@Alseki72 жыл бұрын
I recently bought an XH2S, effectively replacing my X-T3. I shoot photos rather than video, and especially wildlife. I would say that - coming from the X-T3 - the image stabilisation and battery life improvements are nice [though you would get these moving to the X-T4, which has now dropped in price for used]. The XH2S feels good in my hand, but is quite heavy and a bit bulky. A little more conspicuous if for street photography. But better balance with heavier lenses vs the X-T3 [e.g. the 16-55, 50-140]. The other main improvements are the rate of fire and file storage [full resolution 8 shots per second, and you can use this on a pretty much ongoing basis; the buffer will still not overflow], the reduced rolling shutter [i.e. you can use electronic shutter of moving objects without them distorting]. And finally the improved autofocus and object/eye detect, though with the con that bird eye detect is more hit-and-miss than the advertising and pre-release speal suggested. It comes down to your usage needs and where you are coming from. I'm happy with mine, but if I had paid £2.5k coming from an X-T4, or if I wasn't especially shooting wildlife, then I would have seen less improvements and probably not felt it was worth the extra. {There was once a time when I would have been looking forward to the newer 40mp sensor model cameras, but I've increasingly found that very few lenses allow for a cameras full sensor resolution to be relevent. And even if they do, post-edit/post-crop, whatever final image you get, you're still basically only going to see it as something similar to a 4k image, at best}
@tomleo46702 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your insightful comment! May I ask which lens you mainly use for wildlife? The new 150-600? I do some wildlife too, but get a lot hit and miss with my X-T3 and the 100-400, especially with flying birds.. (for sure one reason is the guy behind the camera 😀, but still curious to hear your experience of lens combo..
@Alseki72 жыл бұрын
@@tomleo4670 I was using the 100-400 (and sometimes the 50-140) though sold the 100-400 when i was buying the 150-600 [they're both quite large and heavy as well as the price, so couldn't really justify having both]. I haven't uploaded many of my photos yet from when I had the 100-400, though you can see some of my recent 150-600 ones on flickr (google Fujifilm XF 150-600mm F5.6-8 flickr group and user Sam is me). Birds in flight always has some miss rate, and I can't say I'm an expert. Though I would say the 150-600 edges in having only one lens, as you can really reach out for close ups more [especially more static or predictable shots]. The longer the focal length, the more unweildy it becomes in terms of tracking [or in some cases the more the atmospheric distortion]. Some of my favourite flight shots have been taken more at the shorter end of the focal length, as its easier to track. A sharp lens really helps in terms of then being able to crop in for the final comp. Being well positioned re: light and bird availability, potentially using bait, and persistence (+ good camera settings) add up to eventual successful sessions.

I have both 100-400mm and 150-600mm with my x-t4 now. The 150-600mm has, so far, created much less CA than the 100-400mm, especially when shooting the white birds. Focusing with the 150-600mm seemed faster, too.
@gilleslast35612 жыл бұрын
Hi Roman, I totally agree with your comments, let me add some of mines.I recently bought the 150-600 to replace my 100-400, it’s really sharper and faster to focus. Until now I’m using it with my XT3. I borrowed the XH2S for a big week and I can say that I’m convinced with it even if I thought I couldn’t live with the loss of all the dials. The C1-C7 is a game changer for me, I configured each one for the situations like reportage/street/wild life/macro. I doubled some to switch between AF-S or AF-C on the fly.One nice surprise if that the pictures made with the XH2S are really much more dynamic, it’s really noticeable for wildlife in my case. The AF is a big step forward for Fuji, I don’t care about what other brands offer as I’m 100% Fuji lens equipped. Now I’m waiting for the XH2 and it’s high resolution, apparently the 150-600 is ready for the 40Mpx sensor. Let’s see…

XH2 is def geared towards the working professional given it’s the flagship, Fuji was smart on that side to attract other non Fuji users but alienated us Fuji shooters that love the looks of the cameras themselves. I have an XH1 & XT4 combo for work right now and I’m so bummed they changed the look and feel of the XH body. I’m a bigger guy so my hands wrap around better on the XH body and ergonomics just feel better for me, I loved that it had all the same dials essentially as the XT line. I tried x100v and xt4 coming from Olympus, and I was not used to the number of out of focus images Fujifilm produced. I went back to Olympus, and added gfx50s2 for a specific ongoing project. If consistent autofocus is important to you, I'd say a new generation of Fujifilm seems to be a worthwhile improvement. Especially if you shoot portraits, trustworthy face/eye detect is a modern miracle. But if you prefer xt4 interface, you have to wait a month or two.

