanieux7 жыл бұрын
wow i could not find this key information when looking at xt-2 specs, what other sub $1500 camera do you know of (other than a6300/a6500 and nx1) that does NOT do line skipping in 4k ? thanks
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons7 жыл бұрын
Many panasonic cameras like the G85, GX85 and GH4.
@amanieux7 жыл бұрын
i should reformulate my question : "what cameras does 4k without line skipping AND reads more data than 4k resolution" because all these 16mpix in 4:3 ratio sensor (gh4,gx85,g85) may not skip pixels but it does not improve 4k image quality because there is allmost no pixels to skip. downsampling to 4k only improves image quality if resolution of the sensor region you are reading without line/pixel skipping is bigger than 4k resolution (example nx1 downsamples 6.5k to 4k, xt2 downsamples 5.1k to 4k and the improvement is noticeable")

So the video from the xt20 is worst than a Panasonic G7 or G80 in terms of sharpness and detail?
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons7 жыл бұрын
I haven't compared them side by side but the Panasonic do perform full pixel readout so they should give you something more in terms of fine details.

@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons7 жыл бұрын
no the quality is the same.
@Raoh1st7 жыл бұрын
Thank you On the fuji charts, the XT2 has much higher bitrates in 1080p than the XT20, the codec is probably better.
@fianoanthonio7 жыл бұрын
Hi Mathieu, I am curious about this thing since you said the 1080 quality is the same. I checked the bitrate, the Fuji XT2 can record at 100 Mbps 1080p while XT20 only 37 Mbps. So Does it make any difference? I also would like to ask you about dynamic range for video. I have read that X-T2 has a wide DR which is good to play with in the post-processing the video later. I don't know if it is limited only to an external recorder. But do you think XT20 and XT2 are the same in terms of DR for internal video recording? I already have x100f but would love to have a better camera for video by fuji. Thanks a lot.
@MathieuGasquetMirrorLessons7 жыл бұрын
I didn't find any substantial differences despite the different bitrate but I didn't perform an in-depth test like with this 4K comparison. An higher bitrate is useful with very fast movements or other situations where a lower compression can create some artefacts but often it is difficult to spot the difference. That being said, an higher mbps is always welcome ;-) As for the DR, I think that the X-T2 and X-T20 are similar when it comes to internal recording but the X-T2 has the advantage of the F-log profile via HDMI but you need an external recorder.

On your website, this paragraph is a bit confusing: "Finally concerning the connections, the X-T2 has microphone and remote inputs, a USB 3.0 port and a Micro HDMI output. The X-T2 has a hybrid remote/mic input (2.5mm) and uses a micro USB 2.0 terminal instead." Shouldn't the second one be X-T20?
