I really wish Australia would buy some of them Gripen, I think they are great and we definitely have room in our Airforce for its capabilities …..and the instructions in the “flat packs” are amazingly simple.

I have seen lots of airshows with Gripen and this is one of the worst(best) performance I have seen. The insane left turn and after the tunnelroll how Gripens incredible turncapacity is shown. It is obviously in airshows that they’re not show the Gripens full capacity. And that is one of the reason of the success in the Red Flag together with it’s outstanding wf capacity. And this is the C-version of Gripen. Thumbs up for the South African pilot.

Anyone notice the fuel dump at @0:12? What is this? I believe it has something to do with purging the fuel tank after flying in high G or inverted?

Isn't fuel dumping something you do just to reduce weight before landing? I don't understand why the pilot did that either

@@craigeekhout19 I have a relative who was in the air force and he witnessed both Grippen and F16 when they where considering both planes. He said they officially concluded the F16 had cheaper maintenance, longer radar range and superior tactic computing power. This was around '98. This was with the first gen grippen, tho. I think they opted for the F16 for political reasons not for technical or economic superiority. In the end they bought some second hand cheap planes which need constant and expensive upgrades.

SAAF is a short for South African Air Force, They fly Saab 39 Gripens. The South African flag can be seen on the vertical stabilizer.
