I highly recommend Roger's falsetto from the beginning to be used as alarm clock. I've never overslept thanks to his high notes 😂

What did they do to Freddie? They took the color from his wings. He cannot run and cannot hide. Mother Mercury help him.

Good comment! Maybe it refers to his boarding school years. "Look what they have done to me". Maybe no one believed him and he was called a "Liar" about things that happend to him in this school. I read in a book about Freddie, always begging his mother not to send him back after holiday. But no chance... and he could not run away or hide. He was a little boy. I always thought, Freddie shared parts of his life with us in his lyrics. To quote Freddie: "When you can see it, then it's there darlings"

My Fairy King is in my top four Queen songs. I’m so excited you’re reacting to it. I have been binge listening to this song for awhile now! Amazing writing ✍️ Brian commented this was the first song that they noticed the piano skills that Freddie possessed. 🎹🎹 It’s also the song that Freddie made it clear his last name would be legally changed to Mercury!! My fav lyrics are “Someone, someone has drained the color from my wings .. Broken my fairy circle ring .. And shamed the king in all his pride .. Changed the winds & wronged the tides.. Mother Mercury”

They were just very poor kids when they made this. Just stealing some studio time at night. Miraculous.

Great reaction! My Fairy King is one of my favourite Queen songs, it is really the first big epic song Freddie Mercury wrote. I would say it is connected to The Great King Rat. During The Great King Rat, they are trying smear his reputation, there is a lot of propaganda against The Great King Rat. The Fairy King takes over, on papier he looks like the perfect king, but he is vain. Under his leadership the kingdom falls. Everything is forever changed and things will never be the same. Queen worked really hard on their harmonies. Freddie and Roger often sang the high harmonies together, they especially used Roger's falsetto in the first half of the 70's. Freddie and Roger had different sounding falsettos, Freddie's falsetto sounded very close to his own voice, whilst Roger had that loud, bright and resonant falsetto. Brain often sang harmonies in the middle. Freddie also often mostly did the lower harmonies as well, his voice sounded the best on low notes, sometimes Brian also did lower harmonies.

No band took the chances Queen did with their music, especially in the early days, totally unique in every way.

They were very experimental in the early days, so much so that one critic remarked on their excellent use of "synthesizers", which promted them to add the note "No synthesizers were used on this record" on their later albums, at least until they actually started using them. Until then, all synthesizer like sounds were done with effects, guitars and tape manipulation.

Loving this journey! Been so long (so... long...) since I first heard these songs, it's wonderful to be reminded of how much they can blow a mind on first hearing! Queen were truly masterful at the idea that music is like a liquid which flows and follows the contours of the ground. The songs themselves are a very rich mix of feelings and expressions, to which the music adds layers and sweeps around the stories, beautifully following the contours like water! Liar is coming next, all I'll say is... Be ready.

That's Freddie doing lead vocals except for Roger's falsetto input. Roger, Brian and Freddie participate in the harmonies.

Yes, a lot of layers! But you have to know, that the "Red Special" - the guitar Brian created together with his Dad, who was an electro engineer - can do those multi-layers live (!) as well without using an additional effect-driver! :-)

1:16. Sounds just like Beatles from day in the Life when they say. I’d like to turn you on. Right? Freddie plays the piano for the first time. They found his secret talent.
