You got it! I worked years with Camcorders. But now days apparently all the KZbin guys switched to DLRS. So I tried, too. Yes, the quality is fine ... but! Wanna get nice audio on your DSLR= so you have to use an external mike. Wanna get Zoom? Ok, switch the lens. To sum it up: you are configuring your DSLR all the time to technical issues your Camcorder has already on board. In my eyes just use DSLRs only for the little few shots where you wanna have some DOF. By the way: Has anybody noticed some Codec issues with the A6400? Do the test: A dark room, switch the light on and watch compression particles in the picture. Never was an issue on a Camcorder!

I was using mirrorless for recording 30+ minute vids (w/2 cams) and just got so tired of having to treat the shoot like a cinema set up when all I needed was a sharp, in focus shot that lasted for 35-40 minutes without needing to worry about it. I watched one of your vids, reminding me that old school camcorders DO IT GREAT! So I got an AX33 and forgot about it! Now I have a single file and my work flow is so much easier. BTW - loved your recent comment about YT requirements and if you can just get the lighting right, you've got the battle won, even with a less expensive camera. No hassle, no headaches, I found that my stress level drops dramatically when I am using Camcorders as opposed to DSLR Cams. The next best alternative is your smartphone (I don't use them) DSLR are good but in every situation, you need to prepare them well in advance, and if you're outside and the weather changes you will need to reset everything, with Camcorders they simply adapt to the changes on the fly. I love my camcorder, they are amazing, I still have my 25 year old Sony Handycams and I am still using them to this day

I looked at the Sony AX700 recently when I needed to upgrade to a 4K camcorder. It's got great specs but sadly its maximum framerate at 4K is just 30FPS. I shoot a lot of video which has rapid movement, regular pans and such. 30FPS either looks like mud (if you use 180 degree shutter) or becomes very staccato (strobey) if you run the higher shutter speed needed to do effective stabilization in post. I settled on the Panasonic HC-X1500 (which will do 60FPS at 4K) and I'm more than happy with it. If I was making movies I'd opt for the AX700 but I'm not so the Panasonic is better suited to *my* needs. Note that I didn't even consider a mirrorless camera for the upgrade to 4K for all the reasons you mentioned as to why camcorders are superior in some cases :-)

That moment when you rely on equipment so much you need better camera to automate even more shit to make acceptable results, LOL
@SMGJohn3 жыл бұрын
@@BoothTheGrey Actually if its professionals we talk about you have deceivable image of them, if we talk TV and journalists, they just use whatever they have at hand, its too expensive to keep buying new equipment every 10 years, so they often use stuff thats several years old, I have worked in TV news station that broadcasts in 4k, and we had to use cameras from 15 years ago shooting in 1080i with miniDV cassettes. Also scientists will never use cameras with automatic settings LOL, they will need to be able to reproduce whatever they are documenting, so the settings has to be manual with a camera that produces the LEAST amount of variables, consumer tech wont do that for you, thats why scientific equipment is made. Cameras that you usually plug into computers. You are essentially just defending blind folded consumerism, you do not need 4k or 180 fps in a camera if you gonna film a few kids running around kicking a ball in the field. You do not need 4k to become successful on KZbin, specifications, wont make you win any awards here, you honestly think Hollywood cares about specs? LOL Its always whats behind the camera, that matters. A lot of those award winning nature documentaries from BBC, were shoot on telelenses, macro lenses and a 1000 dollar camera which did not film in 4k. Shooting in flat profiles or RAW video, yeah its good if you do work that needs it, but your KZbin video or family video, does not give a flying shit about that, people today, have no patience, no time, its all gotta happen NOW, thats why, YOU want to buy expensive camera, so you wont have to learn how to expose correctly. This is why we have so many car accidents, because people are too stupid and lazy to learn how to drive properly, they are impatient, and impatience leads to early death.
@SMGJohn3 жыл бұрын
@Tony McGurk Exactly, its as you say, people cannot really tell what camera is used, they care only that the image is clear enough and lighting is good and that the audio is top notch, otherwise it might as well be shot on a 50 bucks 1080i DV camcorder from 2007. It is ironic to me that some of the most successful KZbinrs use subpar equipment that cost less than 1000 dollars. Its always the content that matters the most, and Hollywood actually do not use as expensive cameras as people think they do, there is a lot of cheap 500 dollar cameras used as B-camera (secondary cameras) to film stuff in which their large cinema cameras cannot fit, and I am pretty sure very few notices when they use clips filmed by such cheap cameras, they literally used GoPro cameras during production of latest Marvel movies LOL. It is a shame, we live in a world were no one has patience anymore, its all gotta happen now or never.

