Hopefully this helps anyone looking to get the most out of these little gems. Remember- taking things apart is the easy part, it's the whole putting them back together that really gets you 😂

"If you guys don't know how to take out the ribbon, you probably shouldn't be taking apart a typewriter." Words of wisdom if there ever were! You should slap that on a coffee mug or a t-shirt.

You saved me man. Much appreciated. I am switching cases between two of these portables, and as I was disassembling and cleaning, those two little dog legs that hold the type bar tray dropped out. I hadn't noticed them - one dropped out while I was doing it - the other dropped out a couple days later when I was cleaning everything. I didn't know what they were. Asked a couple people and they didn't either. At about the 23 minute mark you clearly show these two pieces and I really appreciate that. I guess I would have maybe figured it out when I went to put things back together but man do I feel good having seen this. Thank you again - super great video.

Remington 5 ST has the same paper pan set-up. Those pins are tricky to get at but it’s the only way to get at the feed rollers. Thanks for showing the process, it’s helpful to see how it’s actually done

Note that on my 5 streamline, there is a shim on the right side of the platen. So watch for that whenever you take a platen off. Been looking for instructions to get the paper tray and feed rollers off. This is the only video I have found that gives the straight forward instructions. Thanks for posting this! (Not my #5 also has a tab on each end of the rear feed rollers. The one knurled side will have to be bent away in order to take the pin out. It's also one long rod, not two independent sets. Fun!) 26:30 You can see some faint marks behind the type rest that are from the type bars hitting the platter (or whatever you want to call it.) So that felt is actually done and should either be replaced or at least flipped over so that doesn't get worse. I believe phxtypewriter posted a video where he showed one that was bad enough that the type bars actually sounded against that as they returned to rest.