As a X-H2s owner I do agree it is not for everyone. Most people should research a camera BEFORE they purchase it. So many people had purchased the camera and returned it because they did not research nor took the time to learn the camera. Coming from also a Canon R5 the PASM dials does not bother me at all. I actually prefer grabbing this camera size wise over my Canon R5 for hybrid purposes. As far as the weight (preference) I honestly do not see the weight difference over the X-T4 which I am currently selling now. For some photography users the autofocus is the upgrade itself just as the same of the EOSR vs the EOSR6. Now I did shoot a wedding and I had several times pushed the record button instead of the ISO which had drove me crazy. If you are used to the dials at the top for your workflow I would wait for another model. This is a fair review without trashing the camera. Is this an incredible camera...yes!!! Is it for everyone...no! :)

Good point about ergonomics. I have big hands and the X-T3 never felt quite right holding it until I bought a third party grip for it. Which made it handle better, but heavier. I walked into a camera shop and went for a Fuji based on how it felt in my hand and how it looked. Fuji's feel and look like quality gear so I haven't put on down since 2013. This X-H2s is no exception. Most people just don't get who it's for. It breaks most Fuji user's brains with the top knobs missing. Great video bro! Coming from the xt3 to the h2s faster autofocus is the main reason I changed, but for 80% of my work the xt3 is more than enough. Situations like sports or wildlife are the main situations where (I think) you need to switch ISO so quickly that you don’t have 2-3 seconds to use the ISO button; in my case auto ISO do the job and I can play with the exposition mode with the dial. For quieter situations, I don’t mind using the ISO button.

@@esc.33 I have had the xh2s for almost a year and recently bought the xh2 as the xt3 is dying. If the light is good and the it's easy to detect the main subject, the xt3 does a fantastic job. The autofocus is much better, and now I am even using the 35mm 1.4 old lens which I was only using for photography in the past as it would have serious issues with autofocus, but with the new cameras it does alright.

Yes Roman - Fuji lost me on this one. I have two systems - X-T3 and Nikon Z6ii. My Nikon is smaller and lighter than the H2, and it's FF. I've always been happy with my X-T3 and it's still a marvelous camera. I would never waste money on the H2 - in Australia, body only is over 4K - ridiculous. I kind of shot myself in the foot though by getting the Nikon Z6ii. The images are far superior than those from my Fuji. When I shoot events now, I can see the big difference between images from the two cameras. Especially if it is lower light and higher ISO. The images from the Nikon are better at ISO 4000 than the Fuji on ISO 1600. Photography gear is so wretchedly expensive in Australia. I'm trying to see how I can fund another Z6ii body and their Z24mm 1.8 lens. That will give my my two FF bodies, each with a lens attached, for my paid events work. I'll still keep the X-T3 with the marvelous 16mm 1.4, for my personal stuff. However, for paid work, FF really is the way to go!

It’s a nice cam but I‘m happy with my XT2, it’s still amazing. I only have the XF23 F2 and a Telezoom (55-200). I really miss a prime for doing Portrait Photography. I don’t do it professional, I just take portraits of friends, my girlfriend and sometimes dogs. I‘m thinking about the 50mm F2, is there somebody who can recommend a great and not too expensive portrait lense? Greetings from Germany

What about the problem with automatic exposure changes when you zoom in / out with the XH2-S?

Great first impressions video🙂Shame Fuji doesn't use that shutter button in X-T series ,and instead they use that stupid threaded one that breaks easily(had to replace it in both X-T2 and X-T3, and I dont use "soft releases"), and can't be pressed as smoothly as the big nice button from X-H series.

Well done Roman - genuinely useful appraisal of the XH2S 👏👏👏 I just watched a FStoppers video that was explaining how the influencers are influenced to give positive reviews. This video is the opposite of the general gear review. Personally Im a Nikon hybrid shooter, its not because I'm a fan, its just because I made a sales decision over 10 years ago. So I'll buy a Nikon camera if its going to help me get paid.

