One of the things I admire about Zendaya is how she's able to manage her anxiety. I notice she gets nervous and has anxiety in situations and interviews like these but she still seems to be so strong and doesn't let the anxiety stop her. As someone who has anxiety I difinitely would freeze on the spot and have an anxiety attack or all together just not join the zoom call, lmao, but I admire how Zendaya stays so strong throughout everything. It also inspires me to challenge my introvertness and anxiety as well. She's my biggest role model no joke.

For all of you talking about how nervous Zendaya is.. go watch the round table from August 2020 with Jeniffer Anniston and Reese Witherspoon. THAT was actually a conversation where all of the women were engaged and responding to each other. Unlike this interview where the moderator fired off questions without giving the women a chance to respond to each other. It definitely sets a sort of formal tone rather than the warm, welcoming environment that I saw in the August Round Table that would put people with anxiety (like Zendaya) at ease. Just an observation.

FYI, when Glenn Close shut down Zendaya speaking of how acting is also a business... Glenn Close was born to wealthy and influential parents. Zendaya was born to a school teacher. All of Glenn Close's answers were dripping with the sort of condescension that a life of unexamined privellege affords.

It's easy to say weird things sometimes, and that comment was a bit weird. This was weirdly cold and impersonal. There was very little interaction between the actresses, which I believe is the main draw of this series. Also a somewhat lighter tone would’ve been appreciated, while still addressing some of the pressing social issues and craft details they were asked about. When the brain surgeon makes a slight mistake, people die or are disabled forever. When an actor makes a mistake, they don't get the role or they get a bad review. Glenn really needs some damn perspective. Anyone can study acting at any age, get better and maybe even book some small roles. Someone with resources (like a freaking Neurosurgeon...)has an even better shot because they can drop everything and do the work without having to worry about finances. He wasn't saying, "How do I become Anthony Hopkins in a month?"
@monikavec3 жыл бұрын
I get your point but also, I think that's not what prompted her strong reaction. He said specifically that he's depressed as a surgeon which sounds like he wanted to do something lighter and simpler. But although incomparable, it is not a simple work. Just because there aren't literal lives on the line in my job as a teacher, it doesn't mean it's not exhausting and challenging ... so I really don't think she was the one comparing their jobs but he was.

@@monikavec yes I do agree to what you said. And maybe she seemed outraged because of how the surgeon said it when it happened. Something we will never know. From the way I see it, it seemed like the surgeon was the one looking down on actors, as if it is a work that is not that distressing. It is ironic seeing how glenn and kate get hate by random people who don't know them for sharing a story or their opinion about something. Being an actor isn't as easy as people may think, this is what they were saying and it answers the interviewer's question. That's it.

I do not understand how Glenn Close can be offended by that brain surgeon. He was coming from a vulnerable place. He’s miserable, he wants to switch jobs, he thinks maybe acting would be more of a fun-fulfilling path. Because it IS creative and beautiful and probably cathartic to perform, so of course? So many ordinary people daydream of an actor’s life. And if you live in LA, it’s really not that far fetched. Anyway, ppl can be actors and love acting without being high caliber THR Roundtable-level actors.

Completely agree. Also her statement that only trained actors could ever do theatre - snobby and reductive. What's her definition of "trained"? Tertiary, 3+ years study? Repertory? Short courses? Year-long weekend courses?

Zendaya - you shine in this interview! Your advice about paying attention to and learning the business aspect is "right on!". I used to be a huge Glenn Close fan, heck I'm 47 years old, she was a breakthrough feminist artist... but, she lost all my respect in how she blew off your advice to pay attention to the business aspect. 5:25 Glenn Close why? Didn't you have the same energy for your only child and daughter Annie Starke Who like the brain surgeon was "untrained" and wanted to be become an actor. So I guess it's completely Ok for Glenn's daughter Annie to work in the theater and film & television "untrained".. Has 6 credits which 4 of them are starring along side Mummy Glenn Close. But Glenn is laughing at a fully qualified brain surgeon who has an aspiration! To be an actor! talking about, it takes training and it's a "craft" the nepotism & privilege of this woman. The elitism of Glenn Close. And Kate Winslet talking about how it's not for everyone and its hard work but her own daughter Mia Threapleton also an "untrained actor" has just entered the industry how easy and nice for Mia. I think it's only hard work Kate Winslet for those "trained and untrained" actors with no connections to an industry they aspire to be a part off.