Great video. Usually I reach for my "bridge camera", the Panasonic Lumix FZ300 for the same reasons that the camcorders work so well. It has a fast Leica lens with a lot of zoom paired with a small sensor. It works great as a travel camera too... with one exception, which is probably why you don't have it... it's pretty large. It's a great camera though. Even though I have a lot of "better" cameras, the FZ300 is the most fun (and easy) to use.

Was able to score a used but practically brand new Sony CX900 for $200 last May 2020 and I think this was one of my best purchases bang for buck. Such a great compliment to my Sony a7iii for video projects that need long recording. I can stream with it, use it as another angle, the picture quality matches my Sonys and I can shoot really really really long (6 hours on one charge!) with an extended battery I bought. It only does 1080p at 60fps but for I deliver at 1080p anyway for my long-form projects, and the picture scales up to 4K nicely too!

All we really need to see is examples of the products and their results and you give that without too much yawning through techy talk. Thanks again.

Fun to watch, I decided to get a new camera to replace my 4 year old Sony FDR AX53 because at that age after a lot of use it's entitled to start playing up. After a lot of research it became a toss up between the AX53 or the AX700, for shear simplicity and reliability I bought another AX53 for many of the reasons you mention in your video, just point and shoot with no worries.

WOW, I am so glad that I found your channel! The detailed information that you put into each camera and camcorder really help me a lot to decide for my purchasing. I have checked few channels on KZbin with the same topic and I stuck on your channel mainly because your videos are all covered with my interest such as cameras, camcorders, and lightings. Thanks for sharing. I almost watch all of your videos. It took me hours. The only wish that I have is that, I wish you mention on your video which camera and camcorder that can be mounted on a tripod.

this is brilliant stuff, I loved your army analogy, its one I make very often when I am weighing up camera gear. Keep it up, and thank you.

hey @MarkusPix: "Freitag ist Freu-Tag, Freitag ist Fix-und-Foxi Tag": I can see you got a few issues of that cartoon there ;) @10:39 and @11:42. I just remember the old German TV commercials from the 70s, never bought the actual cartoons though. Just brings back some memories regardless ;) Also, you sure haven't got "Omas Haus" but your very own there -- gute Arbeit, mein Herr...!!

I am old school...I grew up on camcorders. Markus’ camcorder review got me back into camcorders. I wanted a very easy light weight camcorder to take on my FA ✈️ over night lay over trips and last week, I bought a Sony 405 an open box $181 and I am soo loving it, but I saw a You Tube video on a light weight Panasonic and the color looked better than the Sony, so I came back to this video to see which, Panasonic camcorder to pick up.

Thanks for the video. My AX700 is my goto camera for those moments when you just need to press REC. It has never let me down and the IQ is insanely good. i have shot b-roll and A-Cam with this little beast on large corporate jobs where we needed a smaller form factor than using our PXW-FS7 and it just produces quality results every time. If I had to complain about one thing it would be its not wide enough in focal length. A little wider and its get 10/10. Cheers from Australia. Oh my youtube channel I use is not my Pro channel....its just my walk around have fun channel. Its boring but pre-covid I would document my travels with a gopro for some quirky fun. Cya

I totally concur with you Markus. I started my small channel on KZbin with a Panasonic Camcorder. What made me change with a mirrorless (G9 and GX800) was for the interchangeable lenses. But still if I need to give the camera to a third person I prefer to give the camcorder because it is so easy!

I have a DSLR, i never used it on a whim for video. My instant reflex for video is my phone, my instant reflex for pictures is my camera. I never shot with a camcorder though.. I blame smart phones for that. Great vid as always!