Hello from Uruguay ! Have you tried, just by chance the xt4 with the newer 150/600, I want to get that lens, but as I live far away, I have to pay high taxes. If you can give me and advice I would really appreciate it. And as I Love my dials, I won't be changing my xt 4 , for the time being hehe, thank you in advance, I will really appreciate your recommendation. I photograph a lot of birds, I know I will suffer with the f 8 but----- there is no other choice for now! Best regards and wishes!

LOL...we loved your comment about anyonr who thinks they can give an in depth review after a short time with a camera "is on crack". Too funny. Good first impressions review. We've been looking at the X-H2s and X-H2...I still prefer the X-T4 and will keep that (its still/video switch should be on every hybrid camera), but my spouse is leaning toward the X-H2 (keeping the H1 as the backup camera). Personally, my smaller hands find the XH grip too big (whereas the smaller X-S10 grip is perfect). Ergonomics are so personal, plus as you noted specs aren't the whole story. Are they the specs you need and will use? Am really enjoying your travel photos...a bit envious, actually. 😃

I was looking for a video talking about the ergonomics of this camera compared to a x-t5 or x-t4 and finally I found your video with a side to side comparison of the bodies! 👌 I don't have a camera shop I can see and touch the cameras so this video is great for me. I was worried about what you said that feels chunky and like every other full frame dlsr that doesn't make you grab it to take photos as easy as an x-T line camera. Maybe It's good for professional photographers but for me It's just a hobby and I want something light for travel photo and fun to play with it.

Don’t take everything for granted your view on KZbin, I was drawn towards the XT concept until I went to a shop I happend not to like the grip at all. I have small hands too. But the XHseries did fit like a glove.

Have you had any issues with the X-T4 freezing so you have to take the battery out since the last few firmware updates?

Awesome review man. I’m Super pumped about the XH2 (40mp one), but a little bummed at the same time about the Front/Rear Dial settings. Looking for them to add the ability to add ISO to one of the command dials like the previous cameras via firmware update. Being limited to Aperture and SS doesn’t make much since, given that all native lenses (as far as I know of) have aperture rings. That level of customization really set us apart from other companies. But with this, it makes me feel like we’re heading towards an overly digital set up that takes away from some of what made Fuji so special and different. To me, I think this is the main issue that makes it like a sony lol. Can’t stand it. I think the ISO button is a great addition, as long as our options aren’t taken away. That flexibility with the dials is more suitable for fast paced shooting in my opinion. My set up was Right Index on Front Dial (SS), Thumb on Back Dial (ISO), Left Hand under lens for Aperture - it was so intuitive and fluid as opposed to having to press a button and change the ISO on screen. Too many steps involved just to change ISO. Would love for this to be worked out so I don’t have to choose the xt5 over it lol.

Hi, nice video as usual. What do you think about the 3.0 firmware upgrade? Since I got it, most of my pics are 2 stops underexposed! I noticed there is a huge discrepancy in the way the camera judges how to choose the iso (I m using manual mode with auto iso) while the back botton is pushed in autofocus continuous. For example, if I half press the shutter and the suggested iso is 800, as soon as I press the back botton for focusing, when I press again the shutter the iso drops to 200! I m basically trashing most of the pics taken, cause although I shoot raw, 2 stops underexposed is too much! Thanks!

Is the xt4 really getting an autofocus update?!! I thought it was impossible given the stacked sensor and new process engine that allow a faster smarter processing I kinda made my peace with the focus on the xt4 I kinda doubt it it will get the update This actually make me wanna hold on to it if this is true

The XT4 update will only be the best improvements the sensor and processor can handle without pumping the battery
@nightowlnzab2 жыл бұрын
I'd be very surprised if we got any significant update for the XT4 - it's been out for 2+ years and only received very minor tweaks and fixes in it's life - I think they squeezed the last drops out of that sensor/processor, and are now moving along. All focus will now be on the XH2 (high res model) due to be announced next week, which will likely indicate what the XT5 might be based upon.

It is not for everyone and I 100% agree with that. It's a nice video camera, but speaking strictly about still photography I can't see why would anyone get XH2S over the X-T4, or even the older X-trans IV and even III cameras.
@robmcd2 жыл бұрын
👋 I bought it for photography. I have an XT4 and a Canon R5. I wanted the autofocus and better EVF. Because the EVF on the GFX100S is the same as the XT4 I wasn’t confident the XT5 would have it. I was also told by Fuji that the XT5 won’t be flagship level. This camera is literally a mini Z9 and that’s how it should be seen.
@philipcooper82972 жыл бұрын
@@robmcd My point was, when you compare all those cameras, you don't really pay for better still photography image quality. All the X-trans III and IV have the same still photography image quality output and I'm yet to be convinced the X-trans V does anything better, apart from higher burst rate.
@nightowlnzab2 жыл бұрын
The XH2S is all about speed - those that really need/want the stacked sensor and CFexpress card speed (and the improved AF capability). For everyone else shopping the top of Fuji's lineup, next week we'll learn about the XH2 (non stacked, high resolution model) for those that want that deeper grip and PASM control (and most likely more affordable price tag). That will then indicate for those who want traditional dials - what the XT5 will be like next year.

could also wait for the H2 that is coming in a week or so as well. 6k is too much and feels like xt4 hits that sweet spot. I do wonder what is the comparison with high ISO for video hearing that the XT4 has the duo native iso at 2000 while the H2S doesnt have it but is still an advanced camera with a new "better" sensor xt5 also a camera worth waiting (hoping for unlimited recording and dont want to pay for 6k that I wont use anyways)

Thanks for this very informative review! I am an owner of an X-T3, but soon I'll need to repair it, so I am looking for a second (Fuji) body. My work is about 66% video, 33% photography. I love using the dials, both for work and private. Would you advise me to go for the X-H2S, the X-T4 of even another X-T3? The X-H2S would be the biggest leap forward, for both video quality (there is something even more cinematic about the footage) and IBIS, but would have the downside of the less traditional body. The X-T4 would be an upgraded X-T3 with IBIS, but costs a lot more than its predecessor for the same image quality. Would would you advise me?
@professionalpotato47642 жыл бұрын
If you're ok with manual focusing, I'd say another X-T3 (maybe even used) is a better bargain. The IBIS isn't great for video on the X-T4 and I prefer to turn it off. It has ruined a few clips for me. I stabilise my footage by having a bit more weight from rigging and/or neck strap etc. The X-T4 also lacks an earphone jack for audio monitoring so you'll need an annoying dongle, or battery grip (which makes it not friendly for gimbal work). The removable port door is also on the wrong side (idk which drunk engineer decided people needed open access to SD cards). The XH2S seems to have less sharpening going on internally, from what Camera Conspiracies showed. Which is a good thing I guess.
@BTMovieSecondChannel2 жыл бұрын
@@professionalpotato4764 Yes there’s something beautiful to the X-H2S’ footage! A kind of ‘creamy’, rich look. And I rely on autofocus pretty much, but the X-T3 is perfect for me for 75% of the time for video work. But for more demanding situations, for example (photography) portraits of people walking, I would like a better autofocus. But the X-T3 is the same as the X-T4 with the firmware update, if I’m correct. I also rented the X-T4 twice for a wedding, so I had time to play with it. I like the slightly bigger body, the sharper screen and I like that it stabilizes my 90mm quite well. The battery also lasts quite longer. I did not like the flip screen for photography, it’s more work to use it and goes against my muscle memory. The IBIS is not perfect and sometimes jerky, so the difference is mainly in the bigger body and larger battery. I think the X-H2S would be more of an upgrade.
@professionalpotato47642 жыл бұрын
@@BTMovieSecondChannel Ah, yeah I think if you need to shoot walking portraits especially at f/1.4 or f/2, neither the XT3 nor 4 will fit the job. My XT4 struggles with AF and I have to use the smallest single point AF to get tack sharp images. Idm flip screens as it provides versatile angles, but it's not great for video especially when operating. Kinda wish the XH2S used the GH6 design.
@BTMovieSecondChannel2 жыл бұрын
@@professionalpotato4764 ah yeah. I think I will rent the X-H2S for one day to see how it feels and handles! I already hold one in a camera store, the grip is nothing short of a perfect fit for my hands

Fair and balanced initial impressions. I, too, am heavily invested in Fuji and once I saw the price tag, layout, and PSAM dial, I opted for the A7iv. Zero regrets. In fact, I probably should have done it sooner. I still love Fuji for stills, but for video, Sony is sooooo much better - and, most importantly, priced the same!!! The X-T5 will sell well if equipped with similar features, but from everything I am seeing, they are going to make the X-T line more consumer oriented, which is such a shame.
